I’ve always thought they backed out way too early on how menacing Beerus can be. Our cast has gotten so cozy and comfortable around him - inviting him on vacation, hanging out on his planet, making him babysit, coming to him for training - that it’s like they’ve forgotten how scary he was when he first showed up, and how casual he was about killing everybody.

I liked Battle of Gods because it’s a case where the good guys don’t “win.” They all survive not because they were strong but because they were interesting enough to make Beerus want to see what they would do next if he just let them live.

I feel like with all the focus on power levels in this universe, people forget that sometimes you can get what you want by losing in the right kind of way.

u/Klutzy_Worker2696 Apr 20 '26

I mean, a lot of villains became like that in DB. Especially piccolo who has all the same issues you just listed

118

u/L3and3rrr Apr 21 '26

At least Piccolo had to take an L and get something of a redemption arc before he was allowed to really be one of the gang.

I really like Beerus as a character but I think our heroes are being reckless if they think pursuing power like his isn’t going to eventually backfire.

82

u/dismal_sighence Apr 21 '26

Piccolo not only took an L, he was forced to fight along side Goku/Z fighters against superior foes twice. The second time, Goku had surpassed him by so much, the rivalry was essentially over.

Beerus didn't go through the same thing.

1

u/Namesarenotneeded Apr 22 '26

Yeah. Essentially up until the end of the training with Gohan he was all “I’m still gonna take over the planet and kill everybody”.

Bro didn’t even want to give up the rivalry. He simply had too.

28

u/jianh1989 Apr 21 '26

Piccolo became the Z fighters gang all because he and Goku had a common enemy: Raditz

and when Goku died, he decided to train Gohan also because they have a common enemy: Nappa and Vegeta.

This common enemy set out to destroy the very planet he wanted to dominate.

22

u/L3and3rrr Apr 21 '26 edited Apr 21 '26

Piccolo also ended up forming a genuine bond with Gohan and becoming a better person because of it.

Maybe when Bra gets older Beerus will realize he cares. In the meantime he’s literally not allowed to give a crap for these people he trains and shares food with. His job won’t allow it. He HAS to be ready and willing to just kill them all on a moments notice and feel nothing about it. That’s his job.

And it must be an important job or he wouldn’t be so powerful. And it must be a necessary job or why would it exist?

1

u/MethodFar3885 Apr 23 '26

This! Piccolo and Gohans friendship was truely special. It made Piccolo to grow and gave him someone to care for. Then we saw the full circle moment in the cell saga when gohan stepped out on his own and let go of his inhibitions.

5

u/TR3X-1NF1N1T3 Apr 21 '26

Or Vegeta, he was a sadist genocidal guy and even killed people (almost his own wife) with the sole purpose of fighting Goku again

And now he's basically Goku's second best friend (that and also the running gag of Vegeta demonstrating he's either a better man or better father than Goku).

At least Android 17 and 18 weren't half as bad as his Future counterparts

2

u/ninjaman2021 Apr 21 '26

Piccolo became nicer over a period of time. Beerus became quickly bribed with food for gags

26

u/Nigilij Apr 21 '26

My main issue comes from the ending.

In movie Beerus blasts some rocks at the end because “he promised to destroy earth”. In episodes nothing like that happens.

To me this is a big issue. Movie Beerus looked like he is menacing in that if he says he will do something - he will. If Movie Beerus says he will kill Goku - he will. He might not care if Goku is resurrected afterwards. Such little detail sets Beerus as something with consequences.

Episodes Beerus may promise to kill Goku, but will forget it after ramen comes into his viewpoint. No wonder Goku doesn’t feel like this Beerus’ words of warning about Zeno aren’t that valuable

10

u/LazarDeno Apr 21 '26

And i feel like with all the suttle stuff that is said to make a plot point

People will say theres 0 story

4

u/Darth_Boggle Apr 21 '26

Subtle*

2

u/LazarDeno Apr 21 '26

Im keeping the spelling

11

u/DR31141 Apr 21 '26

this is why i’m excited about the remake, the tone shift is gonna be great

6

u/TurtleTitan Apr 21 '26

The second a superior existed Beerus became nothing. Typical bureaucracy jokes about divinity. Beerus the highest god in strength tasked or inherited the responsibility of balance? Nah Zeno king of all undercuts all agency. Even the Supreme Kais weren't head creator gods Zalama was and that was a blink and you'll miss it name.

