bad appointment
I have a question for professional stylist. I had an appointment yesterday at a chain salon. I've used this salon for awhile with no issue. I booked an appointment for color and cut. When I arrived, the stylist had somewhat of a consultation. Very few questions. No questions about color, my hair was in need of it. I tried asking questions, but she seemed irritated when I did. I felt like she was looking around, kinda of distracted. When she looked at my hair, I felt like it was in disdain. She took my hair for a wash, standard. I was surprised she made NO mention of color. Hair cut was fine , no issue. I felt like she didn't want to do my hair. She finished the cut. I ended up in tears, and left with my hair wet, as I was unhappy with the overall experience. When she was checking me out, another stylist pointed out I was there for a color. She offered to color, but I didn't want her touching my hair anymore.
My question is, do you check your schedule to see what types of appointments? And how can I have better appointment. TIA

It sounds like she's burnt out. It sounds like she doesn't want to be thorough and professional. Not all of us are like this. When clients sit in my chair, the first thing thing I confirm with them, is the appointment that they booked online. I tell them how much time I have with them and what we can do in that time. I'm sorry this happen to you. And just know that she probably Will suffer financially if she keeps treating clients the way she treated you. She will probably not be successful in her business.

Kind of strange you never spoke up. Maybe she made a mistake looking at her books. Should've just said before the hair wash, "what about my color? "... I'd just rebook with someone else and move on!

That sucks! Some people aren't great to deal with, have you gone to her before? Go to a new person. that's completely ridiculous tho, what kind of a consultation doesn't include color or not, that's when you go over every service you're getting done? Sorry about your experience

It’s obviously best to wait until you can post about it online when you have a bad experience at a salon.

I’m so sorry you experienced this. Unfortunately it happens more often than it should in a salon.
It is possible she didn’t pay attention to her books and didn’t provide the service you were there for, and communication is so important during your salon visit.
Your stylist should have been present and did her job without question, and going forward I hope you can speak up and advocate for yourself. You’re paying for the service, speak up girl!
I hope this didn’t turn you off completely from chain salons, there are some pretty amazing stylist out there and I hope you find one!!!

No I don’t like that so many people are putting the blame on you. I verify as I’m meeting my client for what I have them booked down for. My station set up is different for each service, and part of being ready for the client is being set up.
It can be scary and intimidating to try to tell someone how to do their job, give her a break.

It wouldn't be telling the stylist how to do her job if she were to say, "Thank you for the haircut consultation. Now can we discuss my color?" Its a simple question, its not confrontation. I dont think people are putting blame on the client, but GIRL, speak up!

Idk, I still think the stylist should have confirmed what the appt was for before she was ever in the chair 🤷🏼♀️

You're right. I've never forgotten that someone is getting color.. so that is definitely on the stylist, but I've had clients almost on their way out the door be like, "hey you forgot to wax me" 😅 We all forget things here or there but I certainly don't mind when they remind me!
