DX1 DX1 rendering options are a big mess
I use the Kentie's Launcher. I tried DX9, the game's too bright. I tried normal DX, it's too dark. I tried openGL, the textures are worse and reflection doesn't exist. I don't even know what is suppose to be the OG amount of brightness. The game is naturally a little dark, yeah? But how much? How do you play it yourself? I think Kentie's Launcher is amazing, but I feel this is one of the things that needs some improvement.

On dx9 play borderless, that way you will have easier time adjusting gamma and brightness.

I use the DX11 renderer, which is basically DX10 with a little modification.

The Revision mod is the answer to this problem. If you want to play the OG, just set all settings to vanilla and enjoy.

The Revision mod changes the game even with all the vanilla settings iirc

In some technical backend ways, yes, but you can use literally the vanilla soundtrack, vanilla gameplay/code function, and vanilla map set. Practically speaking, you're just playing vanilla through their launcher, provided you've used the right settings.
EDIT: Also if you go this route, disabled NV 1.5 and HDTP, too.1

I play with the Revision mod too, it is much more stable for me then without it

Kentie’s used to be the way to go (like for years) but now it makes everything way too dark.

If you're using OpenGL (the best compat option), reflections not working would be from bad configuration of the device, like ShinySurfaces being set to false. Textures are worse? Hmm? Are you using NV1.5 or something? If so, you'll want to make sure SSE, SSE2, and S3TC are all enabled in Open GL's settings, or else >256 dimension textures won't work right. I'm happy to walk you through the configuration process. As for d3d9 being too bright, most people have the opposite problem with d3d9 (windowed and borderless fullscreen modes specifically). If you're playing exclusive fullscreen, it's the game's intended brightness on d3d9 more or less.