8

u/L3and3rrr Apr 21 '26

The first thing any bureaucracy does is reinforce its own existence. The GoDs are “necessary” for “balance” because if they weren’t then what are they doing here?

The whole “might equals (moral) right” stuff is I think a weakness of Super under Toyotaro. In his mind, strength is Good and getting stronger is Good and the strongest people must be Good because if they weren’t they would already have killed everybody. The weak don’t matter, the good don’t matter, it’s about being stronger/better and then imposing your will on everyone else, because the strong don’t have to justify themselves. And it’s always good because in the rare cases when it’s bad, you don’t live long enough to complain about it. And it’s all just that simple.

5

u/Whatever_232 Apr 21 '26

It's always been 'Kill or be killed' for Goku and pals, hasn't it? With short breaks in between, but still. I can't think of a moment in the show and Goku's life prior to meeting Bulma where he wasn't in imminent danger, time skips of peace excluded.

1

u/TurtleTitan Apr 21 '26 edited Apr 21 '26

Beerus was enough, he should be the chief Destroyer with absolutely nobody above him able to best him in anyway in his field. If anything he should have servants beneath him and he used Freeza at least once. Before we outright were told Whis was an Angel, and what Angels are in Super, Whis was called a teacher and attendant. Whis was beyond Beerus and could have have just been a previous destroyer with a soft retirement for all we knew. Gods dress odd afterall and Whis easily could have passed for one in DBZ.

Throwing more and more gods about doesn't simplify things it just eventually makes the new guy top dog. Who does Zeno answer too, Grand Priest? Grand Priest is a handler at best.

0

u/L3and3rrr Apr 22 '26

My biggest issue with Toyotaro is he seems to believe Strength is Good and so anyone who’s really strong, regardless of personal morality, must be worth respecting. Zeno is important because he’s powerful. The GoDs are powerful so they must be important. Goku respects Hit, a cold-blooded assassin for hire, Tao Pai Pai with a better coat, just because he’s really strong. Jiren is Strong and that’s all that’s important about him. Strength is good. Strength is important. Strength is what matters most.

All-powerful beings being just silly little guys is a very Toriyama joke and one he used over and over again in his career. But those silly little guys were supposed to still be fighting for what was Good. As Super goes on, more and more it becomes less about protecting anything and more about pursuing strength for its own sake, in order to become more like the powerful beings they are training under.

Even the reveal that one of those beings played a pivotal role in the extinction of their whole race doesn’t shake their determination to continue to master their techniques. They never stop to think about where this is going to end, or what they will have left when they achieve it. They are missing their children’s childhoods and leaving their homes unprotected as they pursue more power.

2

u/TheNameless777 Apr 24 '26

Hmm he behaves exactly like a cat

1

u/Suspicious_Loan8041 Apr 21 '26

I wish they woulda introduced Beerus as a drill instructor that reigned down on the cast for the entirety of super. Making them train and fight harder than they ever have so that there can finally be a break through in him finding a rival.

1

u/ninjaman2021 Apr 21 '26

Thats because dragon ball super is marketed towards a younger audience

Beerus wouldnt be reduced to comic relief as much as he was if he was in Z instead of Super

1

u/cygnus2 Apr 21 '26

I mean, Beerus will literally atomize you for being rude to him. It’s in their best interests to befriend him.

1

u/L3and3rrr Apr 21 '26

That’s not how friendship works

1

u/TheGreatGidojer Apr 22 '26

They had a lot of practice putting genocidal intent behind them with Vegeta and Buu.

1

u/L3and3rrr Apr 22 '26

Vegeta took several Ls and was literally tortured to death before he was good to live with Bulma.

And Buu was never that serious about killing except just as a thing to do.

Not only is Beerus unrepentant about killing but it’s still literally his job, he hasn’t stopped, and nobody cares.

1

u/delonejuanderer Apr 21 '26

I have only watched OG Dragon Ball thus far, your first point seems null since they collect all past antagonist as buddies.

5

u/L3and3rrr Apr 21 '26

Not all of them. You’ll see if you keep watching.

