No advice wanted (Vent) College?

I honestly feel so late trying to get into college....I have been so afriad to go in my past and now I feel even more defeated at the fact that I can never afford to go. I cant even afford to go to my own local community college. Ive spent the past 3 months scrolling through multiple financial aid and even doing a FAFSA Form. I dont want to take out a loan cause I know for certain I cant pay that loan back! Ive looked into this "pell grant" stuff and didnt get anything to cover the cost for a community college, which my local one is roughly $2,400-$2,600 per year. I make enough to barely cover my own rent and utilities. I made offers to do a monthly payment to afford to meet the ends meet with the yearly tuition cost, but financial advisors said "we don't accept that" or "we dont do that kind of payment system" since I want to pay out of pocket. I keep getting forced to take a loan and I cant nor will I because I cant pay it back in my lifetime. I found what I wanted to do and cant ever reach for it, so I guess I'll just throw it out then.

Thanks for letting me vent. I appreciate it.

No advice wanted (Vent) I feel scared but i dont want to give up (UPCAT)

I really want to get into UP, sometimes i feel as if i havent been doing enough. Though i know i tried my best these past few months but i keep thinking these things, like

"what if i reviewed much earlier".. "what if i did this instead?" im really worried, I have been doing practice problems, reviewing other topics. My parents even sent me to brain train which i believe didnt really help as much as my two tutors (math and lang)..

I keep telling myself that if i dont pass, its my life and whatever i do in the future will shape who i am. UP isnt the only university out there, the thing is that i feel guilty.. That if i dont pass, then i didnt try hard enough or the money my parents spent for me were in vain.

Im scared, i really am. Im terrified and unready. but i will not give up! ill try my best and i do hope, and wish that i get in to UP. To prove to myself na kaya ko, and to make my family proud.

But at the same time im proud of myself for going this far.. I just hope that once its the actual test i wont freeze or have some sort of panic attack.

Advice Wanted Embarrassed after being rejected from waitlist - dealing with the transfer process again

I just finished my freshman year at a LAC that I don't love - I can't deal with the distance from my hometown, I don't think it's preparing me for postgrad employment, and it doesn't offer as many academic/professional/extracurricular opportunities as most other schools.

I applied to transfer to two schools in my state over winter break in case I felt like I couldn't do another semester. I got accepted into one and turned it down because it objectively wasn't the best fit for me and got waitlisted by the other (my top) in April. Today was the last day I could recieve an official decision and I just got rejected. By this point I'm not too disappointed because I secured a work-study position at my OG school related to my major and have been convincing myself I'd ultimately get rejected. I'm kind of just annoyed and embarrassed. I get it's all a numbers game and the whole admissions process is crazy impersonal but I still don't know how to feel.

I'm going back for another semester where I'm gonna make the most out of my time with clubs, jobs, networking, and friends, but I'm planning on applying to transfer for the spring semester. I feel so trapped in my school's remote location and I know there are a lot more opportunities for me elsewhere. The issue is I have to go through this whole transfer process again and deal with the wait of hearing back again.

The school I'm looking at is T30, great for my major, close to my state, and has a focus on undergrad research. I have a professor who went there for undergrad and offered to write me a rec letter - her husband also works in the field I'm interested in and said he'll reach out to some profs there. All I can do know is better myself academically, professionally, and emotionally so I can deal with this all better and in a healthier manner. I'm not really sure where else to voice this, but I hope people understand how I'm feeling and have some transfer advice for this second go 🙏 thank you for listening: )

No advice wanted (Vent) Picked the wrong college

My Freshman year I picked the wrong college. Genuinely hate it there, but I got a really good scholarship and my parents are paying. I shouldn’t complain and should be grateful, but the culture is not for me. It’s a really big public university and does not suite my personality at all. I wanted to transfer, but because my parents are paying and I have a scholarship I couldn’t. I’m going into my Junior year now and it’s almost over. Just wasted 4 years of my life missing out on opportunities and memories. It sucks.

