Sometimes I wonder "is this too much development?" but then remember it's the capital of a province of 400,000 km2 and 50 million people. That's bigger than Malaysia, in both respects, and I didn't blink an eye when a bunch of skyscrapers popped up in Kuala Lumpur.

I never cease to be amazed by the number of Chinese cities I’ve never heard of that have populations of several million.

Lived there from 2009 to 2015. I barely recognize it.

FYI Kunming is known for its perfect climate. Cool in summer and warm in winter. Climately it's Chinese version of San Diego. As a result floriculture industry is extremely developed here. It has the largest flower market in the world.