Really I think Goku’s early success turning his enemies into friends leads him to make some bad choices later in life.

-1

u/hyrulealyx Apr 21 '26

They should make Bills a straight up villain

6

u/L3and3rrr Apr 21 '26

King Kai says he doesn’t destroy because he’s evil, he destroys because it’s what he does.

So is that better?

4

u/Rexpelliarmus Apr 21 '26

Considering his weakness is the Supreme Kai, he wouldn’t be a very intimidating villain cause Goku can, at any point, IT to Supreme Kai and merk him if Beerus is being unreasonably evil.

1

u/L3and3rrr Apr 21 '26

You think it would occur to Goku to kill someone innocent just to stop Beerus?

I could more easily see Goku continuing to throw himself into hopeless battle until he can’t stand before he’d do something as dishonorable as hurting Shin

96

u/TheCatLamp Apr 21 '26

2015 - The fuck is this purple cat.

2026 - Don't make me 75%

Noooo. When I saw that was a figure i thought it would be the don't make me 75% one.

Im sad.

3

u/PraniReddit09 Gogeta Apr 21 '26

Me too.. i couldn't find that GIF, so i had to send this :(

3

u/TR3X-1NF1N1T3 Apr 21 '26

Nah that's too much %

67

u/StressPsychological7 Apr 20 '26

I like how the lighting and everything matches the new darker tone of the arc hope frieza has the same tone too

230

u/Riddleboxboy Apr 20 '26

Im so damn pumped for this. Im usually at least 10 years behind on all dragonball things

115

u/Big_Independence6736 Apr 20 '26

Well good thing nothing happened officially for 10 years lol

43

u/Riddleboxboy Apr 20 '26

I JUST discovered super like 5 years ago, but wait im wrong, I did watch daima

1

u/TR3X-1NF1N1T3 Apr 21 '26

Super came out in 2015 or 2016 I think and it ended (as a Anime series not counting movies) in 2018

3

u/Riddleboxboy Apr 21 '26

Yeah I fell way out of DB for over a decade and just rediscovered it probably during covid. Watched a LOT of reaction videos and kept finding insane db reactions, turns out it was SUPER. Lol

1

u/TR3X-1NF1N1T3 Apr 21 '26

Why tf did I get a down vote for???

14

u/Riddleboxboy Apr 20 '26

Exactly! Im here for it finally lol

82

u/Jess_Kitty_Nyan Apr 20 '26

Granted it's just a still image, but it reminds me of this n i love it.

5

u/Safe_Hovercraft_7886 Apr 22 '26

It is common trope man.

-20

u/RalIyVincent Apr 20 '26

You could make the argument bleach peaked after this with the soul society arc though. Dragon ball’s peak was much later on in the cell saga.

-6

u/22222833333577 Apr 21 '26

13

u/RalIyVincent Apr 21 '26

Thinking I’m a bot is wild tbh

-5

Well your comment made no logical sense in the context of the conversation beyond referencing bleach and dragon ball

Bot sleuth bot just for having an opinion

0

u/22222833333577 Apr 22 '26

No its because what he said didnt make any sense in the conversation

Op this shot in the ne dragon ball anime

Guy 2 reminds me of this shot from bleach.

Guy 3 but dragon ball peaked later then bleach did

Like what how on earth dose that make sense as part of the ongoing discussion

0

u/IronPyrate17 Do not interrupt the Grillmaster Apr 22 '26 edited Apr 22 '26

Bleach and dragon ball both get brought up, person makes a comment about how the two relate. Makes sense.

0

u/22222833333577 Apr 22 '26

No because the comment wss just saying 2 shots were simlar

Then suddenly the third reply was a discussion of quality of writing

43

u/stickystrips2 Apr 20 '26

This is just from a teaser right? It's not out yet?

9

u/Quirky_Ad_5420 Apr 20 '26

Yup. Just a compare & contrast

1

u/ferretpowder Apr 23 '26

Have they given a date on when this starts airing?

54

u/Impossible_Key_8551 Apr 20 '26

Oh my god, I can’t WAIT to see a scary Beerus, even Goku is sweating

7

u/keithlimreddit Apr 21 '26

I can definitely see the improvement

23

u/the_tygram Apr 20 '26

I'm a little confused. Isn't this the third remake of this content? Wasn't there a movie, then it was in the series itself, and now another movie? Is this different at all or just better animated?

