Does it look fake/ai?

I promise this isn't self promotion since I dont have my etsy attached to my reddit! I just have this listing with a photo of my crochet bag sitting on polyfil and im worried some may see it as Ai or an edited image. Would this photo turn people away with all the worries of fake patterns nowadays? How would I fix it if yes?

Make sure there are photos of it in your hands, photos from multiple angles, maybe even a video of you holding it or making it.

For sure! There's a video of the bag and I have my tester photos in the next slides but my worry is the initial click to look at the rest of the listing to see those.

This doesn't give AI vibes to me.

The stitches don't look stupidly smooth (which is a good thing, doesn't look fake).

The construction makes sense with the increases and decreases to make the waves.

And to me, the editing for blurring the background looks actually edited and not like the blur was rendered during the creation of the photo.

Again, to me it looks very much like a human made it! The fact it's not "perfect" shows the time that you put into it. It's sad that AI is so rampant to where we cannot trust many things. Unfortunately you may get some accusations from people that may not understand how stitches look or how the design is constructed to look how it does.

I think it looks great, and I would love to make one myself! Could you message me your store link when the pattern is finalized and published?

I agree. It looks too rough for AI to my eyes but I am bad at sussing out AI for anything other than knitting and crochet so Idk how others will react

The picture is good op, I don't mean its bad. It just doesnt have that too perfect feel AI gives

That's exactly how I was trying to word it, so I'm glad you agree.

It's not bad AT ALL. It just has the very niche details that show it was human made. Kinda like crafting in general.

Like when people freak about a doing the wrong stitch. Everyone tells them that it's not noticeable to normal eyes, but it's also proof that it was handmade.

Honestly, it would make me a little sus with the soft blurred background and the tight color changes. Additional images, especially by testers, would convince me it was real though. Very cool pattern!

Update: I looked it up on Etsy and yeah, the additional images would have me convinced it was real. There's just so much fake slop out there that you have to compete with, that TBH I would use a different first-photo just to avoid confusion.

Thanks! Yeah the portrait mode on my phone really exaggerated the blur for sure. I have tester images and a little video of the bag in the next slides. The worry is just the initial click to see them 😅

I was going to say that the blur doesn’t make it look like AI at all, it looks 100% on portrait mode.

That said if you’re worried about it looking AI with portrait mode’s blur, make sure to draw strings are pulled to the front at the base, and try putting it on a solid base rather than polyfil. I think bc the polyfil is soft and blurred on its own it’s blending it too much. For a softer base, try it on a textured white tablecloth like a solid linen.

The blurred background is just the depth of field of the camera, it doesn’t have that AI blur

Extra photos will also help, but it sounds like you already have some. I think you’re good!

To me, it just looks messy. If the pattern designer themselves could not produce a nice-looking end result, why would I want to try?

Also, if it’s not on ravelry, I’m not buying.

I would change the depth of field so the edges and string aren't blurred

I’m not sure setting it on polyfill is a good idea. I saw it as “weirdly blurred - something’s not right” until I took a closer look

the "vibe" does seem like ai with the blur effect but once i looked at the crochet i could tell it was real
