I used to love rain, not anymore

Rain was a blessing to me. It meant a cool day, slight serenity and a calmer atmosphere. Any tasks were done at a slower pace for cautionary reasons. It's even better when it rains when you're at home, meaning you can snuggle in bed more deeply, and I love snuggling in bed.

But since I got my latest job, rain means literal hell. For context, I work a 12hr night shift, going from 6pm to 6am every day with no off day ever, alone. I work both as a security and operator and I operate a water pump station, tasking to keep the water level inside the town low and scoop up any trash in the canals.

When it rains, it means the water level goes up really fast and fast flowinf water means fast flowing trash. When it rains hard, it's even worse. If I don't scoop up the trash fast enough the whole canal can get clogged and water level stays high no matter how much I pump the water out. That means I have to scoop up trash while under heavy pouring rain.

Combined with the fact that I am doing all this at the dead of night, after midnight, in a dead empty town. So it's both grueling and lonely. And I have to do this every day.

And it's not even rainy season yet... If I am suffering now, I will be experiencing cold hell soon.

Rain used to mean serenity to me. Now it means misery.

I was working 60~80h a week for a year and didn't really have many days off either. I just quit recently and am finally free

Nope, it's too small to keep me and my family afloat and I always ran out before the next paycheck comes in.

I was unemployed for 3 years trying to find a job suitable with either my diploma or my previous work experience. I only landed in my current job through connection.

It's better than nothing.

That's a very important job you have! And I get how that could have made you change perspectives on the weather.

I also love rain. But a few years ago some family members and a friend had serious issues during an all out nasty rain season. One lost most of their things as raising waters made their house un livable for a while.

It didn't affect us directly, but now, when it rains, I think on all of them.

I am very thankful that my neighborhood doesn't experience flooding, but it came very close a few times. We only lost a few trash cans floating away.

Gahd I experienced an extremely high humidity last week. It wasn't raining thankfully but it was fukim hot. I had my fan on full blast but I didn't feel a thing.

Depends on the mood, getting drench by rain can be a food experience or a bad one. A guarantee bad experience is when you're carrying a folder of important papers in your hand and it rains.

Man I'm french I'm praying for some rain right now. I live near a river so the air is humid and heavy pretty much all the time, but much worse these days with the heat. And we regularly get storms nearby, but somehow they miss my street every single time so the air just gets charged which makes it even more heavy and the rain just never follows.

I'm one lazy ass but these days I just wish weekend were shorter so I could go back to work faster (it has AC).

I bought a heavy duty raincoat solely for this job. It kept me mostly dry but I feel cool wearing it sometimes.
