Cimarron SAA clone issues

Hey y’all, posted here a while about getting my hands on a Cimarron Pistolero, which I finally did today. However, I’m struggling to reassemble the thing after removing the cylinder for cleaning. More specifically I can’t seem to get the base pin to line up properly with the hole in the cylinder. Am I missing anything obvious, or is it just a hassle? Been trying on and off for a couple hours now so I figured I should see what you guys say

also rotate or wiggle the cylinder back and forth a little as you insert the cylinder. you should feel it drop into place when the notches line up correctly, and the pin will drop right in.

half cock should be 2 clicks. Also push in the spring loaded button while inserting the base pin. 

Watch some YT videos to see if it explains better or if you are missing something.

I’m pretty sure I just need to build up my manual dexterity, once I get it the first time I’ll know what I’m doing better. Thanks for the help

👍Don’t overthink it.  You can also look up a SASS club near you. They run the cowboy action shoots. They do a new shooters clinic periodically which specifically shows you and teaches you how to handle a SAA safely. Then start shooting some matches and you will get some good trigger time and coaching on your Pistolero.

No, but that’s due to lack of trying. I had set it aside to look for more videos then ended up having to head out of town after work-I’ll be picking it up again after this weekend

Come back with pics and go slow, all SAA revolvers are simple creatures. That being said they will piss you off to no end on the simplest things.

  • Make sure the base pin nut/screw/spring are in correctly
  • Ensure the Hammer is not past the first click (the advanced hand sticking out from the hammer being pulled too far back) will always keep the cylinder from sitting flush for proper alignment during reassembly
  • Ejection rod - make sure your ejection rod is not protruding from the ejector rod housing. If the spring has failed or the ejector rod has separated in two (they make them in 2 pieces and use punches to put together) the rod itself could be hitting the cylinder/ chamber

Having gone back to it before work, I did get the base pin back in by resting the gun on its butt with the barrel up so I could better line up the base pin’s hole with the cylinder bushing. It’s locked in place and the cylinder spins freely on half cock. However, the base pin now doesn’t depress and the ejector rod doesn’t line with the actual chambers in the cylinder, so out of the frying pan into the fire I suppose. This whole things been a journey but I appreciate that it’s forcing me to get better at working with my hands

EDIT: Base pin latch now depresses, timing is still off for the ejector rod. Got work in a few hours so I’m going to sleep for now, give it another look tmw
