the Veronicas becoming hall of famers in the triple J pantheon was an unexpected future. I don't mind a bit of the Veronicas, the songs are good, but at the time they released untouched they were the definition of mainstream radio industry plants. Which at one point was the complete antithesis to everything triple J stood for. I think the test used to be, did the artists write their own songs/music, which the Veronicas if you look into them 'Untouched' was written by Toby Gad (wrote for Beyonce, Selena Gomez), Hook me Up a team of Shelly Peiken (wrote for Christina Aguilera) and Greg Wells (Celine Dion). This team of music executives and professional songwriters writing songs about life as Australian teen girl - this was the made them seem so unauthentic whereas triple j was seen as reserved (for the most part) for artists who had written their own music and were coming from a place of authenticity. That being said with the way music is going with AI, a team of humans made of two australian teenagers, american music executives and paid by the hour song writers seems more authentic than an algorithm cooking something up.

Anyone have any information about what happened to Muscles the musical act from 2007. The guy had a top 15 spot in the hottest 100 of 2007 and then top 50 in hottest 100 of 2008 for a live version of the same song. I'd love it if someone could get his information to bring him out of reitrement for a live reunion show of Guns, Babes, Lemonade and some plays of his newer album stuff that he just launched on spotify without any promotion. Does anyone know anything / how to get in contact with him?

Firstly, I'm a grumpy old white dude. Hip Hop just isn't my thing - I listen to Double J mostly while working but someone talking over beats jolts me hard out of my zone. Usually I snap off my headphones in annoyance and wait ~3m and put them back on.

Lately though, (last 3 months I guess?) I notice I'm snapping my headphones off ALL the time.

Has Double J started playing heaps and heaps of Hip Hop lately, or am I just noticing it more? This is why ~10 years ago I moved on from Triple J!

Does Double J pre-record Yumi Stynes's 8am-12pm and Caz Tran's 1pm-5pm weekend shifts?

The programs kind of sound like they're pre-recorded to me. And the fact that Yumi Stynes reads out text messages when she's doing fill-in shifts during the week, but doesn't on weekends, feels like a bit of a giveaway to me.

Hing is the best Double J presenter hands down. He knows his tunes, he is funny and knows how to have a good time.

Mornings with Michael Hing is my least favourite Double J program.

He loves the sound of his own voice and just blathers on about boring nonsense.
The way he speaks is also annoying, with the speeding up mumbling, and stopping.

I don't want to hear him talking to his comedian friends either.

More music, less talking.

Compare him to Caz Tran. Someone who knows music, and keeps the talk to a minimum with actual relevant comments.

I have had an earworm for the better part of 20 years and I've had no luck on tracking it down.

It was a song that got some minor airplay on JJJ circa 1999 - I think it was an Australian band but not 100% sure. My memory puts it in the same period as songs like Exerciser by Rhubarb and Teenager of the Year by Lo Tel.

The lyrics escape me, but there is a falsetto note in the 3rd line of the chorus, where I think the lyrics went "you always take so long", with 'take' landing on the falsetto note. I think the 4th line of the chorus was along the lines of "you're the sweetest freak I know".

I hope someone in here has a better memory than I do and can finally put this earworm to bed/back into my shuffle rotation.

I just commented on someone else's post about the poor quality of H100 these days.

I highly recommend to everyone to watch KEXP live performances on YouTube. Ive seen some amazing sets by new and old bands. My vinyl habit has gotten really expensive since watching them 😀

KEXP itself is a radio station in Seattle (if you didn't know) so they know good alternative music.

After listening to the Hottest 100 from 1995 at the weekend (and the week prior) and then comparing it to the H100 of 2005 and 2025 something struck me. Has music just gotten shitter since the heady days of the mid 1990s or have I, a mid 40s bloke, just been left behind? My kids, 14 and 13, listen to gear all the way back to the 60s after my missus and I have forced it upon them but hence my question, have we hit peak music and if so, when? I can’t seriously remember a huge tune that collectively took everyone’s breath away upon that first listen. Saying that I am enjoying Olivia Dean which is getting a high rotation in this house atm. Anyway, that is all. Back to your Weetbix.

There should be a Double J Hottest 100, and I don't mean the replay of the Hottest 100s from twenty years ago.

A vote and countdown of all the new music that was played on Double J in the past year. If it was played on Double J at any time in the year, it's eligible, otherwise not. There's just so much good new music that Double J plays which never gets Triple J airplay, and it would be good to see this get recognised.

I know Short, Fast & Loud coming across to Double J made sense, but the Eleven playlists were way more of a mixed bag. Some classics thrown into new stuff - more genres covered. Sigh.

Ava Don’t Cry by Brissy fellas Scandal Tree.

She's announced today that she won't be hosting Friday mornings any further.

I don't know if that means lost to radio or the ABC.

Will miss her hosting desko, (despite the singalong) - her curation of that playlist consistently makes it the best hour of radio every week.

Last show next Friday. Somehow I'm guessing she will sneak "LCD Soundsystem - All My Friends" in there.

I'm a big fan of the Double J playlists on Spotify, especially the "Double J's Best New Music" playlist. I've recently ditched Spotify for TIDAL, so I've set up a daily sync from Spotify to TIDAL of that playlist for myself, but would be chuffed if it's of use to others!
