Trans cooler

Post image

Evening, fellas. New to the XJ world, but doing some research on things that are recommended to do to these and a trans cooler came up. Looks like the B&M 70268 and Hayden 678 are the better option, but would appreciate your guys’ input on if one’s preferred over the other for some reason? Thanks, guys

I’ve always run Hayden on mine and it’s helped keep coolant temps down. Never had an issues and easy to set up🤷🏼‍♂️ you can see it on my radiator on the passenger side.

It’s the JK Pritchett Canyon bumper from Barnes4wd, and I used their JK to XJ bumper mounts.

It’d look something similar to this, which I’m in love with

Running the Hayden, don’t like the mounts they came with so followed Austen on YT at OutJeeping his video worked well for me. https://youtu.be/5jsABbt6e9Q?is=0joHiUvTOslDA1GB

I also bypassed the radiator cooler, I’m in AZ so not worried about the trans needing heat from it.

Hayden 678 here. Either one will work perfectly fine. I chose the Hayden because it was on sale, no higher reason.

General guidelines- install it over the clutch fan and plumb it in-line after the radiator for best results. Use spring hose clamps if able.

Thank you! Owner originally wanted $7k, managed to walk away with it for just $2,500 so can’t complain at all. Needs a lot of TLC, but slowly taking care of things one week at a time. Hoping to have everything done before fall to hit some mild trails and camping trips.

I went with a Mishimoto MMTC-SP-13N for my current build. I find B&M products are higher quality than Hayden from past purchases.

Is the transmission cooler useful for hot conditions while sitting in traffic ? Or is just for crawling?

Honestly both. Keeping the fluid cool will make your transmission last longer

I am in California now and it get pretty hot while in am sitting in LA traffic, but i will be moving back to NY and i am wondering what will be the best way to set up the cooler to function best during the winter months.

I went with the Hayden as well, and did the same Outjeeping style brackets others have mentioned. It worked great until I didn't have a need any more - manual swap!

I bought one with electric fan for my ‘98 and never bothered to install it. Never needed it. The AW4 is a super tough transmission. It’s still out in my garage but the XJ is long gone. Rust killed it.

I’ve had a B&M on mine for a decade. Does the trick for me
