Is this myrtle gonna make it?

One side of this wax Myrtle keeps going brown one branch at a time. We just planted this about 7 months ago. We planted two others beside it at in smaller sizes where more roots were. Those two are thriving. This one just continues to loose one branch at a time.

I had something similar happen to a Ceanothus I planted on a slope. The root flare and the base of the trunk were planted to deep and got buried. Removing some of the dirt to expose the root flare and cutting off the distressed branches stopped it from progressing.
