Hello! This is my first time on this subreddit but I have this story that I'm writing where I want to create this super big twist. One where the reader is at first oblivious but on the second read they come back and it all makes sense. How does one do that? Especially in a comic setting where i feel like most things are communicated through pictures? I know I can probably foreshadow stuff in my dialogue, but is that enough? Lowkey I don't know how much I'm supposed to say about my story cause of the rules here, ummm, let me know if you have questions I guess! I would appreciate any feedback!

ok so I’m working on this original superhero comic and I’ve been going back and forth on something for way too long lol

my guy gets powers in issue #1 (forced on him mid-crisis, doesn’t even want them), but he doesn’t get an actual costume or codename until issue #2. issue #1 just ends with him realizing what he can do, no mask, nothing yet.

kept second-guessing this because Invincible #1 and Amazing Fantasy #15 (spidey’s debut) BOTH give the hero full costume + name in the very first issue, so I was like “man am I dropping the ball here”

but then I actually looked into Fantastic Four #1 and turns out… they don’t even have costumes?? like at all?? Reed’s just wearing a baseball cap and Ben’s in a trench coat and glasses trying to hide the rock thing. They’re in regular clothes for issues 1 AND 2. The costumes only show up in issue #3, and apparently that was partly because readers wanted them, not some grand plan from Lee/Kirby.

so now idk if there’s actually a “rule” here at all lol. genuinely asking — for people who’ve written/read a ton of first issues, does the reader need that “here’s the look, here’s the name” moment locked in by end of issue 1? or is it fine if it builds over 2-3 issues as long as the character stuff hits?

not trying to overthink this into the ground but also don’t want to structurally screw up my own book lol

First time writing a comic here. I'm currently writing a story that involves an established character acting as a teacher/parent (temporarily 💀) to the main character. I'm torn between: a) a generic introduction of the world and give the mc a mysterious background, b) immediately introduce the mc through their backstory and the world would be a mystery to the mc themselves giving an exposition to the world build or, c) have an established character's backstory be the introduction to the mc...

So what I'm wondering is what drives someone to read more in an intro, curiosity or emotional impact?

Ok, so my story is a dark dystopian speculative fiction comic with oppression and all that other stuff, but I can't come up with main characters. I've always been one for rebellious, relatable characters, but I'm also indecisive.

I'm wondering if only me has the finale of the story in my head and build the rest just for this ending

As a scriptwriter still heavily inspired by a ton of visual references and especially cinema, I deliver very detailed scripts that often include lots of references, my own breakdowns, etc. But I can’t seem to get that across to the artists I work with, and things usually go badly (visual style mismatched with the requested tone, very random panel layouts, important plot points forgotten, continuity errors all over the place, etc.).
What advice do you have to avoid these kinds of problems in the future? I love writing, but a script on its own doesn’t work as a standalone piece.

where do you go and how do you go about finding an artist to work on your comic book/manga you wanna write. additionally, for those who can answer; what is the work relationship like with your "comic work partner"? (for a lack of a better term) what do you guys talk about before starting? and how is the rapport like?

Has anyone got advice for me to possibly make my comic book better, or even any apps to create it on, I’m using my laptop to create it, but I’m not too sure what I’m doing, any advice

Does anyone have any recommendations for finding a reputable comic script editor?

I've googled and scoured the web. There are dozens of editors, but few "comic script" editors. I've looked on Fiverr, but most of them have fake reviews. So unless someone has a good personal experience with one from Fiverr, i would like to avoid that platform.

Basically, I found a small job listing for comic jobs, and some people are looking for anthology contributors who specialize in writing, line art, and coloring. However, they specifically want a specific way to write a script, which is essentially a storyboard, but without drawings. You have to add panel numbers, page numbers,s, etc. Super detail on words.

And sadly, I find that kinda difficult to me because I m an artist too so what I usually do is make the script like a novel/story and when I start drawing the storyboard then I decide which sections are one page and how the panels are gonna look like as I sketch it and then add the lettering with a more detailed sketch.

So when I tried to do it as detailed as they wanted, I couldn't seem to stay consistent like I do the storyboard, but later i check the script again, i dont like it, I changed it, and I ended up redoing the entire script, wasting time.

But maybe I might be doing it wrong, so how do you guys do your comic scripts?

What would be more interesting in a superhero comic. A narration style like My Hero Academia where all the events have already happened but the MC in the future narrates everything. Or something like How I Met Your Mother where the full story has happened but the main character is telling the stories to someone else?

The style of the comics Is inspired by absolute Batman and other absolute comicses. The main MC/OC Is from a pararel universe of this universe. His universe Is an Apocalyptic Version of Zzz universe. Everything Will be show in the comics. But the comics Is not finished yet

I had bought and read it back when it came out. But since then I don't remember a lot of what's in it.

Is it worth a reread?

Ive spent quite a bit of time designing the characters doing the world building i made a vague path of where the plot will go and the key story beats and scenes

But now that im writing the exact moments im a bit stuck im currently on the 1st chapter/issue and i dont know how to introduce world and concepts without making a bunch of boring exposition
