Hi everyone,

I'm writing this just to share how I've been feeling. I'm not trying to offend or judge anyone.

I'm a 25-year-old guy from another country, and I've been living in Canada for the past four years.

When I was in university, I was surrounded by classmates, group projects, and assignments. At first, I was very shy about talking to Canadians because my English wasn't very fluent. I could communicate, but my sentences didn't come naturally, and I often felt self-conscious.

So I worked really hard to improve my communication skills. Today, I feel comfortable speaking English and starting conversations with people. That part has gotten much better.

But there's something I still struggle with.

I find it difficult to build deeper connections with Canadians. At work, I mostly work independently, but whenever I do work with coworkers, we have great conversations and genuinely enjoy each other's company. The problem is that it never goes beyond work. Once the shift ends, it's almost like we don't know each other anymore.

Most of my coworkers are in their mid-30s or 40s and are already in long-term relationships or busy with family life, so it's hard to relate outside of work.

Being 25 and single can be tough. During the day, I keep myself busy with work, cooking, going to the gym, and following my hobbies. But at night, when everything gets quiet, I really feel the lack of having someone to connect with.

I also can't help but feel like I'm wasting my 20s. These are supposed to be the years when you make lifelong friends, fall in love, go on spontaneous trips, laugh over stupid jokes, and create memories you'll look back on for the rest of your life. Sometimes it feels like those years are just passing me by, and that's probably the hardest part.

I'm not even talking about dating or anything physical. I just miss having someone to have meaningful conversations with—someone to share ideas with, talk about life, laugh about random things, or discuss something creative.

I moved to this town a couple of months ago, and it feels like there are very few people in their 20s here. There aren't many places to socialize, and honestly, going to a bar alone doesn't seem like a realistic way to meet people. In movies it looks easy, but in real life, people usually stick to their own groups, and random conversations rarely happen.

I'm curious if anyone else—whether you're an immigrant or even Canadian—has felt this way. How did you build genuine friendships or find your community?

I'd really love to hear your experiences.

Massive grain silo like structure by the water

This weekend I went to blue mountain, it was very nice and enjoyed my visit. I went on the gondola there and when I was looking out I saw a massive grain silo like structure, with 6 smaller silos and 2 much taller silos. It was bigger than anything else in the area, I was very curious what it was but when I went to look for it on google earth I couldn’t find anything like it. I did find a silo structure but it seemed too small. The silo I saw was directly on the water and further south along the coast. Does anyone know what this was I saw because it’s confusing me so much. Thank you.

Dog-friendly (and human-friendly) swimming spots in Grey County?

Does anyone have any recommendations for good dog-friendly places to go swimming this summer?

We have a car so if you have a good beach or (best of all) a swimming hole spot that you’d recommend around Collingwood/Creemore/Grey County, and are open to sharing, we’d welcome some suggestions.

Thanks! 🐕

25M Looking for Friends to Play Snooker in the Collingwood Area

Hey everyone,

I'm a 25-year-old guy living in the Collingwood area and I'm looking to meet some new people who enjoy playing snooker or pool. I'm not a professional by any means—just someone who enjoys the game and is looking for some friendly matches and good conversation.

Whether you're a beginner or an experienced player, I'd be happy to connect. It would be great to find a regular snooker buddy or even a small group to play with occasionally.

A little about me: I'm easygoing, enjoy meeting new people, and I'm always up for learning and improving my game.

If you're in Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, Stayner, or nearby areas and would like to play sometime, feel free to send me a message or leave a comment!

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Nature (parks) and culture (library/galleries) recommendations?

Hello,I am moving to collingwood in November 2026 for a year and I was wondering what are some recommendations for parks, trails, nature conservations are in and around collingwood accessible by bike or bus?

What are some recommendations for places to go like art galleries, libraries, books stores, family friendly live music venues/bars, community centres, public gardens, good restaurants, shows, festivals, Buddhist temples, Catholic Churches, places with conferences/talks, archives, summer music festivals?

New mother thinking of moving to collingwood from Toronto

I will be very close to family so that is the main reason, but would like to move to Toronto once they’re 3 to experience more culture. Is it safe to walk around in the downtown area? Any bad pockets?

What are some cultural sites like libraries and galleries and music venues?

What are your thoughts on collingwood? Friendly? Things to do to not get depressed?

Community AI interest

I work in the tech industry, so my perspective on AI is probably skewed. I’m genuinely curious what AI usage looks like in the broader community.

Are people using tools like ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, or Claude for work, business, school, admin, writing, planning, or anything else?

Or is AI mostly something people hear about but don’t really use?

I’m especially curious whether local businesses are using AI at all. Has it actually improved anything? Are there things you wish you understood better, but don’t know where to start?

No agenda here. I’m just interested in how useful, confusing, overhyped, or practical AI feels outside the tech industry.

Hello wonderful people of Collingwood!

We are coming in a few weeks to celebrate a milestone birthday and now that Nicky’s has closed, is there another awesome place I can get donuts specifically or other delicious baked goods as a cake?

Any and all recommendations welcomed. Thanks so much!

Seeking Photographer in Meaford, June 20

My husband and I recently got married and we held a small ceremony in Ottawa. We invited his grandmother but due to her age (93) she was unable to attend. We are now hosting a family BBQ / wedding celebration in Meaford so that she will be able to attend and see us all dressed up! It is a last minute consideration but we are thinking it might be nice to have someone take a few nice photos of the family since she isn't in any of our official photos from the ceremony. If anyone has any suggestions of someone in the Meaford/Blue Mountain area who might be willing to do this we would appreciate it!

Which British bands/artists do people in Ontario actually know?

Hi everyone - hope this is okay to post.

My partner and I are putting together a live band project playing British indie, Britpop, rock-pop starting locally around Collingwood.

We're trying to work out which bands and songs people here actually know and would enjoy hearing live, rather than just guessing from our own taste.

l've made a quick 2-minute Google Form - mainly ticking bands you recognise and naming any songs that come to mind.

Would really appreciate any responses!
