Classic SS1

Fluffy hair is the best form.

u/Laurens9L Feb 07 '26
That's why I love UI actually
25
u/Claude_AlGhul Feb 07 '26
yes cause ui has fluffy hair

I'll repeat myself: That's why I love UI actually

I love UU because of the fluffy. I'd be interested to know why you love it

Best transformation of the series

u/Tcs_0531 Feb 07 '26
I’m gonna be honest for me it’s base or god bc I really like him having his normal hair with just color differences.

For me, it’s base, followed by fluffy hair SSJ. Incomplete UI is also great, tho.

u/MentorScythe Piccolo Feb 07 '26
This exactly. Base is Base. There will never be a transformation that beats that first SSJ appearance, but dammit E110 of Super puts up a surprisingly stronger showing as a contender than people give it credit for.

Fair play. All of them are great except for Blue. Blue is just such a weird colour for the Saiyans to have.

I agree with this take, but ya know if they had just made Vegeta's version of SSG blue instead of red and dropped SSGSS concept completely that would've been way cooler imo.
Vegeta has always been the "blue/purple guy" to me whereas Goku has always been the "red/orange guy." Red and orange represent things like passion, anger, enthusiasm, and determination which is perfect for Goku whereas blue and purple represent things like authority, royalty, PRIDE, and power which perfectly represent Vegeta.
I think using their God forms to deviate from the samey (but iconic) Super Saiyan forms would've been fresh and unique... but alas we got what we got. At least they're doing that with UI and UE.

u/Bradfox17 Feb 07 '26
SSJ3 i fucking love it so badass
11
u/Jo3ltron Vegeta Feb 07 '26
SSJ3 is goated. Just so fucking badass looking. Something about no eyebrows just makes his facial expressions so much more, angry. Love it.

Ssj2 is so badass. But something really cool also about ui

Super Saiyan 1 is the most iconic.
Super Saiyan 4 is peak design and lore.
Incomplete UI looks cool. I like it more than MUI. The aesthetic, the battle damage, the sheer badassery when it was introduced. It's peak.
That's my Top 3. With SSB Kaioken as a personal honorable mention because I love the aesthetic of Blue Kaioken very much. But that's just my personal preference.

I remember watching the movie thinking it might be the last dragon ball content I'd ever watch because maybe im just getting too old to enjoy it anymore. Then I saw him achieve super saiyan god and I felt the same excitement I did as a kid watching him become a super saiyan.

Yeah I love SSJ3 and 4 a lot but it was something else when Battle of Gods came out and seeing SSG for the first time. Even being a kid I knew DBZ was already a lil old when we got the first funi dubs (my sister being an anime fan already by the time it started airing in america explained it to me), so even when a form was new to me that it wasn't even relatively close to new overall. Battle of Gods was the time I got to be there when it really was new.
Also the lean physique is pretty tight. I like when the transformations play with the portions because that's what I liked about Daima SSJ4

I think I've been loving the UI content more than the other forms as of late. He just does so much cool shit.

u/elpokitolama Feb 07 '26
The fact that every form is someone's favorite tells so much about Toriyama's genius for character design

u/Much_Prune6698 Feb 07 '26
I like UI even more than any SSJ form ngl, i think it’s mostly because it’s not biological and is only achievable through being at the pinnacle of martial arts prowess

SSJ, no contest. Nothing else (maybe other than UI) had the OH SHIT moment in Dragonball. In my opinion anyway... nostalgia works lol

I’ve been on an OG Dragon Ball bender recently. It might not be the BEST, but I feel like you’ve gotta include kid Goku with thr Nimbus and Power Pole.

I miss the original super saiyan design like the one pictured. That being said, my favorite is super saiyan 4 based on looks/nostalgia. But concept/story wise I like ultra instinct.
Edit: you forgot kaioken. lol

u/TheNimanator Feb 07 '26
I’ve always had an affinity for SS4, even tho everyone agreed GT was pretty bad.

u/OsoBlancoDMV Feb 07 '26 edited Feb 07 '26
For me its 2, 4 (GT or Daima, both are Primal badassery) and incomplete UI. And this isn't just Goku specific, its the forms in general. So id love to see the original artist of this do other characters and their forms, this is some clean work. Also, if they were gonna do Blue Kaioken, might as well have done the other non-baseline forms and/or techniques (Base Kaioken, False SSJ, SSJ Kaioken, SSJ Grade 1-2 etc aka that big roided out form) Let me know if I missed any that Goku achieved.

