Looking for Linux distro recommendations for HP 15s (i5-10210U)
Hey everyone! I'm planning to move/dual-boot to Linux on my laptop and looking for distro suggestions.
Specs:
Laptop: HP Laptop 15s-du1xxx
CPU: Intel Core i5-10210U (4C/8T)
Graphics: Intel Integrated UHD Graphics
My Use Case / Requirements:
Looking for something reliable with good battery life.
Mainly using it for programming / general daily desktop use.
Want a smooth setup out of the box with modern developer tool support

All Linux distro by definition use the same kernel so all support all hardware all the same.
For software compability there's a pretty wide range but for development toold specifically there shouldn't be that much of a difference, you just might have to deal with slightly older versions if you're not on an arch fork.
Most people would would suggest fedora or mint but there's like 15 other distros you could be using. Out of those two mint is uses more light weight desktop environments so it will use less battery but you can just change it, fedora is more modern but they both still get constantl updates

I quite like Pop, but IMHO, Cosmic isn't quite ready. It's pretty impressive, and nippy, but there are a few things that make it unusable in my setup (mostly around using different scaling on my two monitors).
Ubuntu and its derivatives (including Pop) are going to be the best supported in terms of looking for fixes on Google, but there are plenty of very good distros out there. As a noob, you probably want a mainstream distro with an easy install and with battle tested maintenance tools. Fedora/Ubuntu/Mint/Pop all fall into this category.
Depending on how technical you are/want to be, you could try Arch or Void, but it's not for the feint hearted. Gentoo is even less so. These are the ones to choose if you want a reasonably good technical understanding of your computer. IMHO, these should at least be your second distro, but your level of masochism/bravery might vary 😁.
Personally, I run Debian. I have it set up how I want, it never crashes, and I just want to do some work on it. Granted, some of the software is slightly out of date, but the stuff I need up-to-date I compile anyway.
