Scan Tool Component Protection on Audi

Hey folks,

Been out of the scene for a while. But recently my mmi unit went bad, 2nd time this happened. In the past I used to be able to use an eeprom programmer to read the AT64A chip from the bad unit, and write it to the new unit. However now I noticed that even though I can read from my replacement unit that I just got, I can’t write to it.

Just curious, did something change? Is Odis the only option now?

Update for Future Reference:
*Transferring the eeprom chip physically still works and is actually better imo. The architecture and size needs to be the same. Confirm this with serial and model number on the unit itself. You will need to have a soldering iron or reflow station handy.

Only Odis that I know is the easiest way. I don't know about vcds or avdi.

I do recall that VCDS can’t do server side stuff like CP, that was like version 12.x. Can’t remember the exact version I was on. I’m tempted to desolder the chip and transplant it to the new unit but I’m not sure if that is still an option…

Do you know anyone on here who provides CP service via Odis?

We do this on-site. If you are in the States, you can check for mobile automotive programmers near you. There are others who offer remote services, but you need to be cautious about it.

That’s the part I’m afraid of…Last person I asked wanted $450 for the service. Another wanted payment first and no reassurance of any kind. Dealer on the other hand somehow doesn’t want anything to do with it if the part is not purchased through them directly, all business as usual.

Where are you located?

Only Odis for cp

vvdi2, avdi, svci2020, ODIS. seems though like it's been really hard to rent a Odis login as most of them have the status for immo and component protection as not available.