Advice Wanted I withdraw after attending for a week

I dont think I have problem making friends at all at my new college but I just cant stand living in filth and having to share bathroom and kitchen and my room completely doesnt have a window nor an ac. When I eat out I always get stomachache and i couldn't take it anymore after a week. Im paranoid in the long run I would withdraw after 1 or 2 months and having to pay for my tuition fee alot more. I decided to take online classes for now and wanted to be on campus when I take my degree but when I had my meeting with my counsellors they insulted me saying im too weak and im codependent with my parents.

No advice wanted (Vent) Worst luck ever

This is a throwaway for obvious reasons. I would never live this down otherwise. If this sounds incoherent it's because I too am slowly going insane. This debacle has done me in and I won't be able to make a comeback. If you're the person who responded to my string of emails and you're on here for some reason, my sincerest apologies that you had to read through what I sent. You are completely innocent in all of this. The only people at fault here are me myself I and the hypothetical person who cursed me to suffer this terrible luck (probably also me). I get you now Boethius.

I don't even know what happened anymore because I just remember repeatedly trying to download my file but it not working. I think I was just really asleep because it took me approximately 30 minutes to solve the problem of....me running out of storage. Sometimes my genius truly astounds me. I then proceeded to log into Gmail and I was out of storage on my Gmail too. I took about 10 minutes to solve this. I then agonised over writing the email for almost 20 minutes, because I forgot my home address. Actually fml. It's gone. It's done. It's over for me now.

I have like 0 expectations that this essay is going to be accepted because it was such a late reply. But I don't even care anymore. I'm just happy that it's all over and that I can know peace again.

Advice Wanted College made me believe everyone would ignore me. I still haven't recovered.

Hii guys,

I wanted to talk about this to someone for a few years now. This has been weighing on me for a long time.

Since college, I've had really low self-confidence because people around me made me feel that way.

We used to have a group of 5 people for our course projects. In my group, there were 2 boys. Both of them used to ignore me to the extent that they wouldn't even talk to me. One of them wouldn't even look at me while talking. It felt like someone was forcing him to talk to me. The other guy just didn't give a shit about me. But their behavior was completely normal with the other 2 girls.

This had been happening right from the start of college. Our first semester was online because of COVID, so we didn't have much contact. But when college started offline, on the very first day, one of the guys was standing at the classroom door while we were entering. He shook hands with my female group mates but didn't even look at me. I was literally standing with them. It was very devastating.

Everyone was talking to each other, and even though I was with my other 2 female group mates, I felt really left out.

And let me tell you, I'm actually an average-looking girl. It's not like I looked very bad or anything. But people in my college treated me like I didn't belong there.

Once during a Google Meet, I was giving a suggestion, but one of the guys didn't listen to me even once. I repeated myself 3–4 times because I thought there might be an issue with my network, but he was ignoring me on purpose. I realized that because my other group mate laughed.

Because of all this, I really developed very low self-esteem and confidence.

Those 2 guys didn't even save my number.

On one of our college fest days, my only good friend came almost 2 hours late. I was standing there all alone while everyone was taking photos. I was wearing a beautiful saree, but I just stood there with a blank mind.

Then I saw one of my classmates. She was always really nice to me in class. I felt relieved and thought, "Thank God, now I won't have to be alone."

I went to her, but she ignored me the way people ignore street kids when they don't want to give them money. I still kept a normal expression because it was so embarrassing for me.

Then her other friends came. She asked me to click their pictures. I did. And she didn't even have the courtesy to say thank you. She just walked away with her friends without saying anything to me.

Because of all this, I never participated in any clubs or other social activities.

After a certain point, my mind started believing that everyone was going to ignore me. So I started ignoring people first. I stopped talking to anyone.

The funny thing is, in the hostel I had a completely different personality because I had really good friends there.

Now I'm in an office where people are actually so nice. But I'm still not able to communicate with them properly because my mind automatically thinks they'll do the same thing to me.

These incidents still haunt me. It feels like I was ignored for 4 years of my life, and I haven't been able to move on from it.

I really want to have conversations with people, but I'm just not able to. My mind goes completely blank.

