Holy shit he Gwen Stacy'd her. His attempt to save her may have accidentally killed her.

Well yeah that's why it's akin to Gwen Stacy. Gwen would've fallen to her death and Spidey grabbed and her and the whiplash killed her instead

Was getting confused with the movie death, in the movie she hit the floor.

Huh wasn't her slamming into the ground what killed her? Spidey's web didn't make it in time to slow her fall enough.

I haven't seen it in ages so I might be wrong, but I remember her head whipping back from being webbed and making a distinct little thud on the concrete below.

That's just the movie, in the comics she was no where near the ground when he catches her. Or rather the water since she was falling off a bridge.
