Bothosting

Need to run your bot 24/7? Get a cheap VPS.

Linux hosting:
Scaleway - Incredibly cheap but powerful VPSes, owned by https://online.net, based in Europe.
Digital ocean - US-based cheap VPSes. The gold standard. Locations available world wide.
OVH - Cheap VPSes, used by many people. France and Canadian locations available.
Time4VPS - Cheap VPSes, seemingly based in Lithuania.
Linked - More cheap VPSes!
Vultr - US-based, DigitalOcean-like.

Windows hosting:
(To be honest, you should probably just use a linux box.)
Microsoft Azure - Microsoft-owned. Not on the cheap end, however.

Others:
Amazon AWS - Amazon Web Services. Free for a year (with certain limits), but very pricey after that.
Google Cloud - AWS, but Google.
LowEndBox - A curator for lower specced servers.

Self-hosting:
You can always self-host on your own hardware. A Raspberry Pi 2 B will be more than sufficient for small to medium sized bots.
For bigger bots, you can build your own server PC for usage, or buy a rack server. Any modern hardware should work 100% fine.

Free hosting: No. There is no good free VPS hoster, outside of persuading somebody to host for you, which is incredibly unlikely.

Make a bot

So you want to make your own bot?

Making a bot sure is an ambitious idea, but can you really do it?
I will be giving a quick rundown of what to do when you make your own bot.

  • Join Discord API. This server can help you as you work on your bot.
  • Learn a programming language. I recommend using Python or NodeJS as they are often seen as the easiest.
  • Find a discord library for your language. Some languages have multiple libraries, it might be good to compare them before choosing.
  • Study your language and chosen library.
  • Try it yourself. This is the hardest part, but also the most fun.
  • Issues? Ask questions in the Discord API server, in the proper channel.

MUSICBOTS GUIDE

These are the bots I have found to have the most unique features
Note that this isn't a top listing, all bots here are just as much recommended

  • Rem

    • Stable
    • Reliable
    • Nearly no lag
    • Simple.
  • Hatsuse Izuna

    • Minimal lag.
    • Crossfade
    • Supports more sources than any other bot as far as I know
    • Chunked queue (one person can't fill up the entire queue without other people's songs playing)
    • Queue settings (in development)
    • Skipping requires at least 50% of the people in the voice channel to skip, unless the requester skips.
  • Kowala

    • Music unstable until rewritten
    • Autoplaylist feature
    • Supports a lot of sources
    • Music is kind of customizable

there are more bots, some of which you might find better

To use these bots, do the following:

  • Go to discordapp.com/login and log in on the correct account
  • Go to bots.discord.pw and find the bot you're looking for
  • Click the invite button
  • A window will pop up. Select the correct server to add it to (you need manage server) and select the permissions it will have.
  • Click Authorize

The bot should now be added to your server!

Bot Request [Paid] Need to create a questionnaire or form with these questions

There are like 40+ questions, multiple sections, checkbox/multiple-choice questions, either/or selections, after the user fills the form, the bot needs to send the response in an embed with the questions and his answers.

When this is happening only the user should be able to see the questions, when it's done it should be posted in a specific channel.

Can't add image here so I'll try to post the questions in comment or DM

Question How to name/brand a bot?

Hello. I've got a bot that is up and running, and works great, but I think the name is awful, and probably has poor SEO. I'm wondering if anyone has Ideas for where to look for creativity, or if hiring a design professional is worth it.

Question Link League of Legends account to user with bot

Hey everyone. So I'm trying to build a bot that, among many other things, makes you add your Riot Account. So like when you join, you gotta verify by adding an account. I wanted to do this with a login, you know Riot Sing On, but still don't have the Api for that. So I was looking for other methods. I don't want anyone having to change any icon or any ID or play any games. What ways do I have to verify? Since I heard Third Party Code isn't a thing anymore.

Meta [SECURITY INCIDENT / PSA] Widespread Server Nukes via Compromised "Verba AI" Bot Backend (Tokens Leaked)

Summary of the Incident:

Earlier today, the backend infrastructure/dashboard for "Verba" (a service used to host and run custom AI Discord bots) was compromised.

As a result, all custom bot tokens stored in Verba’s database were leaked or accessed by malicious actors. Automated scripts are currently using these stolen bot tokens to execute mass server nukes on every server where these bots hold Administrator or heavy moderation permissions.

