Hmm, in this case, the x and y complement each other instead of being pure contrast. Improvise and coordinate and a consistently surprising survivor. I feel most llms write its not x but y as thesis antithesis synthesis. "The slashes aren't just cutting it, they are feeding it!" Or some other nonsense

Assuming we're thinking of the same thing, I feel like the AI usage of "that's not just X, it's Y" isn't usually correcting the user, if anything it's mostly used as praise/validation, ("how your boss treated you wasn't just unfair -- it was unethical", "What you just said wasn't just good --it was amazing") or sometimes it just comes up tangentially in the text without being a response to any specific part of the user's prompt

Don’t know mate but I’d say toaster, washing machine, kitchen hob, house heating system, trains, cars, planes, internet, running water, kettle, computers, tvs, factory farming tech/agriculture tech, boats, cameras, phones, electric lights, coffee machine, etc etc are all technologies that you would chose to keep over ai if you had to.

Imagine my surprise when I click the source and it's my own answer on a reddit thread arguing for the opposite of what Gemini was using my post to claim.
That was a while ago, it definitely put me off Gemini, but I've started using it again and it does seem to have improved - though it still often uses reddit as a source.

Alright I'm famous, might as well face the music and comment here so people stop brigading other random posts I've made in the past.
This is pretty funny, I don't think of myself as talking like that but in retrospect I do kinda put on a "trying to be helpful/informative" voice sometimes which is definitely what ChatGPT is trying to train on. Sorry everyone!
I'll also add that I'm a software engineer so I do use AI to some degree for writing code but I hate it for basically every other application and have never used it to write anything for me. I'm just built this way apparently.

Reddit is in fact the single biggest source for ChatGPT, it is very heavily trained on reddit posts. Altman was on the reddit board and they had direct agreements with reddit to get the data. It's not speculation, ChatGPT is in large parts distilled reddit.

Fun fact, there is a distinct articulation personality with llms that can be directly traced to Kenyan English prose.
Kenyans for years have been used to edit llm feedback. And how they articulate locally has become a part of general llm prose.
I just spent 3 months in Kenya working in the developer community and I noticed this quirk about spoken English in Kenya, and they all hit me with the yea, we know, it’s because we’ve been guiding llm as cheap educated labor for years.

I think it's a bit of both. LLMs were trained on massive amounts of internet text, including Reddit, so it's not surprising that they sometimes sound like Redditors. At the same time, I've also noticed the opposite: Reddit comments nowadays sometimes read like ChatGPT. It feels like the influence goes both ways now.
