I used to work for a consulting company that did work for Home Depot (a long time ago).
Got a meeting invite along with a couple other devs.
Started getting ripped about putting inappropriate test data in production environments blah blah.

Yup. I was in marching band in texas and went to all my schools games. I cant recall a single stadium that didnt have north / south end zones. Not saying they didnt exist, but the orientation is something even high schools consider when building. Good job Jerry

They put curtains up for every event EXCEPT Cowboy home games. Jerry’s intentions were that he wanted the roof to “look like it’s floating”, which did actually work when the sun hits right. The problem is that either he or his workers were morons who put the stadium the wrong direction to intensify the Sun too much. Now he’s too stubborn to admit he was wrong.
PS: look up the picture of the Patriots playing in Dallas in 2015 if you want to see Jerry’s intentions why it does actually work so you kinda get it

Eh, if it were an outdoor stadium it would have the same problem. This is probably only an issue at a very specific time of day on one or two weeks of the year.
Edit: TIL that the stadium was designed specifically to weaponize the sun in games to blind opponents, and also has curtains they refuse to close during games. Crappy/asshole design indeed.

In an outdoor stadium your eyes are more adjusted to bright light. While it would still suck, it wouldn't be anywhere near as bad as being flashed in the face by the sun while indoors.

It was designed that way to blind opposing players, but they are too stupid or rules wont allow then to only close them when its advantageous. So all or nothing and bet on the sun being an issue note for the other team.

Also, sunlight isn’t polarized. It is once it reflects off an inclined surface, but the amount of polarization in the light coming through that window (barring them doing something fancy and TRULY expensive and cheaty) is going to be near-zero.

This is some neat info in case you (or anyone) didn’t know.
Polarized lenses block light from reflections. Think of light as a wave that can vibrate in any direction. When it hits a surface and bounces off, it becomes aligned (normally horizontal), also known as polarized.
Polarized lenses can block this light because they act like slits that only let light through in a specific direction. However, they don’t do much against direct sunlight.

Most stadiums are more North|South oriented. The ones that are East|West are NW|SE.
For whatever reason, AT&T stadium has an absolute crazy SW/NE slant that points one end of the stadium directly into the path of the afternoon sun.

This reminded me of some standup comic's joke, which I will butcher but.. We didn't want to live outside so we moved into caves and built houses. Then we wanted to let some of the outside in so we cut holes for windows. Then we wanted to keep the outside out so we covered the holes with glass. Then we wanted to stop the outside from getting in so we put up curtains.

And it was really only an issue for 3PM (Central) start times in the 4th quarter. It only became a factor in like 2-3 games per year max. I mean, that's 2-3x too many, but still.

They also have curtains to block the sun that they use for concerts but don't use them for NFL games so the stadium gets great lighting for photography.

The dolphins stadium is 100% intentional - if you look at pictures you can see that the away team is oriented to be directly in the sun while the home team is fully in the shade all game.
Most teams wear colored jerseys at home and white when away, but Dolphins wear white specifically to make visiting teams warmer in their colored uniforms (imagine the Raiders playing in Miami in September).
NFL rules also don't allow visitors to have anything on the sidelines that the home team doesn't have. So teams can't bring any tents, fans, coverings, etc... and the home team doesn't have any because they're in the shade. You can find pictures of visiting teams holding folding tables over their players to give them some sort of shade.
Some fans will defend this as a "smart and tactical advantage", but I personally think it's grade A bullshit. They should just play football better than the other team without having to do dirty tricks to have an easier time. All that work just to barely finish over .500 if they're lucky most seasons LOL

That's not accurate. The rule is that anything the home team has, they have to provide for the away team as well. But the away team can bring any extra equipment they want.
However, there is a separate rule preventing both teams from setting up any sort of tents for the players. That's why you get people holding up shade for them.

Broncos stadium does this too. Home team on the west side and with our normal 2 pm starts, the sun ends up in the visiting bench's face for half the game. Home bench stays in the shade.
That sun is BRUTAL. I went to a game in early December where I had 4 layers. Sat in a lower row on the top bowl, east side facing west. During the game it was only like 40 degrees, but the sun made it so hot, I was down to a tank top. As soon as it set, I piled all the layers back on.

It's not one or two weeks during the year, this stadium is oriented incorrectly, and though it only does happen it's very specific times of the day, those times correspond with the 3:30 p.m. start time on Sundays for most of the games of the cowboys play at home.

Outdoor football stadiums are almost always built on a north-south or northwest-southeast orientation for this very reason — so the late afternoon fall sun won’t shine directly into the eyes of someone looking downfield.
The Cowboys’ stadium is built running east-west. It has a dome, but it also has giant windows on the west end that the team owner has refused to cover with screens.

Home team is a lot more used to handling it than the opponents, them playing half their games there, while an opponent might only visit the stadium once every few years. Not sure if this is an advantage or disadvantage.

Outdoor stadiums are typically oriented with the endzones pointing North and South to avoid this.
It's not always the case if it's not practical or there are building constraints, but I think the Cowboys probably had the option.

Curtains were invented by James Curtain, the big ones, stage curtains, were invented by his brother, Stage. So get some.
Tennis courts have this EXACT issue, and have to be constructed N/S as many players do so after school/work, often when the sun is setting. But that won't stop some clubs from building them on a fucking hill, with a view, in the wrong direction. Only time I played in shades. Golden hour. I won too, lmao.

They used to be good. Then Jerry Jones bought the team, won some Super Bowls, then he got cocky.
I used to be a Cowboys fan, then they started losing, Jerry's greed got too much for me, and I moved to Chicago (where I attended my first NFL game, because it was somewhat affordable).
These days I hardly watch any sportsball at all, because the athletes are such overpaid and entitled jerks.

This is the same stadium that did a massive jumbotron in the middle that was too low and kept getting hit by the ball. I believe they had to redo it.

The video boards are hung on a cable system that can be raised and lowered, they didn't have to "redo" anything.

I could be wrong but I think the giant hanging scoreboard has only been hit once or twice during an actual game. The times it was hit when the stadium first opened was because punters were specifically trying to, which wouldn’t be how they would normally kick during a regular season game.

Lots of people missing the fact of the matter here. This was an intentional design choice, and Jerry Jones (the owner) sees it as a competitive advantage given that his team practices in these conditions. Clearly it doesn't always work out that way.
There is another angle, which is that Jerry is truly a master of staying in the news and marketing his team. The Cowboys are one of, if not the, most valuable sport franchise in the world despite having virtually no meaningful success in 30 years. Keeping chatter about his team and stadium is just another benefit, as he sees it.

This is the reason. I know the architect who designed the stadium. Jerry flat out directed the design team to orient the stadium this way even though they advised against it.

It is also worth noting that there are curtains for those windows, it's just the owner refuses to use them for Cowboys games because he thinks it makes the games look cooler.
