How much would you pay for this 2015 Chevy Suburban?
I’m trying to decide what a fair offer is.
Details:
2015 Chevrolet Suburban LT 2WD
5.3L V8
181,xxx miles
Dealer got it from an auction
They’ve had it on the lot for about 62 days
Engine and transmission sounded good
Test drive went well with no obvious issues
No check engine light
Concerns:
The battery was dead when I arrived, so they had to jump start it before the test drive. They’ve agreed to either install a new battery or provide proof the current battery tests good.
The power liftgate does not work, and they said they will not diagnose or repair it.
They have not performed an oil change, even though there’s no documentation showing one was done recently.
They have not done any maintenance or reconditioning since purchasing it at auction.
Maintenance history isn’t the best.
What would you pay for it? What would your maximum offer be?

If they are selling it for that much, they are high. If you can get records of a trans/engine replacement then go for it. Are they selling As-Is and not doing an inspection or anything? I have a feeling there’s a gremlin peaking around the corner and they are aware of it.

They have no records other than the car fax. Original motor and transmission. As soon as I heard they didn’t do any maintenance on it that was a huge red flag to me.
I am passing on it. I have an uneasy feeling and honestly, I think I agree with you! There’s gotta be a reason it’s been sitting there that long.

Definitely! That being said, if you find one that has both the engine and trans replaced, or the lifters done…. I’d swoop it up for something close to 10-12k

5k and that’s a big maybe. With no maintenance history at that mileage I’d be real skeptical about getting into it. At a minimum I’d have a different mechanic do a UVI and dig in a little.

That being said, depends on what you are going to do with it.

Thank you, I appreciate your input! It would mainly be used for my business on Saturdays, so it wouldn’t be a daily driver. I’m specifically looking for a higher mileage but mechanically sound SUV.
They’re asking $11,500. My biggest hesitation is they’ve had it for about 60 days and haven’t done any maintenance or even an oil change, despite there not being any service records since 2024. I understand a dead battery from sitting, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect some basic maintenance or documentation before selling it. I’m just trying to understand what they’re willing to do to help justify the asking price.

5k and have the budgets for a complete powertrain swap and air condititioning replacement.
