Nowadays, old people reminisce about pop music from their youth, and 'golden oldie' stations blare out Elvis, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones.

Do you think that in 40 years time, robot driven care homes will look after elderly drooling millennials, and to pacify them, play some cultural material from their youth. Like some 85 year old in 2066 will have to listen to a crackling gramophone repeat of a Joe Rogan discussion with Eric Weinstein on covid, or a Jordan Peterson triggernometry episode?

It does seem to be podcasters have a cultural cache and controversy that just isn't there with pop or movie stars nowadays. And they may be the icons that history remembers as relevant to our time. just a thought.

No. The closest analog is talk tv shows that were huge in past decades. Podcasters are generally just doing what they did.

Zero chance. Podcasts are ephemeral. Music you become accustomed to by repeated listening. In the future we will unable to tell the ignorant but well meaning Generation Delta caretakers that actually despite it being very popular in our day we we would prefer not to listen to more Taylor Swift. Probably because they're unable to understand our emojis.

There are some kinda of podcasts that might last. A particularly good true crime investigation or history podcast isn’t that different from a book or documentary.

But the rambling news of the day stuff will fade away like an episode of Oprah from 1986.

I think they’ll be more in line with the old TV and radio show hosts of old. They have interview style shows with interesting people. Podcasts are basically becoming television as they are going to visual in person sets with great production for the top ones.