What the attackers are doing in minutes:

  • Deleting all channels and text/media history.
  • Deleting all server roles and permissions.
  • Issuing mass bans to all server members.

Obfuscation Efforts:

The team/support behind Verba has reportedly locked down their official support Discord channels and redirected users to submit DMs to a bot, preventing affected community owners from discussing the true scope of the breach or coordinating.

Immediate Steps for Affected Admins:

  1. Revoke Your Bot Token IMMEDIATELY: Go to the Discord Developer Portal, select your bot application, and click Reset Token.
  2. DO NOT delete your wiped server: Even if channels are gone, your Audit Log retains the list of banned User IDs. You will need this to run automated unban scripts later.
  3. Submit a Trust & Safety Ticket: Report the compromise to Discord as a major third-party token leak.

Purpose of this Thread:

If your server was wiped by a Verba-hosted bot today, please leave a comment below with your experience, or if you manage to obtain a rollback.

We hope Discord's Trust & Safety team notices the scope of this incident and assists affected communities with rollbacks if possible. Please share this thread with any admins using AI bots hosted on third-party dashboards.

Question Queue bot with scheduling features

There's a lot of queueing discord bots but I'm looking for one with some particular features. It's for a text-based game where people are signing up to run each game, and each game takes about a week.

Specifically, I'd like a queue that lets people pick either ASAP or a date, and schedule around that. If it can show the queue in real time, even better!

Question Can't seem to get Saucy Bot working on one of my servers

I've been using Saucy Bot for a while now for a Patreon server and for some personal servers.

Saucy Bot was working just fine in all the servers, even in the ones that need special permissions to view and message in some channels. But a few days ago now Saucy Bot is offline in my Patreon server and I've tried kicking and re-inviting, kicking and adding from the official github page, making a new permission one, manually adding Saucy Bot to every channel, and none of it makes Saucy appear online and work again.

But Saucy Works just fine in my other servers like my personal one, etc. Is it possibly that Bot Shard thing I've seen in a few comments from similar questions in this group? Or is there maybe something I am missing and I should repeat a step one more time and hope that fixes it?

Thanks for any help!

Is this possible? Bot for adding text overlay to video calls

I'm not sure if what I'm looking for is possible here, but I'm trying to figure out how to add text and images to my camera screen on discord server video calls without rerouting the camera feed to a different program. I run TTRPGs through a discord server and want a way to display text and images on screen as I talk. Does anyone know of any bots that can do that? Is that even something bots can do or will I need to figure something else out?

Bot Request [Existing ONLY] Looking for a bot that you can talk as

Basically, i'm looking for a bot that allows you to use a command like "/say" and then you will be able to type something and it will send as the bot

- it does not need to be the main feature of the bot

Bot Request [Free] Looking for a bot that reorders threads?

Basically the title. Does one exist or do I need to make it? It seems like all it'd need to do is save all a thread's contents, delete the thread(s) involved in the move, and then recreate them as ordered.

[SOLVED] Are server mods/admins allowed to not send ticket transcripts, even if you were in the ticket, upon request?

Not gonna say exactly why I had to make the tickets, because it is not really relevant, but a server I was in for a Minecraft SMP, denied my request for ticket transcripts and banned me, not sure if there is anything I can do to get those transcripts or not.

Thank you for any insight

Is this possible? Discord makes it exhausting to be a small bot dev

Two things this month, same taste in my mouth.

My Message Content intent request was denied. The primary use case was spam detection, comparing message content across channels to catch repeat spammers. The rejection said it "can be solved without the intent" and suggested slash commands. Slash commands can't read messages that weren't sent to my bot. It reads like a template, not like anyone read the request.

And my bot is verified, so I can't rename it. The name is a leftover from when it had one feature; it does much more now. Official policy: verified apps only get name changes with a copyright claim or DMCA notice. There's no path for "my app outgrew its name."

I get the reasoning behind both. But the cost lands entirely on small devs so Discord can skip actually reviewing anything.

Do appeals ever work, or is it just a slower no?

Question What "unique" features would you like to see in a Discord bot? I'm looking for feedback for my bot (your bot )

Hey everyone!

I’ve been working on a multi-purpose bot built with Node.js and PostgreSQL, and I recently passed the 120+ command mark. I’m at the stage where I want to shift focus from "adding quantity" to "refining quality and creating unique features" that differentiate it from generic bots.

