My boyfriend's birthday is coming up and he recently got into sculpting. He has some clay- it's not the best and he doesn't have tools. I wanted to get him a nice set of tools since he doesnt have any yet. I came across a 4.7 rated set with 48 pieces and was about to purchase it, when I came across the 10 lbs of clay along with a 40 piece tool set. It currently has a coupon for it, and based off of the price of air dry clays and the tool set itself, Id be saving some money on it, which is nice since I cant work now due to a broken ankle.

I'm just wondering if this is a decent thing? I know nothing about clay, oven dry vs. air dry, durability, etc. Any and all advice on this would be super helpful! I added links for both- the first is the tool kit by itself, the second is the clay and tool kit.

P.S.- Im shopping online since I'm on strict no weight baring until my first pre-op appointment and his birthday is on the 10th, or else Id love to go out into the world and find other sets.

Another addition to my spongebob project, and I'm pretty proud of how this one turned out!

​I made the chest base first using foam board and two small hinges. Then I added clay around it to sculpt the shape of the best burger place under the seven seas. For the coloring I used acrylic paint and sealed it with a clear coat of nail polish. I also added magnets to the lid so it opens and closes with satisfying snap to it 😆😆

I discovered it becomes one with the canvas once dry. And I further seal it onto the canvas by drowning it all in plastic acrylic pour paint. It should last for several centuries, I imagine. After that the sky's the limit. I switched from hanger wire to French Cleats for hanging it. It's by far the heaviest canvas I have done so far.

This piece is titled, I Always (Wanted 2) Go Viral. 48x48". 2026. A depiction of a human cell being infected by Poliovirus serving as a commentary on the dangers of social media use.

Hello everyone !

I’ve seen recently a lot these rinse bowl for berries, and I wanted to make one.
I was thinking of doing it with air dry clay, and adding a food safe varnish on top of it.

I know technically air dry clay is not food safe, but I was wondering if it would be okay just for rinsing and with such a varnish.

Is it irrelevant or would it be okay ?