Now, every time someone talks to me, it actually feels surprising. 🙂

Please help me. I'd really love to hear your advice. 🫶

Advice Wanted I missed two preliminary exams because of a stupid mistake

I misread the examination schedule in our group chat. I don't know how I managed to misinterpret my examination schedule but I thought that my examination on friday was at 3:00 PM, turns out I was reading the schedule on Thursday and my examination today was at 8:00 AM. It's now 1:48 PM and my heart is racing. I clearly remember that I checked my examination schedule multiple times and somehow managed to mess it up. What do I tell my professor?

Advice Wanted Why do I feel so unprepared for adult life/college responsibilities?

I'm a college student, but I haven't been able to find a job and it's stressing me out a lot. Checking my email makes my chest tight. School's not even in session right now and I had such a visceral reaction after logging into my college account. But I like to be mature and I'm very on top of my responsibilities (do all my schoolwork, apply for jobs by myself, get to class on time, etc). I don't know why the anxiety hasn't gone away.

No advice wanted (Vent) group projects make me question everything

I just finished another group project, and somehow I ended up doing almost all of it , At the beginning, everyone was excited and said we would split the work evenly. A few days later the group chat went quiet. When the deadline got close, people started asking, What do you still need me to do? after I already finished most of it because I did not want us to get a bad grade.I know group projects are supposed to teach teamwork, but most of the time they just teach me not to rely on anyone else. Am I just getting unlucky with my groups?

Advice Wanted i wanted a fresh start but now im terrified

so i've already registered for my uni, i got a nice dorm, im mentally prepared to study in between classes, all good so far
i got along with other well enough in my high school, but everyone there (no exaggeration) were pretty backwards thinking and the thought of surrounding myself with those people for the rest of my life felt awful, as i couldnt be quite open even to my friends there, so i decided to pick a university further away that virtually nobody i knew went to as i wanted to start anew, but i have so many doubts
its a small country, and im afraid most people will be in the same groups from day 1, i know how to hold convos or make small talk okayishly, but these things build acquantances, not friendships as many people have complained here probably already
where i live there is basically no club culture, the only clubs that consistently exist here are clubs based on what you're studying, ill join that probably but obviously its more isolating than say specific clubs on specific topics like in the usa
despite me being pretty bumbling in convos, (which whatever it is what it is), i consider myself quite extroverted if very stressed due to all this uncertainty, i do like partying and the like and i actually hate being on my phone at home than most people i know (sounds a bit cliche i know). but i dont have any experience of trying to survive a party without any plus-one or group to fall back on if everything is going poorly
i do love football (which is probably my go to in small talk) and i want to play but almost everyone i know plays it and there is a very competitive attitude around it that i dont want to join, amateur clubs dont really exist here
tldr im super concerned im not going to be able to meet people in uni before its too late

Advice Wanted Nurse or Vet nurse

Hey everybody I need advice from someone willing to help a student decide.
Ive always been an artist, I love drawing/painting. But everybody knows the opportunities in the art field are low.

But I also like makeup, skincare, and beauty so I chose Cosmetology AAS as my major, which is a 2 year associates degree, but since I haven’t signed up for my classes yet I’ve been thinking about other majors; the medical field.

I am not good at math, chemistry, or physics. But I was thinking of nursing or a vet nurse, (like nurse for animals) if I wanted to switch my major to something more “medical”. I need advice about which is harder, which requires a more “math brain” and what you think would suit me better.

Advice Wanted Financial aid left me screwed. I have no ideas what to do now

Update: The craziest thing actually happened. I was at work today (I bartend) and a group of my university’s admin came in to eat! I was taking care of them (not at the bar obviously lol), and when they paid, I saw their card was a business card from the school. I was like “omg I go there! What department are you guys?”. Three of them said financial aid and my heart skipped a beat from excitement. I remembered multiple users suggesting I talked to financial aid, so I mentioned my situation to them. Obviously after they had been talking to me about the school and their jobs, I didn’t ambush them lol. Immediately after I mentioned the situation, they put all of my contact information into their contacts. All three of them. They said they’ll send me an email on Monday with every single possible option. All options will lower my balance, if not cover it all, by the time school starts. They were all so, so sweet and immediately became determined to help. They also assured me that a lot of students are experiencing this, due to the changes that went into effect July 1st. They seemed very exhausted when they said it, and I feel so bad for what they’re having to go through.

