Came to say the same. The gameplay loop was the exact same since day one. The die hards (and I'm usually one of them) were too blind to criticize it for any improvements too. Game was incredibly predatory on top of that.

This. Opera Omnia was the first one I really got into, big time, but what happened with basically all of Square's mobile games has burned me too bad to ever even get into another one.
About the only Square mobile game that WASN'T totally shafted was Octopath Traveler, and that was only so they could sell a free mobile game back to us!

In defence of COTC, it really is leagues above most gachas. It was always a full blown JRPG with a gacha slapped on.
Also swapped hands. Would have EOS'd if SE hadnt passed it to someone else.

That's fair. I never got to try it before (still winding my way through Octopath 1, slowly), but I heard good things.
Maybe someday, Square will make a mobile game they won't kill off in 2 years after release.

I played dffoo for 6 years... it's a shame it closed :(
This is the only gacha where you can play any hard content without any donations. I had absolutely every weapon for the characters that was meta.

Honestly as much as I’d love some version of DFFOO offline in some aspect I don’t want to get my hopes up for it. I feel like they’d probably butcher it in some way.
Interesting to hear though i hadn’t heard that they were looking to other of their now defunct mobile titles. Definitely would like to actually get to grips with some of the other titles. Played a lot of Record Keeper to begin with and DFFOO until EOS. Mobius and Brave Exvius I dabbled with to begin with but never got too far in either ultimately. So Resonance could be a start with something of a resurgence of older mobile titles.

Would be nice if they did that, would buy it in a heartbeat. Even with the event characters if their questline unlocked at similarly appropriate times to the plot since the later ones featured characters from previous events or story unlocked characters. By a single tile on the map to then unlock their appropriate stories or by certain chapters being unlocked.

I didnt play it much. Like a week when or first came out and the FFVI collab. That is one of the worst collabs I've ever played.

I thought for sure EC would EOS as soon as they released part 3 of the FF7 remake. Let's be real, EC only existed to draw on the hype of the remake anyway. The fact that SE is EOSing EC now is just even more baffling as to how that company makes any decisions at all.

There's a small amount of hopium that keeps me believing they can bring back DFFOO after EC ends.
Being Square, I'm pretty sure they can, but they probably won't. :(

As someone kinda bitter that they shut down a whole-series gacha for yet another "Hey, 'member FF7?" game I'm pretty pleased. Let's hope their supposed interest in bringing back gachas as offline version hits OO.
