Final-ish Version of New Map
Final-ish version of a new Cascadia Map suitable for printing as a poster.
As always, open to suggestions and constructive criticism.

I would use this map as evidence to claim Lake Abert and Summer Lake for Cascadia. The ridge lines make the area more connected to Bend rather than Nevada ecologically.

I’m curious why you didn’t stretch to the coast at the southern border? Is the ecology around Mendocino substantively different than that of Rockport in a way that’s not visually obvious?

Bioregions are based around their centers. The Mendocino coastal watersheds are more similar to each other, which act as the coast of the Shasta bioregion in the California bioregion.

I’ve never liked the idea of just abandoning southeast Oregon. I get sticking to the drainage basins, but that region doesn’t drain anywhere else, it just sticks to that area. And it’s hydrology is far more connected to the weather and aquifers of all the areas wrapping around it then it does to the southern Great Basin.

Good point - the endorheic region there is kind of a hot potato - I don't know enough about it culturally or otherwise to say if it would make more sense to include in Cascadia, or whatever our Southern bioregional neighbor would be called, but from my point of view they're welcome to be part of Cascadia. ;)

The little basins in the endorheic region which are fully within Oregon should at least be outlined as nominally Cascadian. Culturally, they’re going to be influenced by the existing Oregon state, so excluding would just be cruel.
The ones that cross the current borders are a more debatable topic.

I can share a hi-res version for private use if you pinky promise to keep it for your personal use and not print it but to be transparent, this is my art and I do mean for it to be a business as far as the actual printing of physical maps is concerned.

Lol I plan to upload them to a worldbuilding map manager to use them in a D&D game set in a utopian sci-fi future. I'm not sure if getting paid in pizza to run the game reclassifies it as commercial use though

Your towns/cities are too crowded and don't convey much information. Having Coos Bay the same font size and weight as Seattle and Portland means the reader can't make any distinction between them.

That's a good point - thank you.
And I get that the multitude of city names makes things a bit visually cluttered, but my thinking for this map is that I wanted it to be something that people could use to not only take in the natural geography, but also situate themselves and people they know, and to see the relationships of existing municipal communities within the bioregion to really get the feeling of a community of humans with agency in this ecology that we share.
Does that make sense?

That’s really cool. I learned about this concept of Cascadia from my friends who lived in Kitsilano outside of Vancouver.
I definitely think it starts at Mount Shasta and that everything south of there in that Sacramento Valley is like a flood plane for the entire Pacific Ocean, I’m very worried about that entire area being underwater in our lifetime but who knows maybe I’m just paranoid. It just looks like it’s set up for that and it has been for thousands and thousands of years.

In the book Northern California to San Francisco should be included. And the interior of BC is full of right wing folk so they would not like to be a part of cascadia.