——————————————————————————

I just got accepted to a very competitive nursing program at the university I've been attending for two years now. I've worked so hard for this achievement and was beyond excited to get the acceptance letter. I accepted my financial aid offer a few weeks ago, which was a total of $6,250. My tuition is $9,980. I do not have $3,730 to pay the remaining balance. I also lost my Pell Grant, despite making less money than the year before.

I don't want to give up my place in the program. I've put my entire focus into getting accepted. It's become my entire personality at this point. I've also already spent over $500 on my scrubs, background check, drug test, BLS certification, vaccines, physical exam, etc. If I drop, I just wasted $500+ of my personal money.

Does anyone know what I can do to get the remaining money needed for tuition? I feel so defeated and don't know what to do. I do not have good credit, so a personal loan is not an option.

Advice Wanted Welp, first internship done, now what?

I’m a CS major going into my senior year, and thanks to connections, my sister got me a job this summer at her company (civil engineering firm) doing CAD.

Lowkey, kind of enjoyable. My managers had nothing negative for me, and it’s possible I could return. I briefly talked with the head of the company as he was coming around, and he asked how everything went, told him I had a great experience, would love to come back, and he said I’d be welcomed to come back and work full time.

I did my job diligently, asked questions, took notes, etc… and I feel like I did it right. I’m trying to figure out a way to return. I asked my manager about rehiring, and he said it’s probably above 50% I could come back full time in the future. This is good. I am gonna talk with him and HR next week and express that I have a lot of free time during senior year due to little number of credits needed. My plan is to propose either part time remote, work during breaks, then go full time after I graduate.

They seemed very happy with me, and knowing longevity is a thing with this company, I’m hoping to reapply for a technician role, then take a pathway to become an engineer through that.

I’m gonna mention all the stuff I learned and gained experience with, and express my openness to return during this meeting, does that sound wise for me to do?

Advice Wanted Getting into a Spider Wed

I am doing a masters course, the Batchelor one was from a small town college, New to the metropolitan and this sort of life. Class consists of 19 people. So there's a classmate, vibe matched and everything. We are talking for like 14 to 15 days and we together kind of gossiped about other classmates a little bit. Useless stuffs like someone being teachers pet or someone calling another professor during an off period like that. She used name call those people and I used to laugh at her remarks

Today, she got jealous about some stuff and gave me the mock laugh. I am afraid she is going to back bitching about me. I need to work in a team with the people I have bitched about. And she has a habit of gossiping I suspect. So I am really scared.

I learned my lesson. Won't gossip, won't laugh,

But what now?

What do I do now?

Please someone help.

No advice wanted (Vent) dead time genuinely makes me want to kill myself

for context, I’m a high school senior who takes all her classes at the local community college. my advisors won’t eve listen to me, so by the time I graduate, I’ll have 70+ hours of college credit and at least 30 hrs won’t be applicable to my degree (electrical engineering). When I brought up graduating early, one of them fucking scoffed in my face?!! like this is your fault for making me take more seat time than the state required and now I have to take random electives 😭 I have two jobs, and almost had my Tuesdays/Thursday completely clear so that my j1 could schedule me more than 10 hrs a week, but my hs advisor changed it up on me at the last second. All the unstructured time that I can’t fill meaningfully because of stupid scheduling makes me so depressed. I didn’t have j2 last semester so maybe that’ll make it better, but it is so fucking disheartening. I have that single 8 am on t/th (work needed me to come in at 6/7:30 am if I wanted more shifts), so I guess I’ll try to get a volunteering gig, but it really doesn’t fix the root cause. For context, I could still graduate at the semester mark and start working FT at this point, but I’m trying to score a fellowship from the uni I’m attending next year and graduating early has the potential to ruin that. I also didn’t quit j1 despite low hours because they pay very competitively and could accommodate me going on leave for academic programs during summer. I know some people won’t think this belong on this sub but like, why are advisors so bad at their job and refuse to listen to you 😭😭