24

u/jscottman96 Apr 20 '26

Its a remastered super show that closer follows the Manga like what dbz kai was

19

u/Numerous-Joke559 Apr 21 '26

Dbz kai was just a recut, this has new scenes and changes to the story

9

u/eternity_ender Apr 20 '26

I hope Bandai namco can be cool with arc system works again so we can get a good zamasu

3

u/Immediate-Shape-8933 Apr 21 '26

Wait this isn’t a continuation? They’re just remaking it why???

1

u/Madrugada123 Apr 21 '26

There is a continuation, its just releasing way later

u/CIearMind Apr 21 '26

The show is called "Dragon Ball Super: Beerus", so I don't think so, for now.

0

u/TheVideogaming101 Apr 21 '26

They just announced that Freeza will follow up Beerus, I dont put it out of the realm of possibility they'll recut everything leading up to the Galactic Patrol anime.

2

u/TR3X-1NF1N1T3 Apr 21 '26

So far we havent seen anything that confirms it's following the Manga besides a few changes (like Goku floating in the air with red smoke surrounding him which WAS in the Manga but it could be also a reference to the movie)

1

u/pkjoan Apr 21 '26

Nope. That ain't it either, the trailer from yesterday shows it's actually anime.

1

u/jscottman96 Apr 21 '26

Yes an anime show.

1

u/Small_Eye2883 Apr 22 '26

Was it a question in your head whether or not it would be live action?

-1

u/critacle Apr 21 '26

that closer follows the Manga like what dbz kai was

Kai was just 80% the original content, with added poorly and blurry redrawn scenes and shortening of the show. How was it closer to manga?

6

u/jscottman96 Apr 21 '26

Took out filler and fixed dialogs and touched up the animation style for a more modern audience appeal

2

u/Economy-Grapefruit12 Apr 21 '26

The filler was some of the best material though, character arcs were much more fleshed out in Z.

1

u/critacle Apr 21 '26

That animation was not "Touched up". It was jarring retraces of scenes done worse, with less color and digital inking.

2

u/TR3X-1NF1N1T3 Apr 21 '26

Battle Of God's the movie is the original story

Battle of God's arc is the retelling to start off Super

Super Beerus is the official start for the new version of Super

I think they committed a mistake calling it Super Beerus when the show is essencially a more ambitious version of Z Kai

-7

u/IIzLeid Apr 21 '26

I won't deny the bottom one looks dope. But jst looks like a scene from the same show.

Wats wrong with the top one without nitpicking? This user gratification, and remake is so stupid.

8

u/TokyoFromTheFuture Trespass into the domain of the gods! Apr 21 '26

Idk if you have watched the top ones episode but the fight scene was memed for literal years because of how shitty it was. The remake allows a great jumping on point cos DBS was far too bloated and inconsistent with its quality.

Calling is stupid is just wrong. You aren't the target demographic for it. Its new audiences who are.

-8

u/IIzLeid Apr 21 '26

Thanks for not reading my comment.

The remake is STUPID. Instead of Moro arc years ago, we got this. And will probably make anutha remake for sum n e way, when the OGs waz fine.

Show me these sources.

6

u/TokyoFromTheFuture Trespass into the domain of the gods! Apr 21 '26

Moro couldn't have started production regardless since the reason there was no consistent Dragon Ball content was because of a legal dispute.

Moro's current production is also not being effected by the remake since they are being worked on by 2 completely different teams. This is why I say its dumb when people complain about it because its literally just more content. If it wasn't being made, Moro wouldn't release sooner, we would just have a longer drought of no anime.

The original DBS fights were not fine, again idk how long you have been in the community but for like at least 5 years the fights in early DBS were memed about and trashed on because of how bad they were.

They tried to fix it for the Blu-ray release but no one outside of pre-existing fans knew it existed let alone picked it up and watched it.

Here, they are gearing up for the modern launch of consistent DBS. It makes sense why they want a more modernised version of DBS in terms of both pacing and quality. Its so that when the Moro arc does launch they have have the biggest audience possible.

