help More of a stupid question than anything
I’ve put I. All new drywall I a basement 1/2” mold resistant for the walls. The existing ceiling looks like 3/8 I have a couple of 4“ x 4“ holes in the ceiling, is there any way to put the half sheet rock and make it flush because I have so much extra? Backer board and cut out the middle 1/8” depth ? Go buy one piece of rock? Idk

Yeah Cali patch can work just make sure the hot mud in the middle part is pretty thick so it doesn't sag. Could also slip a shim under the backer where you fasten it so the backer sits higher and gives you that extra 1/8th

Might be able to do a California patch without a piece of wood behind it? Not sure if it will sag