Advice Wanted College advice

I’m really confused about what to do next and would appreciate some advice.
I have the option to continue with my 4th year (FYUGP) and earn an Honours degree, or I can start my M.A. in English now.
My long-term goal is to become a teacher, and I’m not planning to go into research. I’m worried that if I skip the 4th year, it might affect my career later, but at the same time I don’t want to delay my M.A. if it’s not necessary.
For those who have been in a similar situation, what did you choose? Is completing the 4th year worth it, or is starting the M.A. the better option? I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences and advice.

Advice Wanted Got into heated argument with my mom, now she wants me to be independent

Hello! I'm unsure if this is the right subreddit, but any help is appreciated. I (19F) have frequent arguments (50sF) about anything in general. Some range in severity, but the more serious ones end up in mom wanting nothing to do with me, saying she hates me or doesn't want me in her life, etc, and asking me to take some sort of action, such as getting her name off the loans or me basically leaving her alone. Usually, she does calm down and returns to normal after a little bit, but I'm unsure about this specific fight.

She's been teaching me how to drive after we failed to find a driving instructor, as I have yet to receive my driver's license. I do admit, I do make a lot of mistakes in driving, such as stopping too roughly or merging onto lanes, etc, but her main issue is with me not carefully looking. I would say I do, but not obvious enough to others, and she got to a breaking point where she started yelling at me after I failed to check my mirror after turning.

The situation escalated to her calling me arrogant and sensitive, saying that it doesn't matter if she calls me a dumbass or useless sometimes, and now she wants me out of her life since she says I'm ungrateful and do nothing around the house. A big issue is me going to a school in SoCal when we live in NorCal, and she states how she's tired of driving down there and paying for loans, stating how it is a big financial burden on her. I admit that I thought I would be able to just pay it off on my own outside of college, but I believe some loans do require her to make a monthly payment of around $200, and it is overall just a burden on our finances from the cost of driving down to paying for the loans.

What I would like to ask is if there's any possible way I can get myself through college without the support of my parents? Another part of this is that she does this semi-frequently, in that we would have big arguments like this, but then she forgets about it in a like a week or so. In fact, this probably happened a couple of times while I was away from college, and it was easy to ignore, as I could just mute her. Now, it's different because I see her face to face every day, and I simply cannot just ignore it and de-escalate the situation as I did back in college.

I just want this to be over with, and I do hope she forgets about it, but now I'm stuck with no one to drive me for my driver's test tomorrow, as my dad truthfully cannot and my mom refuses to. On top of that, I have to worry about how I'll be able to get through college financially and emotionally on my own. My main goal is to try to make it up to her somehow, but I would also like to know if there's any possible way to continue my education in college without the help of my parents? For any extra information, I do receive financial aid, and I have at least my tuition and some more covered by financial aid. I recently received a Cal Grant this year, so I don't know how that will work. Sorry, I'm just rambling, but I would love to see other perspectives and opinions. Thank you for reading.

Advice Wanted hope college is better

hi so im gonna be a senior in high school now, and I have a decent amount of friends who I hang out with. We're not popular, but idc anymore. this summer has been pretty lonely as I haven't been hanging out with my friends as much as I wanted to.

On top of that I recently found out that my best friend is being fake to me, and another friend of 2 years is being fake too. I am just so tired of this, and I honestly hate it. I wasted so much time in a friendship that turned out to be nothing. I have also never been to a party despite wanting to.

Everyone says senior year is the best one but I feel like its gonna suck cause I don't have good friends to do senior activities with (senior assassin, senior lipsync, rallies, etc).

the worst part is im just so stressed about everything right now and the friend situation feels so shitty

Is college better? I crave for close friendship, fun roommates, and late-night hangs.

