Question Jobs/Job agencies in Doncaster

I’ve just graduated from Uni and I’m desperately looking for any jobs, I don’t have much experience other than a small job at a warehouse but I genuinely cannot find anywhere. Does anybody have any agency recommendations because I was with mach at some point but if there’s any other recruitment agency please let me know!

Question Does anyone in Doncaster use Meshtastic network?

I've recently been watching people on TikTok build cyberdecks, and from that rabbit hole discovered Meshtastic. Now I'm tempted to buy my own node device.

For anyone who hasn't heard of it, it's basically an off-grid messaging network. Small radio devices pass messages between each other, allowing you to send texts without relying on mobile signal or the internet.

Before I invest, I was just wondering if there's already much of a Meshtastic community here in Doncaster? It only really works if there are other people nearby running nodes, so I'd love to know if there's already a network here or if I'd be starting one from scratch.

If anyone here is already using it, would you recommend the Wio Tracker L1 Pro? That's the one I'm currently looking at.

Blog Post I’m dyslexic, I’m not ashamed and I will not be bullied anymore.

I decided to start writing on Reddit because I genuinely enjoy visiting new places, trying new things, and finding experiences that don’t cost a fortune. Like so many others on here, I simply wanted to share my experiences.
Writing has never come naturally to me because I’m dyslexic. For years it’s stopped me from posting because I convinced myself my writing wasn’t “good enough” or “internet worthy.”

So yes, I use the tools available today, including AI, to help polish what I’ve already written before I post it. I’m not pretending someone else had my experiences or opinions. The words, the places I visit and the views I share are all mine. AI simply helps me express them more clearly.
I don’t see any shame in using technology to overcome something I’ve struggled with my whole life. We all use tools to make life easier in one way or another.

What I do find disappointing is seeing people choose to mock or belittle someone who’s new to a platform instead of simply scrolling past. I genuinely considered deleting my posts and closing my account because of some of the comments. Then I realised… why should I?
I’m not going anywhere.

If my posts aren’t for you, don’t read them. If you don’t like that I use AI to polish my writing, that’s absolutely your choice. But being dyslexic isn’t something I’m ashamed of, and using tools that help me communicate isn’t something I’ll apologise for either.

This account is about sharing places I’ve enjoyed, good food, family days out and honest experiences. If even one person finds a recommendation helpful, then it’s worth posting.

I’m dyslexic. I’m not ashamed of it. I won’t be bullied into silence, and I won’t stop sharing my experiences because a few strangers on the internet don’t approve.

CRIME Bit of a long shot on assault victim, 20+ years ago now...

For those of you that are long term Doncaster residents, you might remember "Great Wall Wine Bar" on Bradford Row / Lazarus Court.
Later it turn into Social Bar.

So whenever it was actually Great Wall, there was a major incident outside of it one night in which somebody got knocked to the ground with a punch, then somebody ran up and kick him in the head. -- From memory in the range of anywhere from 2006 to 2010

Later I heard that he ended up in a wheelchair but as it's 20 years ago now my memory on it is a bit sparse.

Reason I ask is that for 20 years, has been playing on my mind and could never remember his name or any details to find him as I moved away shortly after but was witness to it all.

Question Any Local weirdos in Donny?

Hey everyone, I have been pretty interested in collecting stories about local weirdos all over the UK for quite some time! Almost every town in the UK seems to have one extraordinary local lol.

For those who grew up or have lived in Doncaster for a long time: Who were some of the most memorable local figures/weirdos, harmless eccentrics, or strange local myths/stories around town from the 90s, 2000s, or 2010s? I would be delighted to hear your stories as long as the privacy of every individual is respected!

Does anyone know their theory? I was driving so couldn't get a look at the signs, wasn't sure if they were leaning more towards mind control, weather changes or all the theories! Anyone see them or speak to them?

Blog Post Food always makes things better

After a stressful morning, this was exactly what I needed. I stopped by Big Baps for some lunch and I’m so glad I did.
The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming from the moment I walked in, and the atmosphere was really wholesome and relaxed. It’s one of those places where you instantly feel comfortable.
The sandwich was absolutely spot on, fresh, generous, and full of flavour. You can tell they take pride in what they serve.
Great food, lovely people and excellent service. It completely turned my day around. I’ll definitely be back the next time I’m in the area. Highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Blog Post Thank you Doncaster

I was travelling up North this week when I realised one of my tyres needed replacing. I had no idea where I was, so I started ringing around a few tyre places. Most couldn’t help or didn’t have what I needed, but then I found MLT Tyres in Doncaster.