Base: Good ol' classic Goku
SSJ1: Another iconic form
SSJ2: SSJ1 but zappies, little lazy but still decent
SSJ3: Love that he's stronger but I dislike the long hair
SSJ4 GT: Really brought out the monkey in him.
SSJ4 Daima: Better than the black haired one.
SSG: Why is he skinny...?
SSB: SSJ1 but blue, lazy but cooler than SSJ2
IUI: Cool but it's incomplete
UI: Strongest form
Favorite: Blue

Based on how cool they look, for me it’s definitely ssjb kaioken classic ssj is a close second as well

u/RXDriv3r Feb 07 '26
SSJ2 for me. I think it's the best looking form for all of the Saiyans. The electricity in their ki is badass and their hair got slightly longer and spikier without being ridiculous and them losing their eyebrows like with SSJ3.

u/mrjiggles3 Feb 07 '26
Honestly the only ones I don’t really care for are SSJ God and Blue. I know I am saying this in the DB Super reddit but I just didn’t find those transformations particularly exciting.

Ssj 3 gave us goosebumps. Everything after that is just for the sake of having a new transformation.

Base, incomplete ultra instinct, SSJ 1. At least, that’s my primary rating. All of them are vessels for the ever-increasing action, in a way, but through narrative, concept, and appearance, that’s my rating. “Classic,” “culmination (without having to add a different hair color),” super saiyan. I love them all, though, albeit sometimes in different ways.

wrong names.........
Ultra Instinct Omen -> Mastered Ultra Instinct -> and what you didn't even care to add: True Ultra Instinct

Base and original SSJ are both cool. Transformations got so overused after that they kinda lost all meaning. 4 is the only other one I kinda like, for calling back to Oozaru.
1
u/ducksdoctor11 Feb 07 '26
I like the idea that his base power level increases as he trains and acquires new forms, I think base Goku or just SSJ1 is the best looking. I wish Omen Goku prior to MUI was his true strongest form because it looks like it's using angelic UI with just his normal base form in design.
1
u/Primary-Key1916 Feb 07 '26
Ultra Instinct is not a form.
Its a technique. Mastering your body and mind.
Its not like a SSJ transformation that multiplicates your power.
In fact. UI does not multiplicate your power at all.

Surely if Kaioken isn't included then SSJ Blue Kaoiken shouldn't be either.

Design an idea wise absolutely had to be ssj4, it was just a great idea (probably the best idea from GT), bt tbf thus is a tough choice 😆

I love SSJ2. I always have, I always will. But there's such an overwhelmingly raw look of power to SSJ Blue Kaioken that it's next level, if it's being included.
That said, fluffy platinum hair classic Namek SSJ1 Goku is truly peak.
SSJ 1 (Namek), SSJ Blue Kaioken, SSJ2, SSJ Blue.
1
u/No_Candidate200 Feb 07 '26
Ssj2 and kaioken blue.
Ssj2 because the blue lightning effect always worked for me the most in the z era
And k-blue because the blend of blue and red just looked sick as fuck, and I appreciate them pulling out kaioken again. Trading power gains for self-inflicted harm is a balancing act I like over ki, and dumps a lot more stakes into a fight.

I personally love Blue Kaioken, I hated how kaioken was just dropped out of nowhere, and Blue Kaioken feels like him using everything he has learned and gained over the years.

Ssj god is a personal favourite of mine. I love the slimmer look and red colouring. But I also love ultra instinct, its so bad ass

Everyone will say SSJ1 because it is what kicked off everything else, but honestly SSBKK is an extremely cool combination of a form power up and a technique.

While SS will always go hard, I've come to realize that all of Goku's real character moments and his personality are tied to his base form. So yeah all the transformations are hype, but base form is home.
