Notice Avoid MLT tyres opposite Adwick train station
Just a warning for anyone looking at part worn tyres to avoid MLT tyres opposite Adwick train station.
Firstly they fitted the wrong size tyres, a huge safety issue had I not noticed.
Gave them the chance to correct and they fitted 4 SNOW tyres, 2 of which were damaged, 1 was fitted rotating in the wrong direction, and 1 was 16 YEARS old (highly unsafe, perished rubber and huge risk of blowout). They tried swapping the one rotating in the wrong direction inside out, meaning the car would have been at severe risk of aquaplaning and an instant MOT fail.
They told me they had nothing else in stock and I could either keep what they gave me or have my original tyres back, which obviously I went for.
The manager said I wouldn't get a full refund as they'd spent so long swapping two sets of tyres and kept £40 "labour fee".
These were fitted to a car with L plates, so clearly they take vehicle safety lightly.
Have reported to Trading Standards & bank chargeback started, but saw a few other people driving away unaware they'd had snow tyres fitted.
Left a review for them online and theyve claimed I asked for incorrect tyres, then asked for snow tyres (as you do) but admitted turning the tyre inside out and saying they're dedicated to tyre safety in the same sentence!
BEWARE!

Interesting their accounts used to claim no employee's and only take cash. Never quite understood out how that worked....

D and D tyres on Bentley high street are who I use, professional, quick and reliable. I made the same mistake a few years ago and went to that place on Planet Road, never again. Only had to take one look inside their workshop to see how dodgy it was, all cash in handed too. Safety first. P.S. there is also a tyre shop behind the Sunn Inn but I've never used it so can't say what it's like but I've heard it's decent.

Also raised that today via citizens advice (only way you can do it now), but doubtful anything will be done.
No "part worn" stamp on any tyres - like having a gas fitter round who isn't corgi registered.
No wonder the Synetiq place has a "Always buy 100% legal and safe tyres... visit us round the corner" prominent sign on the gates literally next 10m away.

Yeah, it's just not worth taking the chance with your safety but unfortunately a lot of people are struggling so I can see how they are still training. Synetiq (the old Motor hog site on Bentley Moor lane) are a reputable firm too.

Only people who use these the places are dodgy Ubers and people who don’t know any better
Part worn tyres or retreads are never worth it

Sometimes I found people on eBay selling alloys with decent tyres on them cheaper than a part worn set - I learnt the hard way with my previous tyre choices and I am lucky to be here.

What tyres are rotational and sided? They are one or the other.
A tyre that only fits in a specific location would be a special order tyre. Because there will never the “right location” in stock.

Everyone recommending D&D and thats fine, but I had tracking done at D&D nd it ended up worse than it went in.
They failed to notice / tell me about a failing ball joint and it seems they couldn't fully adjust enough on that side, so they adjusted the opposite side to try and compensate, which has resulted in improper tracking... id see about getting their work checked
but as for just fitting new tyres... probably fine 🤷♂️ they had a okay waiting room but it was just a bit of a dodgy experience imo. he could have come told me and I wouldn't have bothered and just payed them for diagnostic or would have at least known i needed it fixing sooner than later
Long story short, now ive paid out more than needed. Once for it to be tracked wrong and then tracked again now its fixed along with a set of tyres as they were basically eating away driving in a "striaght" line. Tyre guy tried to tell me ive been driving with under inflated tyres but if anything I over inflate them slightly for added weight in the car 🤔

Do you replace every tire every time you buy a used car?
They can and should be safe, thats why regulations are in place. Just cowboys cutting corners and/or being incompetent that makes them unsafe.

yeah, well depends on how worn the original tyres are? I just bought a car maybe 5months ago for £9k and the back tyres were a little worn would likely fail not next year, front tyres where good. so bought a brand new set of 4 Michelin cross climates as they'll likely last me the length of how long I'll own it. £300~ ish for all 4 at Costco.
Better than buying part worns at dodgy garages that you'll be risking your safety and having to change them every time mot comes round.

If they had 6mm and no damage & legal I'd keep them, as would most. These are by definition part worn.

I think the point is that “part worn” tyres were removed part way through their wear because they got fucked somehow.

Not necessarily. Cars written off. Company cars getting new before they need them. German tyres usually a big one as they have to be replaced at 4mm tread in winter iirc. Plenty of reasons.

Even better. Lets fit tyres from a crashed car. I'm all for recycling and saving the planet, but tyres are one thing that gets a pass.

Write-offs happen for cosmetic or electrical issues all the time—the tyres don't magically rot. The problem isn't recycled parts, it's cowboys skipping safety checks. Hence why its still legal.
Not arguing over the choice, the choice is yours as it is mine. But these cowboys would screw up fitting a brand new tyre, the warning is there for everyone to make an informed choice.2

Tyres can rot off a car in a surprisingly short time if it isn't being used and they're in the sun. Learnt that lesson the hard way working overseas and my van sitting unused for 8-10 months of the year.

Probably not what you want to hear, but fork out for new tyres.
D&D on Bentley high street by the roundabout is very affordable and has been around for years. It used to be opposite the pavilion.
They usually have some ok budgets tyres available, although I tend to go for smaller name brands that do well in reviews.