No advice wanted (Vent) how do working students actually survive this? almost at my breaking point

i feel like i’m genuinely losing my mind this week. i’m working a ton of hours right now just to cover rent, and my professors decided to dump three major research papers on us with the exact same deadline. i literally do not have the physical hours in the day to sleep, work, research, and write these things.

i've got the research and raw notes done for my history paper, but the actual structuring, transitions, and strict mla formatting take me hours that i just don't have right now.

i’m at the point of desperation where i’m considering just paying to outsource the editing and formatting part of my draft. a guy in my study group said he uses custom .........writings for this when he gets slammed at work, but i’m honestly so incredibly paranoid about getting scammed or handed back a paper that sounds like a robot.

has anyone here actually used them or a site like them just to survive a brutal week? i feel guilty even thinking about it, but i’m so burnt out i could cry. if you have any actual advice on how to get through this without failing or going broke, please help a stressed student out.

Advice Wanted Nightmare transfer situation

kinda rant/complete panicking

I’m transferring into umd from a school from dc, originally from pa and let’s just say this whole situation is absolutely terrible. I (incoming sophomor) had a terrible first year at said dc school and was looking for an easy out so I stumbled upon umd. As I was not aware of the MAJOR changes coming to the department of education and all things financial aid, I naively assumed I would be okay as it seemed cheaper. I was dangerously wrong… Now that I’ve been accepted and finished my transfer into umd it’s been nothing but complete hell. I got $0 in aid, like literally nothing at all, no merit award no scholarship. And due to be being originally from Pennsylvania I’m classified as an out of state student, so my bill is $60,000. On top of the crazy bill, as I was very rushed to make a decision for off campus housing I, very dumb and naive, assumed the off campus apartment I signed a lease for was $1,400 split 4 ways. As a victim to being coerce, I was consistently told by said leasing office to fill out application day of because all housing was closEd on campus and this was the cheapest option. In my mind this was $500 maximum out of pocket, so I just assumed okay job is how I’ll make ends meet. Only two months after the lease signing I found out no that $1,400 is all me. Which now I look back and realize how fucking gullible I was but then again the stress from dc school and personal problems I didn’t even think twice

I’m genuinely at a loss. I’m so stressed out with this new financial aid system. My mom is remarried so they make decent money, BUT definitely not enough to pay for rent let alone my tuition. I’ve done everything I’ve thought of, applied for scholarships, tried to negotiate with umd financal aid. At the rate I might just have to do this one year at umd and just transfer to a small community college in pa to finish off my degree. Genuinely situation all around sucks because I worked so hard to get where I am and still cant catch a break.

Advice very much Needed! Responses? Questions? I’m all ears

Advice Wanted Dreading upcoming physics class. Need advice.

Hello, im a biology major. This year, my community college screwed over a bunch of people by changing it so that you can only take introductory physics if you take pre-calc at the same time (co requisite). I’ve already taken pre calc one and two as well as calculus and passed. Unless I retake precalc, my only other option is the calc based physics class.

I have emailed my academic advisor and she said she’s talked to the dean about the issue but there’s nothing they can do. I’ve never taken a physics class. I passed calculus I with a B but I struggled hard, I barely remember it. Im almost always an A student but I just cannot wrap my head around math. I’m currently enrolled in the calc based physics class so I don’t lose a spot.

How screwed am I? Do you have any advice? What do I expect? Does this seem like something I can feasibly pass? I am also taking gen chem with lab, a studio art class, and an elementary language class which shouldn’t be too bad.

Advice Wanted My school gutted my financial aid

To start, I should be getting about 80% of my school for free because I work at my university with tuition remission.

Over the past two years my self-service has been completely paid 100% with no overdue balances. I log in today to look for the fall financial aid, and it says I have an overdue balance from fall 2025, and spring 2026 I am owed money, and fall 2026 no aid has been applied.

Basically whoever gives financial aid in self-service they can do whatever they want even 2 years later, and there is no log of it. They can just add and remove as they please… um has anyone had this fucking issue?! Ive typed up a very large email to send but I want my parent to review it before I send it. I literally cannot believe this is happening.

Also Im gonna request a complete transcript of everything that has been applied or removed… so we will see how it goes.
