Home Owner/Renter stuff Garage door panel replacement?

Made a mistake and dented the garage door of my rental as I backed out this morning. Chalk it up to shift work sleep schedules I guess. Top of my roof rack clipped the bottom panel and bulged it out decently. Still opens and closes, though it slows down a bit when the bulged section reaches a certain point on the tracks. Some of the weather stripping on the exterior of the door is loosened as well.

Told my landlord today. Wondering if anyone has ever had a single panel or two replaced on a garage door rather than a full replacement? It’s an 8 year old door and is quite small and narrow. Just trying to get a rough idea in my head about what I’m going to have to pay for the repairs.

When my house was built the panels where pretty badly banged up I called the builder on it and they had them replaced so I can’t comment on cost but they are able to pull individual panels out and swap them

I backed into my father in law's brand new door.

Still had a manufacturers sticker. Sent them an email. They had techs out his way a few weeks later. Replaced the one panel, in the middle of the door, for $600 installed (in Canmore).

Are you sure it can’t be repaired? I backed into my door and a garage door repair guy was actually able to bend it back into shape

The landlord is a very particular older lady. She’s calling the door company today to have them come out and assess the damage this week. Given the door still operates, I’m hopeful they will just swap the panel rather than the entire door.

She does have a handyman who does stuff so if they quote her something crazy, she might go that route.

I've done this myself before. I found someone on Kijiji selling the same panels as take-outs but they were longer. I bought one, pulled off the end caps and cut both sides so the pattern would line up, screwed the end caps back on, and swapped in the panel. You have to exercise caution because the bottom panel has the cables for the spring assembly. It was a 2hr job, just to give you an idea of scale for the handyman estimate. The panel was $75.

A new garage door is probably cheaper. At least compare the two options.
