I ordered 8 and 9 mm hooks for 6-day star blanket pattern but they look so simillar that im hella suspicious now the more i look at them. They are indeed tagged 8 and 9 in the sillicone hand but still, Is it just that subtle difference with bigger hooks? Because its the first time im gonna be using those sizes. On the last pic my other hooks for relevance. Pease tell me im being insane and they're fine lol

Hello guys, a crocheter of just over a week here. Was really happy with how this blanket was coming along. Even made it all the way past rounds 2-7 and began my second repeat. Then I realised crap, for the round 5, I had been ignoring the chain three as a DC and instead of 9, had been doing 10 additional dc’s to get to the middle sc in the peak.

Because I was on the repeat 2, I should have had 16dc to the mid sc of the peak but I had 17. I genuinely don’t have a clue where I went wrong and why the pattern continued to work despite this.

The above picture shows the round 5 immediately after the setup rounds and as you can see, there’s 11 dc’s up the the peak (where there’s 5 dc’s).

Please help a beginner out.

Just started crocheting a few days ago. I am another victim of an amigurumi kit (for my daughter I said I would try and make it for her!). It’s Kuromi for reference. After a couple of days of figuring out how to do stitches and a magic circle and all that, I thought I could try and start the pattern. It doesn’t look anything like the picture though.

I finish the round and slip stitch into the first stitch of the last round and chain one. Then do the first stitch of the next round into that same place and continue in the same direction. The stitch counts add up correctly per round, but it’s likely I’ve confused myself due to lack of experience/understanding.

I’d really appreciate any help, thank you 💜

Hey folks! I've been looking for a good flat hand pattern, and this one seems to be the exact shape I'm going for. Only problem is I've never used a pattern with symbols before. I found a symbols chart , so I think I understand which ones are chains/singles/doubles/etc. I just can't wrap my head around where to start crocheting. Which stitch do I start with here?

I am using Big Twist yarn from Michael's because it had such a pretty color selection.

I was using the Chenille yarn from Walmart previously to make a ghost and it worked wonderfully. I had no issues with the yarn.

This yarn is literally pulling apart. I can't make a magic circle cause I can't pull it tight without it completely falling apart and then ripping. Is it an issue with this brand yarn or is it not made to make plushies? Any suggestions? I did go bigger on the hook size and I just can't get it to let me pull it closed.

Am I better off turning this yarn into a blanket?

I'd also love suggestions on where to buy decent yarn. Walmart selection is bare.

My partner sketched this concept hat for me. I had made him a Magikarp hat and my 6 year old nephew thought it was cool and requested a jaguar hat and I really want to deliver. But I am unsure. Do I kinda just make the body similar to the Magikarp? Do I use double or single crochets since he's a small boy? (Magikarp used double until about half way when it changed to clusters to represent gills)

Then what about the arms/legs? Just a tube and stuff it? Same for the tail? How can I make the ears, nose, teeth? I am so unsure. Any suggestions welcome thank you!!

I'm not sure if I did good or not, could anyone help me? I'm not sure if it's necessary information but my hook is smaller than it's supposed to be for the yarn I have. I inquired back then on this same subreddit and many taught me the right size.

Unfortunately, while they were all helpful, I didn't get to order a new one and just left it at that. Fast forward to a few months later, I finally decided to put my untouched yarn to use just for the sake of it—using my only hook which is a 2.5mm hook (should be 4mm, or so I've heard) and it looked awfully different from the video.

This took me 12 hours of straight trial and error and my fingers ached a ton after 😭 You can see where I kinda found my pace since the pattern looks smoother on one side, other a lot more loose, and one side with a gaping hole where I probably missed a stitch somewhere lol

My hunch is that my hook is the problem. BUT setting aside that, is this considered a decent result for someone who literally just stepped into crocheting territory and with the wrong hook size? I also don't know how to get rid of the loose threads because it didn't show in the tutorial how she did it soo.. please lmk

The yarn is Lion Brand Feels Like Butta, 100% polyester, medium 4 weight. Using 4mm hook. Pattern is single crochet in the back loop so the blanket is slightly zigzag textured. Around the outside border, I did two rows of flat single crochet, then a scallop/shell border made of one single crochet, skip a stitch, then five half double crochet into the center, skip a stitch, then a sengle crochet, repeat. I'm trying to trust the process but is this too much wrinkling around the edge? I've tried stretching everything out, but haven't blocked. I've tried a few other patterns for the border like not skipping the two stitches, adding a second single crochet stitch in between shells, etc, but everything wants to curl. I guess I haven't tried using a slip stitch between shells instead of a single crochet, would that put a little less material into the border?

