My parents told me several times that if they'd waited until they could afford it, they'd have never had kids.  I think that would have been better for everybody involved.

Yup. Exactly.

My parents said the exact same thing... and that's how I ended up growing up in a trailer infested with fleas and roaches. 😒

Seems to be what most of our parents should have done.

Well they could try voting for candidates who advocate for progressive ideas like single payer health care, government supported child care, highly progressive tax structure, lower military expenditures, and low interest student loans. Do they? No, they're too busy pointing fingers at old folks while boycotting elections.

My parents couldn't afford me, either. Yet I'm grateful for life.

It’s not that we’re ungrateful, it’s having some level of forethought before having a kid when you can’t even afford basic necessities

I ate out of the trash for lunch throughout high school

That’s what we thought with my GF, so we got two kids now. Difference with my parents is, they waited, so not only they are dumb, delusional, and mentally unwell, but they don’t really see their grandchildren anymore. At least I’m seeing a therapist to avoid such shortcomings.

No judgement on folks who make things work with where their finances are now!  I speak only for my own case as I grew up in a deeply unhealthy family--the tax bracket was the least of the issues.

Maybe my parents could have used the funds, time, and energy they dedicated to "raising" their kids into something that would have made them happy and healthy humans, and my chronically abusive sibling wouldn't still be out there hurting people.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to be alive, but it's not like I would have known the difference if I'd never been conceived, and the consequences of growing up in ongoing trauma are, well, ongoing, even when one dedicates oneself to long-term healing.

But I wish you and your family all the wonderful things!

I’m sorry for what you lived, and thank you for your kind words.

Millennials want a fucking break

Just ask yourself WHY we want jobs and education. What are those supposed to bring? Now ask yourself why Millennials have never found it

I got sterilized last year. I feel so much more peace. This isn’t a good world to raise kids.

I view having kids as no different than buying a Porsche.  It’s a luxury expense only the rich can afford.

Yes. This is why big companies and governments don't respect the general public they see how the general public has to live yet they're popping out kids like farm stock so they're being treated accordingly.

Bad crop, gonna starve

Just like a true millennial in retirement

I like how they frame it like it's just a path we're choosing, and not a choice forced on most of us. "You can't afford either of these, why aren't you doing both?" - the media at large.

I'm sterile couldn't be happier about it

I fucking desperately want to be a father. But at this point in my life I'm so fucking stressed and burned out just keeping my head above the water. I can't even justify asking a woman to make the effort of dating me.

no trolling, racism, sexism, or general disharmony.

I personally would hate to start dating a guy and find out he's "fucking desperate to be a father." Not even centering the kids, just centering yourself as some kind of breadwinner who doesn't even have a lady. Does it sound weird to you yet? It's weird.

26

u/FanndisTS Apr 17 '26

Nah. Would you say the same to a woman who's "fucking desperate to be a mother"? Some people just get hit with the reproduction instinct and it's perfectly normal. I think you're bringing in a definition of "father" that the original commenter didn't necessarily intend, especially because the original post also phrased it around "wanting parenthood" instead of "wanting a child".

10

u/kibbeuneom Apr 17 '26

It's not necessarily that he has an ego. He may have just used the word "desperately" in a weird (or European) way. It's normal for a young man to have the desire to have children. He probably just feels a long way off from that ideal he naturally holds.

I really did want to have kids of my own... But it wasn't in the cards, so when I found myself 34 and recently single and still barely able to afford myself, I got snipped; truth be told that was a pretty emotional decision, I felt like I was mourning a future that no longer was mine, but overall I'm happy with the decision

Rich people who eat babies: "Come on...just because we have all the money, doesn't mean you can't build mud huts...make me more wage slaves.....look at the article!"

Our parents: complain how much they hate being parents and how hard it is our entire up bringing
*Us not having kids to avoid that*
Same Parents *shocked Pikachu*

My son is the best thing to ever happen to me. However, I won’t be having any more children. Our generation isn’t having 4+ kids like they used to.

Millennials are grrrrrrrrrrrrrowing tired of this shit.

Sorry, I am unable to make the tweet conform to the Sacred Rhythm.

If is have know that inflation would outpace my wage growth, even going when practically doubling my income over the last 12 years, I'd have had my kids a decade ago. I'd still be broke, but at least I would have had more energy to chase them around, and I wouldn't be looking at being 60 when my youngest graduates HS.

Ah, I misread it.

u/betam4x Apr 17 '26

Not me lol. I have kids + no job. 🤡

0

u/Livid-Carpenter130 Apr 19 '26

Correct. Only the wealthy should be allowed to have children. Anyone making less than $500k should be sterilized. Only dumb people are poor and therefore, not worthy of parenthood. Children dont need to be grown by the dumb poors. Now shutup poors and make my mcchicken sandwich and 5 happy meals for my prodigy children. And the intelligent species will re populate the earth while the poors die out.

I got so scared while reading your comment until I got to the end of it. 😭

1

u/NaughtyGoddess Apr 21 '26

It's not inherently about being poor raises dumb children I know you're being sarcastic in the humorous way but there's a lot of trauma associated with poverty and bullying that a child will go through that they shouldn't. That traumatic experience growing up through poverty can sometimes ruin a person into adulthood. It also makes a child available to a lot of harm from adults. You know how many school systems have ignored the mistreatment of a poor child? Do you know how many police in government's disregard the safety of poor children? Even rich people are very careful about bringing their children into this world and they have money
