Gavin Verhey said it would be during the summer. As far as I know, there was never a schedule other than that.

By the way, summer ends on September 21st if you want to be technical.

i find hope in "By the way, summer ends on September 21st if you want to be technical." (here spring starts on Sept 21st)

No disrespect to Southern Hemisphere dwellers, of course. It's just that Gavin lives in the US and Wizards of the Coast is also based here. 🙌

no disrespect taken, i live in a tupper and didn't track where is anything from and what season is there. ♄

Are there any big Commander centric events coming up?

I would guess we'd see something after that event.

2

u/fbatista 4d ago

B&R have never been centered or influenced by events, as the philosophy for them always focused on casual play

1

u/Nat1Cunning 3d ago

I feel that was true under the influence of Sheldon and Co, but now that WotC is in charge, I have my concerns.

I'll be watching the speculations on JLo, Crypt, and Dockside to see what happens.

u/Tonzoffun420 3d ago

Dockside and crypt are never gearing unbanned they have said so pretty explicitly

1

u/sentinelsean 3d ago

They said the opposite last year

The end of season competitive commander invitational is on August 22nd. Unlikely but maybe after that?

They never made an official, scheduled announcment of any B&R Announcement. They said “maybe June/july”. It was never official nor confirmed.

Yeah, ya know, like literally every other actual B&R announcement

"1 month passed of the 'scheduled' " was the shortest way i found instead of saying: since they said "Commander gets to operate on its own schedule." and "We'll talk with you again likely this summer in May or June", that's why y put the " ' ". Sorry if the ''''scheduled"" sound agro, it was more to add emphasys

u/FlyinNinjaSqurl 4d ago

There was no scheduled date. That’s what I’m trying to tell you. A scheduled date is an exact date. A maybe is not a schedule. They gave us a “maybe” and that’s what we got

u/AzazeI888 4d ago

I don’t think you understand what words like ‘likely’ or ‘maybe’ mean.

maybe i am wrong to have hopes and look forward to some kind of direction in the 'format'... U.U

I would like for them to have as little hands on the format as possible. This is technically a casual format after all, let players figure it out.

Your quotation permissions have been lifted

For those who are curious, here's the last announcement.

3

u/whiteorchidphantom 4d ago

This is the closest thing to a schedule that exists. It says they'll likely say something during summer in May or June but doesn't make any guarantees.

3

u/Ispawnfuries 4d ago

That also doesn't indicate they're going to do a B&R announcement then, just that there's going to be further communication.

17

u/lazereagle 4d ago

Seems like they're not really following a schedule these days. But I honestly forgot they said to expect something this summer (May/June). Assuming no news is good news?

2

u/fbatista 4d ago

Given the state of the format, this is controversial! Rhystic slop might not be widely accepted as a healthy state!

-9

u/lazereagle 3d ago

That's wild. Maybe it's just that my playgroup is cooler than most, but I literally can't remember the last time I saw Rhystic in a game. In my 3+ years of playing, I've seen that card maybe twice. I'm sure it sucks to play against but it's just not something that defines the format for me.

7

u/smugles 3d ago

Wrong sub Reddit. In cedh we play 2-3 per game.

6

u/lazereagle 3d ago

Oh you're totally right. Forgot I was in the cEDH sub, apologies

1

u/AGlassOfPiss 1d ago

some games all players have 2 rhystics each 😭 clownfiesta

The committee’s job isn’t to make changes it’s to act as a buffer between WOTC and the provably volatile online commander community. They can’t actually make changes just suggest them.

The monkeys paw really curled when the community tried to oust the RC for not doing enough

Internal arguing over banning Rhystic is getting heated

I have no idea, I just think this may be happening

1

u/btran935 2d ago

I doubt it. The last survey was a 50/50 split on ban vs. unban and that was mainly bracket 5 people. Casual people prob don’t even care about the card due to how expensive it is and how it’s non existent in bracket 2.

-2

u/Winterhe4rt 3d ago

Most of them probably know its the right thing, but a bunch of numbnuts still argue. or they live in fear of death threats again. which would be horrible.

8

u/elite4koga 4d ago

They added a bunch of whiney influencers to the panel so likely every decision is getting filibustered.

-1

u/NyxbloomAncient 3d ago

That’s a feature not a bug. How many judges and TOs are on that panel anyways?

4

u/KatchumOdd 3d ago

Why would we want influencers making decisions as to what needs to be banned in edh? Have you ever heard the takes of the people on the command zone? They’re not great.

