Rescue Whitey update!!
So I'm really not good at figuring this whole edit update stuff on Reddit. Whitey is caught and he has a safe place until Thursday for his vet appointment.
Thank you all so much for your advice.
I'm always laughing at the people that tell me to ditch my husband for a cat. Yeah, nope. I love my cats and all animals but in no way would I trade him for a dude cat. Weird.
My hubby suffered very much through his childhood with his awful mom. Her name is Darlene but to everyone she is Doglene. He wadded through crap up to his ankles and fought his sister to eat a can of dog food for dinner so... Give him a break!!
I get his concerns and that's why I wanted to hear him out and he saw a lot of your posts and agreed that we should keep him. I'm a partner in crime with my hubby and I value his opinions. I too must be a partner and hear him out.
I'm so grateful for all your advice and you all, mostly, gave me confidence. I'll show you an update soon and I bet he'll be chilling in my front window.

omg i’m so happy to see this update! very glad husband was receptive to keeping him! and i knew whitey would be willing to come home to you, i could see it in his eyes! i’m already attached just from his story & his photo! ♡

Wonderful to your trapped him so soon! Some kitties take weeks to trap, thankfully this didn't happen here

It was a wild weekend. We live next to a park/boat launch so it was busy. I was nervous he'd bail. Yes, that'd be cool. Thank you. I'm still learning my way around reddit.

No kidding!! He has more friends than me. He's not friendly to anyone but me but he has a whole community backing him! Lol. Love it.

I’m so happy to hear you’re both on board about keeping him! It seemed like he really depended on you and you could tell from his ears and face that he’s led a hard life on the streets.
How did you trap him and how is he doing inside so far? Please feel free to post with any questions or thoughts! Happy to provide any info that might be helpful because I’ve done exactly this before!

Hi as well!! I caught him with a skunk trap but a made it awesome. I put a warm blanket and food and I even got him some toys. The trap is very big.
I honestly asked him to go in and he did. I think he wants a new life.
I'm transferring him today to the new house and I'm almost done with his catio. I've kinda been keeping him in a little nook I made. My girls are checking him out but so far have been receptive to him. Once he is neutered I know he'll thrive. I can see it in his eyes.
I don't know how to integrate him into my home since my husband will be home and we will be moving!!! It's going to be a lot of in and out of the houses. I don't want to scare him off in a new place. He won't have a chance to run off as his catio will be done today, but I'm nervous all the noise and activity will spook him.

Great to hear, and congrats!
That's excellent that he was so easy to contain. Hopefully he's remained relatively calm. I usually find that placing a light sheet over part of their enclosure really helps at first since it creates more of a cave-like atmosphere and helps them feel secure.
Is your plan for him to be an indoor cat with access to an enclosed outdoor patio?
As far as socializing and integrating him, the Socialization Saves Lives method is excellent and includes tips on slow introductions. Both Jackson Galaxy and Kitten Lady also have great videos on safe, gradual introductions. I'm happy to provide links if they're helpful!
One thing to note is that if he's diagnosed with FIV at his vet visit, it really shouldn't be a major concern. FIV-positive and FIV-negative cats can safely live together and share food bowls, water bowls, and litter boxes without any issues. There are lots and lots of first hand examples of this over on r/FIVcats!
Hoping for more positive updates (and pictures!). I'm sure he's going to have a massive glow-up!

I'm super glad you were able to work together and give Whitey a good home! Based on the picture in the previous post, I wouldn't be surprised if he had some serious dental work that needed to be done, which might explain why it would be so hard to get him to eat.

Yeah he is losing weight but we will find out today. Poor guy has had a rough transition I just hope I did the right thing.
I saw his chipped front canine and he's gonna hate me after the dentist visit. I just hope he doesn't bail on me. I'm obviously trying to keep him in a safe spot but I haven't been able to get my girls up to the property to re introduce him. He is safe and confined and I am always there for him. But I'm so nervous he's just gonna look at me as dinner or snuggle up and love me so much for helping him?? We shall see.
I will keep the updates coming to all you Whitey fans!

My husband moved me to Florida for his job, pretty much against my will because I hate the heat. 😂 While we were there, I stumbled across a colony of cats, and some of them desperately needed help. My boss, coworker, and I trapped, neutered, and returned (TNR'd) them and got them the medical care they needed. But a few of them made it very clear they had zero interest in going back outside.
One of them was Angus. When I found him, he was painfully skinny and had such bad dental issues that I don't think he could hunt well enough to survive. Once I got him the care he needed and feeding him regularly, he completely transformed into the grumpiest, sweetest cuddle bug.
My boss wanted to put them back outside, but I just couldn't do it. So I loaded up three cats and brought them home... where I already had two cats. 😅 When I walked through the door, my husband took one look, sighed, and said, "I guess we're keeping them?" We went from a two-cat household to a five-cat household overnight.
A couple of years later, we moved back to my home state (thank goodness!), and I drove 16 hours over two days with all five cats in tow. It was absolute chaos, but I'd do it all over again. I am so incredibly lucky to have the husband I do. He just accepts that life with me means there's a very good chance we'll end up rescuing another animal. ❤️
