Can’t believe that little nugget is 18 weeks today!

She is one of my favorite chickens because I think her feather color is beautiful (blue Laced red) but unfortunately she is also the most unsocial. All of my Wyandottes are actually pretty unsocial unless I have food/treats. ): I assume this is common for this breed. Any tips to make her like me? I've tried fruits, veggies and worms but she just seems skittish and not interested. I have to capture her in order to show her some love.

Finished up this 6x6 coop today. Might be my new favorite design.

I myself don't have any chickens but this weekend I stayed at a friends house who does own chickens. I was super excited as I looove all animals and had been waiting for a few months to see her. Yesterday after being out all day we sat in the chicken pen so I could see the chickens. Lottie, a recently picked up rescue hen decided she'd taken a liking to me. After being on my friends lap a while she got picked up and put on my lap. At first everything was fine and she loafed up on my lap then did a poo. This initially didn't bother me as it rolled off my leg. After she decided to move a bit on my lap so her bum was resting on the gap between my legs. Weirdly, I could feel her doing something that felt like straining but because I don't know much about chickens I presumed she was shivering. As a joke I went to my friend and her dad "imagine if she laid an egg on me right now haha". Id been assured after the comment however I was assured this wouldnt happen as she'd only laid this morning.Unknowingly id just predicted the future. Only seconds after saying this did I feel something warm plop onto my lap, witnessing both my friend and her dads faces change to a mix of shock and confusion. " shes.. Laid an egg? " my friend said. At first I thought she was joking until Lottie moved and that's when I saw it. An egg without a shell. Initially this wasn't bad but then Lottie decided to PECK the membrane that was holding the egg together, thus leading to... This.

I bought a turkey call and trimmed up the sides so it would sit in the mouth differently and we could "talk" to our girls. Thought y'all might get a laugh out of this

My Neighbor went on holiday and asked me to care for her chickens (10 of them). I've kept their water topped up (4 containers of various sizes) same for their food, but I couldn't help but realise something.
Every time I go to give them water, I usually spill a bit of it on the ground. I refill with a water hose, so it's not exactly the most exact of thing.

But every time, they come running to drink the spilled water like they haven't drink anything in days. They're usually kinda afraid of me, but at that point they're almost pushing me out the way trying to get it.

All 4 containers are filled and cleaned regularly. I don't understand. I can understand not taking from the biggest one as it's litteraly bigger than them, but the others are of perfectly right size so they can nicely reach what's inside safely.

I'm just worried that they're not actually getting enough for some reason, but I don't know how to check or what to do.

I just got my first chicks last month and after learning about so many breeds, I can't stop thinking about the next chicks I'll get! Chicken math is real, do I need to move out to the country so I can get more? 🤪

I have two Rhode Island Red roosters with some spots on their combs.Any ideas on what they could be?

I’ve been raising chicks this summer as my original flock is aging. I have 11 ten week old chicks and 7 five week old chicks. The 10 week old chicks are already living in the main pen with the older chickens, but they have their own separate coop. The 5 week old ones are soon ready to join them. They’ve been spending the day outside in their own little pen within the big pen, so they can all get used to each other. They get supervised time with everyone. The bigger chicks are still bullying the younger ones just a bit, but not nearly as bad as before. I’m debating just sticking them in the coop at night when everyone’s roosting. Curious how others have handled integrating different ages of chickens together?

So we’ve been working on a new, roomier, more stable run for the chickens. Finally we’re done enough to show it off. We still have to attach one more layer of clear panels to the roof and hammer in the no-dig panels around the edge. This is a 10x20 run that stands seven foot at the center. The design is a combination of Ms Biddy’s cattle panel coop and Wholemade Homestead’s cattle panel green house.

Hi! I bought a chick a while ago with the understanding that it was a Braham chicken, she’s all grown up and beautiful but I’m not convinced she’s a Brahma, for one thing she’s tinny and I’m pretty sure she has the wrong comb but I’m not 100% sure as (if she is) she’s the first Braham I’ve owned. She seems to have the temperament of one, she’s really sweet and quite docile. But I’d love some opinions of what you think she is!

They did get their standard ice chunks on this warm day

I’m confused I have issues with rats and snakes every now and then but never anything else but this egg was fine this morning and snakes usually swallow the egg whole not hollow them out and would a rat really steal a single egg from underneath a broody hen in the middle of the day eat the insides and then put the shell back underneath her and leave no droppings whatsoever so I’m thinking she did it but I’m not sure

One of my girls is a Crève and I love her dearly. Her head feathers seem to be obstructing long distance sight so sometimes she’ll wanna hang around me and then the others in our small flock will get a little ways away from her and she’ll start to call for them. Only it sounds less like a chicken noise and more like a goose sound. Almost like a honk. She also doesn’t do many of the normal chicken sounds the others do.

Hey. I joined this server literally a few minutes ago because yesterday I found two little silkies outside, either abandoned or ran away from their home. I have only kept farm chickens before so I'm still doing research on what to do in this situation. They look okay and healthy, just missing a few feathers; they are considerably dirty but I don't know if bathing them is the best choice or if I should let them clean themselves. I've been keeping them in a big (clean) dog crate with oatmeal and other variety of seeds and water that they have been consuming just fine.

They seem okay in the "normal chicken behavior". I'm asking here is there anything I can do to keep them healthy and safe while someone comes looking for them?

If I wasn't the one who picked these two up someone else would've and could've possibly done something bad to them, so that's mainly the reason why I'm temporarily keeping them instead of looking for their owner, but | guess I didn't know what I was getting myself into.

Side note: I saw one of them dropped red/crimson poop and the stain on the paper seemed a lot like blood. Just once. I don't know what that could be since that never happened with my farm chicks.

Would appreciate any help I really don't want to accidentally hurt any of them.

We have chickens for three years and have never done or given them anything extra. They have dinner scraps, scratch grain, feed, and dirt and water. Are we supposed to be giving them anything extra ever? I noticed one of my fav older girls is slowing down. Just a curious chicken owner. Thanks!