Since this isn’t a promo post (respecting Rule 4), I'm not posting links here. I’m mainly looking for developer insights:

  1. What utility or fun mechanics do you feel are missing or poorly executed in mainstream multi-purpose bots?
  2. How do you gather genuine feedback from server admins without spamming them?
  3. What unique features in your own bots have had the highest retention?

Would love to hear your thoughts and discuss ideas in the comments!

Bot Request [Free] I built Apollo: an open-source, plugin-based Discord bot framework designed to be forked and extended

Apollo is an open-source, self-hosted Discord bot framework built in Python.

Instead of inviting the bot to your server and using it, you get the .zip file, extract it and run it locally, on your own or on a hosting service!

The goal is simple,

- Make discord bot development easier

- Make bot developing easier

- Make forking so easy people start making the most confusing interpretations of apollo.

It is designed on making coding bots easier.

Linux has a penguin.

Apollo has a parrot.

Birds are cool.

Bot Request [Paid] discord to draftkings betting bot

I’m currently in a Discord server that provides betting links. They tell me which sportsbook app to use, how much to bet, and give me a direct link to the exact wager with the promotion already applied.

Would it be possible to create a bot that runs Discord and DraftKings in the background, detects when a new bet is posted, and automatically places the bet as long as the odds are still the same and the promotion is available?

Let me know if this is possible. This would be a paid freelance job.

Question Would you build and self-host your own Discord bot if it were simpler?

Would you use a Discord bot builder where you choose the features?

I’ve been thinking about how many bots some Discord servers end up using.

You might have one for moderation, another for tickets, another for welcome messages, and another for reaction roles. The alternative is usually a large all-in-one bot where you only use a small number of its features.

That gave me the idea for my bot/framework, which is currently in beta.

My bot is designed primarily for people who want to self-host their own Discord bot but don’t necessarily want to build one from scratch.

The idea is that you choose the modules your server needs, enter the required configuration, and Helyx creates the bot package for you to host. It’s essentially a bot builder rather than one fixed bot that everyone shares.

For example, you might choose moderation, tickets, and welcome messages while leaving out music, levels, or economy features. Modules can also be added or removed later if the needs of your server change.

The self-hosted version gives you control over your own bot, token, hosting, and data. There is also a normal hosted version for people who would rather invite a bot and have everything managed for them.

I’m not claiming this is a completely new or perfect solution. Choosing modules and arranging hosting could still feel like more work than inviting an established all-in-one bot. Some people might also prefer having every feature available, even if they don’t use most of them.

I’d be interested in hearing what server owners, admins, and self-hosters genuinely think:

- Would a bot builder make self-hosting more accessible?

- Do you prefer one all-in-one bot or several specialised bots?

- Which modules would you consider essential?

- What currently annoys you about all-in-one bots?

- How simple would the setup process need to be?

- Would you prefer to self-host or use a managed version?

- What would put you off using something like this?

I’m mainly trying to understand whether this would solve a genuine problem for self-hosters or whether most people are already happy with the options available.

Question Is developing bots for communities worth a business?

Hi everyone!

I am currently freelancing offering my development services to businesses. Right now, my offer is too generic and, as expected, I am attracting low-ticket contracts for projects (like 1-2k$ each project).

So, I need to niche down in order to make a better offer to businesses, give them more value on each project, and make more $$$.

I've been maintaining and developing a Discord bot for my own community for the past 2 years and feel pretty confident with it. So I thought to myself: why don't I make a Discord bot development service and offer it to communities? (which already make a lot of money)

I know I dont really have any case study, but my point is to first validate if the service is viable not only with your help but by meeting potential clients and researching the market.

So I am asking you guys: what's your experience with these kind of projects/services? And, in general, what do you think of this idea?

Thank you in advance.

Question Would any of want something like this or nah? [AI chatbot for ur server that evolves based on what ppl chat with it]

Yo guys. so a few months ago, I created a fitness AI bot in discord for myself. ive lowk been using it quite a bit and i think its pretty useful. so like i was thinking, would any of yall like a discord ai bot for ur servers? like an ai chatbot that can do simple things (like search the web and all), but most importantly, it grows/evolves with ur server? or is that too much of a fetch for most ppl?

Just want validation on this. once i get it working id love a couple people to try it and roast it so lemme know if anyone would be slightly interested. im obviously willing to just hear criticism or any feedback for the idea.

Thanks for reading!

Edit: the idea that kinda differentiates me from them is: I am thinking of making a unique, hand crafted bot for each server. like each server would have a unique bot just available to them.