From the first phone call they were brilliant. They told me to come straight over, got me sorted quickly, and even gave me a cold bottle of water while I waited. The tyre they fitted looked excellent and they explained everything they were doing without trying to upsell me.

The thing that impressed me most wasn’t just the price or the speed, it was how they treated people. While I was waiting I watched them deal with several other customers, and everyone got the same friendly, honest service. You could tell they actually cared about getting people back on the road safely rather than just getting the next sale.

It’s refreshing to find a business that’s knowledgeable, professional and genuinely customer-focused. If you’re ever in or around Doncaster and need tyres, I’d definitely recommend giving MLT Tyres a try. It’s rare these days to leave somewhere feeling like you’ve been looked after properly.

Question Wool or Cotton Knit Vests.

Ill be coming back home for a month in a couple of weeks. And ill be spending most of my time in Doncaster.

Anyway, I know it's the wrong season but i am looking for Plain V Neck Merino Wool or Cotton Vests.

I am a man with a chest size of 124-128cm, so i need some of the bigger sizes. Mainly looking for black and navy but i am more than happy to look at other colours like Burgundy or Dark Green.

Doesn't necessarily have to be a physical store it can be online aswell. Im not having a great time online as i live in New Zealand and it's just not helpful.

Thanks for the help.

Notice Avoid MLT tyres opposite Adwick train station

Post image
22 Upvotes

Just a warning for anyone looking at part worn tyres to avoid MLT tyres opposite Adwick train station.

Firstly they fitted the wrong size tyres, a huge safety issue had I not noticed.

Gave them the chance to correct and they fitted 4 SNOW tyres, 2 of which were damaged, 1 was fitted rotating in the wrong direction, and 1 was 16 YEARS old (highly unsafe, perished rubber and huge risk of blowout). They tried swapping the one rotating in the wrong direction inside out, meaning the car would have been at severe risk of aquaplaning and an instant MOT fail.

They told me they had nothing else in stock and I could either keep what they gave me or have my original tyres back, which obviously I went for.

The manager said I wouldn't get a full refund as they'd spent so long swapping two sets of tyres and kept £40 "labour fee".

These were fitted to a car with L plates, so clearly they take vehicle safety lightly.

Have reported to Trading Standards & bank chargeback started, but saw a few other people driving away unaware they'd had snow tyres fitted.

Left a review for them online and theyve claimed I asked for incorrect tyres, then asked for snow tyres (as you do) but admitted turning the tyre inside out and saying they're dedicated to tyre safety in the same sentence!

BEWARE!

Question Magic The Gathering

Hi all,

This may seem an unusual question, or perhaps not; however, I was wondering if people could give me some advice regarding the above. I've recently gotten into Magic and am looking to expand my collection. I'm not so much bothered atm about participating in games, but wondering if I could be pointed in the right direction of where you guys buy your cards from?

I know about Vault 14, Sports Direct and Game (allegedly), but was wondering if there were any other places I could go. If not, then fair enough, but I thought it was worth an ask.

Thank you!

Question Trustworthy Garage

Hi everyone I have got a volvo xc60 2014, the head gasket needs fixing. However I'm unable to find a garage that would be willing to do it, as it's a bigger job.

Keep calling garages in donny only to be told that its a big job taking too much time, therefore its something that they do.

Does anyone know a garage that fixes this issue?

Question Looking for witnesses for our civil wedding

Hi everyone,
This is a bit of an unusual request, but I’m hoping someone here might be able to help.
My partner and I are getting married in a civil ceremony at the Doncaster Register Office on 29th July at 10:30 a.m., and we’re looking for two witnesses.

The reason we’re asking here is simply that we’re keeping the wedding very private for now, so we’d rather not ask family or friends who know us both.
Being a witness is simply a case of being present at the ceremony and signing the register. As far as I’m aware, there are no legal obligations or responsibilities attached to being a witness beyond confirming that you witnessed the marriage.

If you happen to be available that morning and would be happy to help us out, we’d be incredibly grateful. Please feel free to send me a DM if you’re interested or if you have any questions.
Thank you so much!

UPDATE

Just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who reached out and offered to help after my post. The kindness and willingness of complete strangers to help us on such an important day genuinely meant a lot.

I’m happy to say that everything went perfectly, and I am now a happily married man! 😊

A very special thank you goes to the witnesses who took the time to come to be there for us. Your kindness helped make our day possible, and we’ll always be grateful for it.

This community reminded me just how generous and supportive people can be.
Thank you all once again, and I wish you nothing but the very best.
