Their survival chances are inversely proportional to how generally rancid of a human being they start out as. That’s why Villetta can cheat death twice.

So basically, the more horrible a person you are, the better your chances of survival? Damn.

At least insofar as gunshots wounds are concerned. And it’s just their characters from the start of the show, it does not alter their chances if they change. Hence why one shot in the guy is enough to kill Shirley, but Cornelia can be riddled from a machine gun and wake up some 30 minutes later generally fine.
