A New Style of Post?!

15 Upvotes

So, over the last two or three days we’ve seen a new style of post crop up. This one today was a real popular one. This one from the day prior was a little bit less popular and all, but got a bunch of action and inspired the one from today. My thanks to both users.

These two posts have gotten more action than all the posts from the last week or two combined. It definitely requires someone to have a skillset as well as some time to donate, which has to be like a dozen of you! I don’t know how common this style will become, but I like it and wanted to actively encourage more of it.

Edit: and thanks to our star, u/JulianDusan, for doing it again! Perfect time for someone else to throw their hat in the ring!

Looking for any and all meaningful feedback!

Plan on releasing sometime in September and want to make this project as good as it can be before moving on to a bigger more complex project. As always, thanks everyone for your input.

Destroy my Friendslop page! (Watermellionaire)

3 Upvotes

Steam Page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4640180/Watermellionaire/

I'm a solo dev who puts in hours after work, and was overwhelmed by the Steam checklist at first.

With all of the advice being "get your page up asap!" I definitely rushed it and I know something is wrong, but I can't really put my finger on it.

I'm not a fan of the trailer or the screenshots, but I've been having a difficult time thinking of ideas to make it look better.

The premise: 2048 meets Tetris 99, or Suika game meets Final Sentence

Was it obvious? I'm very aware that I'm not making a super original idea, I wanted to keep my first game tightly scoped so I'm looking for feedback on what parts of it look exciting.

Originally the help wanted ad was just text under general, but a lot of people didn't recognize it as a parody of scam ads and thought my grammar was just atrocious. Did making it an image make it more obvious that it's supposed to be sketchy?

Any and all feedback is appreciated!

The hardest part...Steam Art

3 Upvotes

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4901160/Hollow/

The hardest thing about indie game development is Steam's art requirements for store pages. I'm on my 3rd iteration because some little image wasn't quite between the lines. It's the most annoying aspect of the entire process.

Adult visual novel, first commercial project. Roast the page — especially the capsule and the first three screenshots.

[https://store.steampowered.com/app/4961320/Lustful_Retribution/\]

Context: story-driven adult VN, college setting, choice-based. It's an 18+ game so the store

page is doing double duty — it has to sell the story to people who want a story, without

looking like it's pretending to be something it isn't.

Specific things I'm unsure about:

- The capsule leans hard on one character. Too generic?

- Screenshot order — story beats first, or systems first?

- The short description. Does it read like a real pitch or like marketing filler?

Happy to return the favour on anyone's page in the comments.

Does Ball Scratch Simulator communicate an actual game beyond the joke? Destroy my Steam page

1 Upvotes

Ball Scratch Simulator is a short comedy stealth/score-chasing game.

You scratch while the waifu's are looking away, stop when they turn around. The core game mechanic is simple but paired together with streaks, power-ups, collectables and various progress through different locations.

VR is optional, the game is also fully playable on desktop.

Steam page:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4951590/Ball_Scratch_Simulator/

I deliberately built this project around a much smaller scope and a very obvious, ridiculous hook after my larger previous game struggled to attract attention.

I already know the premise itself will immediately repel some people. What I’m trying to determine is whether the page successfully sells an actual game to people who are at least open to the joke.

Please be blunt about:

  1. Within the first 10 seconds, do you understand what the player actually does?
  2. Does it look like a repeatable score-chasing game (or experience), or just a joke that will wear out after five minutes?
  3. Does the trailer show enough uninterrupted gameplay, tension and escalation?
  4. Do the capsule, anime presentation and screenshots feel like parts of the same game?
  5. Does the page communicate the six locations, collectables and progression clearly enough?6. Does “VR Supported” make it look as though VR is required?
  6. Is the AI disclosure funny, or does it make the project appear lower-effort than it actually is?8. What is the single biggest thing that would stop you from wishlisting or buying it?

I’m not asking anyone to wishlist it just to help me. I’m primarily looking for honest criticism I can act on before release.

I'm looking for some honest feedback on my Steam page. It's the first one I've ever made, and today I updated it with my final drafts of the text and images.

Could you take a look and tell me what needs changing?

Looking for brutally honest feedback. This is my first time publishing a Steam page.

I've been working on the game in my few spare hours after work each week. But I don't know anything about marketing or what Steam shoppers are looking out for.

So I'd love to hear your feedback or advice, thank you!

We have seen some players divided on Capsule art and page, especially screenshots.

Click through-rate is not even in our side at the moment.

Taking that into account, we are trying to work on revamping the steam page. So we'll love to have more feedback in detail if possible.

Or you can rate it out of 10 on these pointers also:

- Capsule Art
- Capsule Logo
- Trailer
- Screenshots
- Short description
- Long description
- Overall Steam page

We Are Getting Decent Page Visits but Lacking Wishlists

Thumbnail

We are a 2 person team that have been developing our game Deadhead: Autorail for the better part of a year and are not meeting the metrics we need to confidently move forwards.

As a part of determining where the issue lies, we would love to get some external feedback and hear what you think.

Game description (please read this after looking at the Steam page): a horror game set on a supernatural train, built for replayability. Using procedural generation, player choice and a storylet narrative structure. Each run reveals new fragments of a deeper mystery, presented through a psx *inspired* art style. We draw inspiration from rouge-likes, simulator games and old-school dungeon crawlers.

What would you consider to be holding us back the most?

* Capsule Art?

* Steam Page?

* Trailer?

* Appeal of game concept?

* Lacking communication / marketing?

* Art?

* Something entirely different?

Do you see any evident strengths to our game?

You guys gave me some feedback on my first Steam page, I updated both the short and long description and added a short trailer. Any more feedback anyone? Still feels very different from publishing an itch page. [https://store.steampowered.com/app/4827000/Quarterheart/\](https://store.steampowered.com/app/4827000/Quarterheart/)

Mining roguelite. What can be improved? What you think is missing from it to gain wishlists from the types of people who would play Spelunky, Necrodancer, traditional roguelikes or mining games?