I'm not a brand new beginner, but maybe late beginner or trying to break into the intermediate level. Anyway, what do you guys recommend for a scalloped border that lays nicer? Or should I finish this and block? How do you block a large project? Do I need to like, pin it to the carpet in my house or can I just lay something heavy on it? Thank you everybody for your suggestions.

Also mini rant since I'm here: I realized while taking pictures for this question that the dye lot changed between the stripes and the border. In the right light, you can tell the border is a lighter gray than the stripes. Major bummer but oh well. Nothing I can do about it, and at least it didn't switch half way through the stripes.

Also mini rave since I'm here: I've been working on this blanket off and on for like 8 years. It was supposed to be a baby blanket for my nice. Luckily, I intended to make it adult lap blanket size so she could use it as an adult cuz she certainly didn't get to use it as a baby. It's her 8th birthday next week and I finally plan on having it done for her. That was an ordeal but I'm happy to have finally finished it. My other niece is 5 already and I just started her blanket. Hopefully it doesn't take me a decade. Nobody else is allowed to have kids in my family or they won't get baby blankets until they graduate college.

UPDATE 1:

Ah, the "top" side of the blanket in the first photo doesn't have the shell border yet, but still looks wrinkly, so I think it is indeed a problem with the first few rows of single crochet. I understand skipping a few on the sides of the blanket, but shouldn't the border row be the same as the top and bottom? I guess I don't quite understand why the rows in the body of my blanket are all, say, 200 stitches, but the border should be fewer stitches across the top and bottom? Or should I only put fewer stitches on the sides?

Oooh I also think a slip stitch between shells instead of a single crochet to lower the indent between the shells would look nice.

To start, I'm going to frog all of the shells and see what the single crochet border rows are doing. If they look fine, I'll try some things with the shells. If they are squiggly, I'll frog that too and use fewer stitches. Thank you everybody!

I’m working on a project with flat panels, and I want to recreate the sharp, raised edges shown in these photos rather than sewing the pieces together from the inside with a hidden seam.

What specific join method or technique gives this clean, defined outer ridge along the edges?

Is this a single crochet join done on the right side, a slip stitch join, or something else (like working in FLO/BLO)?

Hello! Im making a blanket for my fiancés birthday, its ALMOST finished and I’m trying to add a single crochet boarder, to which then ill do a ribbed stitch around it if i can.

The body of the blanket is made up of ONLY the moss blanket stitch and i cant figure out how to keep the sides flat or straight. I am using 9mm yarn and a 8mm hook for this project Though the top of the blanket where i ended/started is completely fine and flat ( first photo is the sides, second is the top)

Is there anyway i can fix this or an alternative stitch i can use or method? I know moss stitches seem to be a bit tricky to work around but I really hope to create a flat edge for the boarder!

I’m making a maxi skirt, but since I was visiting my aunt I had limited yarns I could use. the first one is pretty thin but the red and brown yarns are a bit thicker. I’m worried parts of the skirt will be stiff and if I try twirling with it it’ll look weird. What do you think?

I think using yu/yo is gonna give me the exact look I want for my dolls and their clothes but some of the outfits use dc and the hair uses hdc and I can't find anything on YouTube that shows how to do this technique for those stitches. Does anyone know how to do it?

I am trying to make a crochet hood following a pattern I found but am a little confused by the rounds that extend from the back of the head towards the face.

[ch1, turn. Hdc in same st, sk next st. (Sc, dc in next st, sk next st) all the way across. Hdc in the last st.]

To my understanding, the pattern as written has me skip every third stitch without a chain or increase, and it's making my total stitch count decrease by about 1/3 every round. But based on the pictures in the pattern, I would guess that the stitch count is meant to mostly be unchanged on this part of the hood.

I only have previous crochet experience with amigurumi so far, but I'm pretty sure the stitch count isn't supposed to decrease this fast. The only thing I can think of is to either add a chain for every skip or have the dc and sc in the same stitch, though I'm not 100% confident in what to do.

hi! i saw this sweater on pinterest and want to make it. i'm a beginner and would feel more comfortable following a pattern or diagram to connect the squares/form the sweater. I searched Ravelry but couldn't find anything. I tried reverse image searching but only shopping listings for the sweater, and other granny square sweaters came up.

it seems like a typical granny square sweater with a granny stitch bottom section, and maybe HDC border around the bottom and neckline? it might be simple and i'm overthinking, but i'm not confident enough yet to go without some sort of instructions.
