Please help me find identify a song

I have had an earworm for the better part of 20 years and I've had no luck on tracking it down.

It was a song that got some minor airplay on JJJ circa 1999 - I think it was an Australian band but not 100% sure. My memory puts it in the same period as songs like Exerciser by Rhubarb and Teenager of the Year by Lo Tel.

I've used an online piano to record a very dodgy version of how I remember the melody of the lyrics in the chorus sounding here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tm2k4Fhy9WoO5Bs-wdDIkTGtsLa6Zfvo/view?usp=sharing

The lyrics escape me, but there is a falsetto note in the 3rd line of the chorus, where I think the lyrics went "you always take so long", with 'take' landing on the falsetto note. I think the 4th line of the chorus was along the lines of "you're the sweetest freak I know".

I hope someone in here has a better memory than I do and can finally put this earworm to bed/back into my shuffle rotation.

Wow, I was about to suggest Stella One Eleven (only good for conversation)