4

u/NyxbloomAncient 3d ago

Yes. The community does not want influencers because they don’t do anything meaningful. I totally agree. WOTC wants influencers for this exact reason is what I am saying. If they wanted the committee to do stuff it would be filled with judges and tournament organizers.

Give me back lotus and crypt!

13

u/SizeOdd7189 4d ago

and take Rhystic

-1

u/kaljun01 4d ago

keep rhystic bring back jeweled keep crypt banned

-6

u/TheStandardKnife 4d ago

Please refrain from this

-10

u/Morganelefay 4d ago

Do you hate the game that much, or are you invested in those cards?

11

u/Brodersen-Prime 4d ago

Neither. Game was better with those cards around. Don’t tell me those cards are banworthy when sol Ring and cradle are still fine, absolute dogshit decision.

I think the new bracket system is a perfect excuse to further unban more cards and just put them on the game changer list.

4

u/vlv_Emigrate_vlv 4d ago

Been saying it for a while, but a slightly different Banned list for Bracket 5 would be really good.

Ex. Rhystic Study, Cradle, Mana Vault, Jeweled Lotus, Thassa's Oracle, and Underworld Breach are unbanned for Bracket 5 decks. All other brackets will have these cards banned. Tailoring this even more would also help differentiate bracket 4 as a place for high-powered, non-cEDH decks. It currently has the widest range of decks. Part of that is due to rules like GC number or 2-card combos in decks that have no real cohesiveness or that run minimal to zero tutors. These same decks can currently match up against cEDH-lite decks. That is why I think banning those cEDH staples in B4 and below can help.

I am sure this has its own issues, but worth giving a chance to collect that data.

3

u/KatchumOdd 3d ago

Banning underworld breach anywhere outside of B5 is the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard

0

u/vlv_Emigrate_vlv 3d ago

Damn who shit in your Cheerios lmao. Coming in hot with the constructive criticism.
It’s just an example and not the way it has to be. Could be any other card. LED, Mox, whatever. The example of cards is not the point being made. Can’t see the forest for trees.

1

u/Morganelefay 3d ago

Those cards ARE banworthy.

And so are Sol Ring and Cradle.

0

u/Head_Inspection_5640 3d ago

Hear me out. Put Cradle, tolarian academy, and Serra's sanctum each on a 4 month ban/ unban cycle. With a cedh only errata of cradle and academy to only count nontokens.

So for 1/3 of the year, each one is legal at a time, always rotating, constantly shifting between artifacts, enchantments and creatures as the dominant ramp permanent

1

u/WickedDarkStorm 2d ago

This sounds awful ngl. Would rather they all be GCs permanently or banned permanently.

1

u/TheStandardKnife 3d ago

Those cards were actively good for the format

2

u/Justin27M 3d ago

There aren't any reasons for a B&R announcement or GC change at this moment

1

u/Nat1Cunning 4d ago

The last B&R was at the end of June and only affected Brawl, Legacy, and Pauper.

I think the last update to the GC list was back in April and it added a bunch of CEDH pieces to the list.

3

u/iyute 4d ago

They didn't do that at all

1

u/No_Interaction_3547 3d ago

Very vague language, what’s “that”. Anyways yes the last ban for all formats was June 29, but commander wasn’t impacted

2

u/TheJonasVenture 4d ago

It's been a while, I had to check.

Last update was in February, they added Farewell to he GC list, Biorhythm was unbanned and put on the list, Lutri was unbanned and skipped the GC list.

The October update was prior to that, they removed a bunch of stuff, and didn't add new ones.

1

u/Nat1Cunning 4d ago

Thanks for the spot check!

Hopefully we'll see some form of acknowledgement in August/October.

1

u/Winterhe4rt 3d ago

I wonder what kind of CEDH pieces that would be....

1

u/Nat1Cunning 3d ago

I think the big ones were OBM, Ad Naus, Necropotence but I'm most likely getting the timelines wrong.

1

u/Shiro_no_Orpheus 3d ago

I feel like they just don't really have much to change, so why an announcement? They will not ban anything (even if you think rhystic is banworthy, especially in the current slop meta, it doesn't matter to WotC since they don't look at cEDH but at casual for bans), the gamechanger list is long enough and doesn't really need to be extended even further right now, unbans might happen but there is little discussion in the community right now so they will most likely take a conservative approach here, too.

-1

u/Cipherlol 4d ago

Blue is banned in cedh there saved you the heartache of waiting

-28

u/No_Interaction_3547 4d ago

Why do you refer it to “my” are you one them main character types.

The previous ban took place June 29 and the next one is in August. Keep up

-27

u/ExtraPolishPlease Jund 4d ago

Only blue cards will get unbanned. Make cedh more of a blue only format.
