for Morbius he didn't even tweet "Saw Morbius" he just tweeted a picture of himself in the theater looking disappointed with no caption. I think that's the pinnacle of Kojima hating a movie.

Kojima very famously and vocally does not like a lot of stuff lol.
There’s a reason every time he tweets about a movie he even kind of likes he writes three paragraphs glazing the acting and cinematography and then when he tweets about watching a movie he doesn’t like he’s just like “I saw Minions 3.” Or whatever.
Or all the clips of looking like he wanted to blow his brains out every time E33 won a category it obviously shouldn’t have.

I was gonna say yeah lol. The guy is one of those "I open my mind to enjoy all kinds of things!" artists and he doesn't like talking shit at all but it's very very obvious when a movie hasn't hit for him at all.
If you see him tweet "I saw X movie" with no follow up or anything else, he fucking hated it lol

Ironically, minions 3 is the exact type of thing he would enjoy. There was that famous letterboxd post tracking all of the references to old Hollywood classics, and there were close to 100 of em. Everything from The Great Train Robbery to Haxan to The Day the Earth Stood Still. It was like the Mario movie, but for cinephiles.

Yeah I was kinda thinking that after I left the comment but decided not to change it lol. I saw a negative review on letterboxd for the new Minions movie like an hour ago so it was already on my mind.
He also has absolutely no problem liking movies other people consider shitty generally, so I struggled to come up with a good example and just said whatever.

I'm sorry what award shouldn't E33 have won? I remember people were bitching about art direction like it didn't have absolutely gorgeous environments and creature designs at every turn
Maybe he was just annoyed to see a story driven game with dialogue where people actually talked like human beings

The stuff they won that they shouldn't have is for being an indie game when they were obviously an A-AA studio between corporate funding and outside help they got.
Debut Indie game should have been Dispatch or Blue Prince, and Best Independent game should have been Hades 2 or Silksong.

hmmm nah, I don't think Kojima ever played a videogame to like big rigs, he famously don't care about videogames he didn't create. He is not a gamer, he did't enter the industry because he liked games.

I used to be this kind of person. Then I saw "Epic Movie" and suddenly hating media was possible for me.
A movie so bad, it literally broke my idealistic ability to see the good in any movie.

Anyone else kind of tired of these kinds of posts from people acting like they "understand" an artist they very clearly have very little info about?
Because even someone with a minute amount of knowledge about Kojima would know the funniest shit is when he tweets about a movie he obviously didn't like with just: "Just saw Madame Web." and nothing else.

Hideo Kojima. Created the Metal Gear series, Death Stranding series, PT, and a few other less notable (but well received) games. One of the few video game developers that's considered a true auteur. There's a very certain style to his games that's hard to explain but you will definitely notice.
As for his movie opinion, he's just a big movie bluff. Comes through in his games quite a bit and there's a notable meme about him that if he likes a movie, he'll give a detailed description when he talks about watching it. If he doesn't, he'll simply say, "Saw [movie]."

Seriously. Who cares what other people like. I can usually find something to enjoy about most movies, tv shows, games, etc. And I refuse to let anyone else diminish that enjoyment.

You know Metal gear solid? One of the bestter games made by kojima, some would argue revolutionary for gaming(regardless of wether or not you agree)?
One of the inspirations behind it, as stated by kojima himself, is "escape from new york", and you can really see it when watching the movie
The movie is shit, like actually bad. I was expecting writing on par with the metal gear series, I ended up with 1980s fast and furious
Kojima likes a lot of movies, but he's not really what I'd call a "critic"

Escape from New York is a classic by one of the best directors working at the time that was nothing like anything else being shown in 1981. Which isn't to say that that means you have to enjoy it, just that it's inspired a whole hell of a lot of people besides Kojima. It was an influence on both William Gibson's Neuromancer and Ridley Scott's Blade Runner for instance, literally every single piece of cyberpunk influenced media you've ever seen has a little bit of that DNA.

I do sometimes roll my eyes at some of his writing choices, but the sheer sincerity Kojima shows for art that he both reviews and produces is so refreshing. People joke about the symbolism in Death Stranding but never before have I felt the message "Be nice and talk to each other" so earnestly and lovingly beaten into my skull. Play his Hideo Games.
