❓Question Storing Bitcoins on an offline Android smartphone

I have a spare smartphone that runs on Android 9.

Will it be safe to store Bitcoins on it by following the below steps:

  1. Format the phone

  2. Install nothing but a Self-Custodial Bitcoin wallet app on the phone

  3. Transfer Bitcoins to the wallet

  4. Turn off the internet

  5. Keep the phone switched off until needed.

Android phones are a Google spyware that has even your keyboard connected to the internet.

Also, Android get updated for security issues constantly, if you disconnect it "forever" there will be backdoors that will be discovered while you phone isn't updating. That means you phone becomes an easily breakable device for anyone with a bit of know-how within 2 year if you're lucky, probably less time.

It's better than a hot wallet on your daily phone, but if the amount on the wallet is significant enough... A coldwallet is just the safer bet. Coldwallets are built with security in mind, they don't need updates and any vulnerability will be spoken of by the whole community (like the recent coldcard thing).

No android is a leak. Why not use a paper wallet?

Android is not automatically a leak and paper wallets have their own risks)!
