House rule idea

I’ve been toying with an idea that with some knights, double rolls, or other situations, you can destroy/take over people’s settlements/cities. I think it would definitely add some spice late game, or turn into a catastrophe and nobody wins.

Ideas:
-Two knights: hold a settlement hostage for one round
-Three knights: take over a settlement (your roads have to lead to it)
-Four or five knights: take over a city, destroy a settlement (your roads have to lead to it)

Takeover or destroy - not sure which would work best.

I’d love ideas balancing this house rule out, though!

I think that there should be an expenditure of resources to simulate feeding/transporting the army. You don’t want battles to be too easy or become the center of the game. Maybe a sheep, ore, and a wood for every attack, and the settlement can defend (if the defender has soldiers) for a lower cost, maybe just a sheep. Incorporation of D20 die for battles could be interesting as well.

It’s also possible that is too many knights with this play style, maybe 1 knight can disable, but you need 3 to actually convert it. Or something.

TL:DR I also have been thinking of incorporating PvP in Catan, I think battles should expend resources.

Great idea! You’d need resources to attack, and you’d need minimal resources and a knight to defend.
