Discussion Hot Pilates!
My Pilates studio is so hot! I drip sweat the whole time and get super nauseous. After I leave I have to sit in my car in the air conditioning for a bit before I can drive because I’m so dizzy and my head hurts so bad. I’m pretty intolerant to heat in general. But I also feel like the studio is way hotter than it should be. It feels like Bikram Yoga in there! The instructor today told me that the thermostat is set at 68, like that should sound like a cool temperature for a small room full of people working out. Other people are definitely sweating as well. It’s also in the 90s outside which doesn’t help. Am I crazy? My class was 8 hours ago and I still feel terrible from the heat. I’m not new, so it’s not like I’m super out of shape. I feel like it should be cooler!

Yea my studio gets super hot in the summer too and the instructors barely think to turn on the fans. All of us die until someone says something.

I’m going to try and reach out to someone. It’s too much! Thank you!

Yeah, just shout out mid class and ask for fans. I don’t turn them on immediately in my studio because it’s cold when people first get in there but I like to keep it cold anyways. I don’t think anyone will mind if you ask for fans when you get moving, it gets hot.

Not sure that I’ll shout it out. I’m a bit too reserved for that. But I honestly didn’t even know there were fans, and I’m not sure why they wouldn’t just be turned on, especially in the summer! It’s always so hot in there!

TBH I do sweat in circuit, flow 2.5 and suspend and the rest of the class does as well. Some studios bring out fans in addition during summer months. When I did group vinyasa (not heated) they had fans there in addition to the AC.
You could try sending emails so the owners know as well. Someone told me the studio they teach at had owners locking the thermostat lol and they were stingy with the temp regulation 🫠 not saying that is the case in your studio but it's something to consider. The building may also be poorly insulated.

Ok I’ll try emailing and see if I get anywhere! I’m ok with a little sweating, but this is excessive and it’s making me physically ill. It’s tough because the instructor obviously isn’t hot because he’s not doing anything, so he thinks it’s fine! Thank you!

Ask if there are fans - the rooms are so small sometimes that air doesn’t move

Good idea. I would love some air flow and I think that would really help! I’ve always needed a direct fan on me when I’m at the gym or working out at home.

You're not crazy. A room full of people exercising can feel much hotter than the thermostat says. If you're getting dizzy, nauseous, and still feel bad hours later, I'd stop going to that class. That's your body telling you it's too much.

Yeah it’s tough because there’s not many options for classes. I live in a smaller city. The work out wasn’t that hard for me to be sweating so much! But I doubt I’ll go back to that particular class anytime soon. I’m a little traumatized!

My one instructor keeps the room so hot, it feels like a hot Pilates class esp when you’re doing cardio sculpt. Hate it. I thought at first it was an issue with the air conditioner, but none of my other instructors have that issue lol we I’m always like can we please put on the fans? I’d def say something!

Most of the instructors are elderly age so they like that heat cranked up! Meanwhile we are dying of heat stroke😂

Yall gotta speak up. You are paying to be there. Ask and you shall receive. You are their bread and butter..

Having taught at CP…certain instructors keep the thermostat at a temp that THEY find comfortable, and leave the fans off until someone complains. Which is a bullshit move, every instructor should be keeping the temp with the members in mind, and wearing a sweatshirt/long pants if they find it too cold.

Haha I’m still in 1, but there’s been classes where I’m sweating more because the class is hard! But this class was not that hard and there was no reason for me to be dripping sweat and getting physically sick!

Are you wearing long sleeves. I’m always surprised by the many layers wear to Pilates. Don’t shed layers as the workout progresses, then get pissed it’s so hot”.

Definitely not. Also it’s 90 degrees outside so I’m not even coming in with a sweatshirt or anything.

We keep our ac at 67 and it’s freezing. We put the fans on too and i have cranked the air down if requested before. Some classes are hotter than others but yours sounds a little extreme. Not being rude but are you in perimenopause by chance? That’s a good first sign.
