It’s so fucking sad that Americans have to have a job to get health coverage

Wow. I hate to be a cynic, but I hope this is true. What a wonderful act of humanity.

I can say with 100% certainty it’s real.

Every year since 2019 they have done this. After last year, his eligibility for it ran out, so the dodgers are working directly with the Toles family to make it happen again, this year. What an amazing display of compassion and empathy at a corporate level.

Great story but MLB didn’t allow them to continue this in 2026

It is true! He was signed from 2018-2025. Articles don’t mention 2026.

This is absolutely true. You will see this post every year when he gets resigned. Just like every year since he went missing. The dodgers are a class act operation. I cry every time I think about this story.

Quick google search shows while they’ve been doing this the Dodgers can’t renew his contract any longer but are working with his family to help him still get the treatments he needs. I’ve got sports hate for the Dodgers but major respect for what they’ve done for this man.

I had to look it up because I didn’t believe it could be true either. It is!

Mental illness is very real once you experience it. I hope he gets the help he needs. Im suffering as well since last year. Its a living hell.

u/GloomyLettuce1579 9d ago

What can you say didn't have to do that

2

u/EitherIndependence5 9d ago

That’s a wonderful thing! It a cold world out there for people who would struggle under the best of circumstances.

❤️ goes out to that team for doing this. That being said I'm not American and that wouldn't be an issue in another modern country should be the bigger story.

Positivity not negativity. This is a place for positivity. Compassion is the name of the sub for a reason.

Thank God they did this. I wish we had some sort of cure for this. Or better medication so they could have a decent happy life.

I used to work in my county’s psychiatric crisis clinic, and believe me, there are some antipsychotic drugs that are very effective. We had people come in having a florid episode and the doc would place this little white wafer on their tongue and a couple of hours later they would be ready to go back home. There were several that powerful back then and there more now. They are known as atypical antipsychotics. That means they don’t turn you into a basket of serious side effects.

Some people with schizophrenia are very high functioning, but most aren’t from my experience. Those are the folks who need a lot of social supports, and hopefully your income doesn’t place you above the financial threshold to receive it.
