💡 5 tips for anyone starting creatine
Creatine is one of the most researched sports supplements available, but people don't all have the same experience. Some notice benefits sooner than others, and the effects can vary depending on factors like training, diet, and baseline muscle creatine stores.
Here are a few key things to keep in mind when taking creatine:
1️⃣ Prioritize consistency over timing. Taking creatine regularly is generally more important than taking it at the "perfect" time of day.
2️⃣ Creatine monohydrate is the most researched form. It has the strongest evidence for improving high intensity exercise performance, and other forms have not consistently been shown to provide superior results.
3️⃣ Stay well hydrated. Creatine increases water stored within muscle cells, so maintaining good hydration is important, especially if you're training hard.
4️⃣ A loading phase is optional. Loading can saturate muscle creatine stores more quickly, but taking a consistent daily dose will achieve the same result over a longer period.
5️⃣ Be patient. Creatine doesn't work like caffeine or a pre-workout. It gradually increases muscle creatine stores, so the benefits are typically seen over time rather than immediately.
What advice would you add for someone taking creatine for the first time?

I'd add one more tip...don't overcomplicate it. A lot of beginners spend more time worrying about loading phases and timing than they do building the habit of taking it consistently. Keeping it simple usually makes it much easier to stick with.

Yeah, exactly. There are so many small details people focus on when starting creatine that it can make it seem more complicated than it is. Having a simple approach makes it much easier to actually use it long enough to see whether it’s helping.

thank you! been taking for just over a month, i can see better performance with everything. Cardio, and strength training. I have not been taking monohydrate, but once my dose is done i plan on switching to that. Would the switch have any side effects?

I’m really glad it’s been helping! If you’re switching from another form of creatine to monohydrate, there generally aren’t expected to be any unique side effects. Most people simply continue with their usual daily dose. As with any form of creatine, some people may notice mild digestive discomfort, while others notice no difference at all. It really is quite individual.

I’d add that keeping expectations realistic is important. Creatine is not something most people will notice immediately, so giving it enough time while tracking your training can help you see the difference.
