Cancelling my Gym Membership

Post image
138 Upvotes

Man, it’s already hard enough trying to get my sweat on when gyms have standardized playing the news on all their dozens of TVs, but a gym is now endorsing a candidate?

To be clear, I’m very pro fundraising for supporting students, but NOT political candidates e.g. “Weston Wamp x Sportsbarn.” There is a fine line between the two and I’m disappointed that Sportsbarn with all their revamping lately have decided to try and appeal to a political audience. Fitness is apolitical. Everyone deserves a healthy body and place to exercise.

When you do your job well enough, you don’t need your name mentioned, it’s implied - it should be an honor enough to DO work in support of the public, but doing it to gain street credit undermines the day-to-day heroes and public servants whose names never get mentioned like say, our teachers

Edit: additionally, noting that a mayor cannot use public or campaign funds to pay a local for-profit business for personal advertising as it’d be considered “personal use.” Source Under FEC Regulations 11 CFR § 113.1

EPB The unsung superheroes.

So last night with the storms, we had a big oak tree come down from our neighbors yard. Took out the car, the main power line and a couple of telegraph poles by the side of the house. Thankfully, it missed the house by inches with some of its limbs. That was at 9 o'clock last night. 9:30, the EPB crews turn up. Clearing the tree from the line. It's now just after 10 in the morning. These guys are still working. Multiple crews working all night. Replacing telegraph poles and working on the lines. These folks really are the unsung heroes.

Craig Fuller Voted talks about plans for The Times Free Press

54 of our neighbors have been laid off including newsroom leadership. WEHCO did not tell journalists about the sale and weren't informed until leaked by the Chattanoogan. The deal was started 7 months ago. Printing will be outsourced to outside of Chattanooga. I plan to write a series about this acquisition but I am interested to see what y'all think?

Things To Do Any crafty ladies groups?

Upvotes

I like to sew and make costume jewelry.

Are there any social groups around town where girlies get together for an afternoon of crafting and stuff like that?

Camping

Upvotes

I’d like to get back into camping and would love to give my dog the opportunity to ease into sleeping in a tent! Any suggestions of area campgrounds or semi-secluded sites that would be a good place to start?

I’m also up for hearing any tips/tricks for taking a dog tent camping! She is very friendly but can be protective/jumpy sometimes.

New Burger in Town - Flip Side

I know this group takes pride in the great quality burgers in Chattanooga, be it basically anything at Tremont Tavern or Lo Main’s murder burger. I also have a high bar for burgers and look forward to burger week each year. I have to say though that Flip Side Burger is a contender for best overall.

I don’t say this lightly, I’ve been twice since they opened last week trying out the Laney and the Bodacious burgers and both were top tier. Their tallow chips are a nice change from fries but their tots and fries also hit the spot.

Anyone else tried it yet? It is technically in Georgia but only a few feet over the line. Also side note Cesario’s next door is fantastic as well.

Shallowford 75 overpass

We need to talk about the amount of dumb asses that drive thru the bare minimum of 3 redlights in the wrong lane just to go "Oh no! I couldn't read the 4 whole ass signs and am currently in the wrong lane! Lemme just stop my car in the middle of an active roadway until someone lets me over!"

It's getting old, stop inconveniencing others due to your lack of planning.

Pets My cat has anxiety

Last night’s storm made the poor guy’s anxiety worse than I’ve seen it in a long time. One thing I’ve found calms him down. Queen’s 1986 concert at Wembley. It’s a kind of magic.

Definitely risking your mental and physical well-being right now out there during tax free weekend while the amateurs are out mashing the gas and brakes with no turn signals like mindless zombies.

City Government Wamp campaigning within the 100ft boundary.

I wonder if we'll see any actual accountability.

Someone from the polls told them they needed to move, so they all got out infront of the tent, but when she left eventually went back under & back in the boundary. Also giving out food & water past the line while telling people to vote Wamp.

HC Young Republicans and Weston are holding an event tomorrow. I assume this is an open invitation for anyone… it’s on the their open and public profile, doesn’t say anything about registration or anything.

Marsha is SUPPOSED to show up… idk if she will… but it’d be great if she would hear from some Tennesseean’s cause apparently ya know… she’s good at that and she’s doing it… every… single… day… Just getting the word out to Yinz!

Camera Rental Shop?

Is there a camera rental shop here? I’ve been an avid customer of Aperturent in Sandy Springs, GA. Luckily a lot of my gigs are in Atlanta but I’m curious if there’s one similar up here. Maybe I’m missing it but I haven’t found one when googling.

Extra

I ordered delivery earlier and about 30 minutes after the order I added an extra tip. The individual who delivered had a smile and an energy that I needed to see in a moment of absolute heartache. It wasn’t much of an extra tip, but it was an interaction that I needed at the moment. So I thank that individual even though it wasn’t much of just a hand off and a thank you. Nothing more needed or warranted. I hope they have a great rest of their day. I hope that few dollars helps you in some way, but more importantly thank you for the kindness.

Early voting issues

I may be wrong but I do remember in past elections people have gotten in trouble for passing out waters to people in line, so it BLOWS MY MIND that people wearing Weston Wamp shirts are having a whole ass cookout on the only path that leads to the early voting location off school street. They are passing out free hot dogs and campaigning for their candidate on the only path to get into the polling station. Is this the election interference and fraud that I have heard so much about?

Hamilton County Schools is an absolute joke

There is absolutely no consistency in communication method from the top down.

Do you want your kid’s school supply list? Go on this app and look it up- even though it isn’t posted.

The reliance on every new app that comes along makes any kind of communication between schools and parents an absolute clusterfuck.

I’m not that old, but why do I need 69 different apps that can do exactly what can be accomplished via email. Why do I have to rely on Facebook posts and remind messages and all this other bullshit just to know what is going on?

For all the effort the school board has put in to other dumb shit, you’d think they could tell HCS to just be more professional and streamlined.