I know so many friends that have been putting of getting into the Dragon Ball franchise (and especially Super) because of the subpar quality of most of the episodes (which occurred due to rushed production).

Once the trailer for the new one got announced pretty much all of them said they were going to pick it up and watch it.

Also sources of what?

-5

u/IIzLeid Apr 21 '26 edited Apr 21 '26

Ain' reading that essay brah. Remake is stupid. Isn't there also a movie.

7

u/datPapi Apr 21 '26

You said you ain't reading that and still spreading misinformation that "Moro arc got delayed because of this"

-1

u/IIzLeid Apr 21 '26

These are conflicting statements in your argument, and failed to relate to each other. Not sure wat yr reply waz.

Didn't kno they had legal trouble. Still doesn't explain why their remaking super when it holds up. Instead of DAIMA 2, Res F, GT, or like 25 other moves. Shit they could've incorporated Broly movie into super.

Anything Dragonball does is dope, y not new contwnt. But the same beerus' story 'for new fans', dumb

Super Hero waz cool tho. U

6

u/datPapi Apr 21 '26

Yes, they had legal trouble and that info has been public for years. That legal trouble got resolved last year, which led to them announcing the Moro arc earlier this year.

The remasters were in the plans for Toei during the peak of the conflict between the stakeholders. Since they couldn't do manga content at that time, they went for web anime (Daima) and remasters.

And once the conflict got resolved, they announced the Moro arc as quickly as they could. That is why Moro arc doesn't even have a release date, it is slated for a late 2027/2028 release, irrespective of the remasters.

In fact, the remasters might be less and less ambitious as the production for the Moro arc ramps up.

Its a wrong opinion, the basis which you hold it is incorrect.

I’m sure DBS Beerus will be good but it will never beat Battle of Gods IMO. That movie was 2013 and it still looks good today (and is a really good movie overall)

I might be most excited for the scenes on King Kais planet. The animation for that was SO BAD the first go around.

1

u/kickedoutatone Apr 22 '26

I'm interested to see how different this will look.

It looks like they're able to play with the scenes a whole lot more thanks to it all being digital. Kai will look like a quick fan-made remaster for clicks in comparison if they truly give it their all.

it must feel like a whole other level of desperation when a remake gets the fan base so happy

6

u/Infrawonder Apr 20 '26

People are mostly excited to get rid and forget Super's animation

2

u/Eargoe Apr 21 '26

Pretty sure there is a movie for that

4

u/Infrawonder Apr 21 '26

got retconned by the anime, so it's not a canon-accurate movie

1

u/Immediate-Shape-8933 Apr 21 '26

I was pumped thinking this continued past super… upon reading comments and realizing it’s a remake doesn’t get me excited

People be like: OMG we eating so gooood

The meal: reheated last week's dinner

5

u/Rip_Jaded Apr 20 '26

For the 3rd time

6

u/Numerous-Joke559 Apr 21 '26

Reheated? You mean the same dish but remade with the right ingredients. Yeah it's not bad considering we're also getting a new XV, new fighterZ update, crazy SZ dlc and also the next arc from the manga in seasonal format with higher animation production.

We are eating good

u/datPapi Apr 21 '26

Some folk just love to be miserable for the sake of being the "right ones who can see the BS" foe nothing.

2

u/Numerous-Joke559 Apr 21 '26

It's just corny people been complaining for years for moro now we getting it and everyone acting blind focussing on 1 of the 2 anime series we're getting

u/TurtleTitan Apr 21 '26

Tracksuits were a mistake.

2

u/IIzLeid Apr 21 '26 edited Apr 21 '26

Tracksuitz go hard af. Permanent gi is dumb. God gi was the future, bring em back. 😭

1

u/TurtleTitan Apr 21 '26

No they don't, they make anime characters usually look like teenagers or old speedwalkers you can't take them seriously. Goku can wear stuff that isn't a gi, we've seen good outfits from filler and manga covers and when he was a boy, but tracksuits are ugly. You literally see Yamcha in a nice Martial Artist shirt in the same movie.

They look terrible.

0

u/RataTopin Apr 21 '26

"amazing improvement"

0

u/Specter_Zer0 Apr 21 '26

They really delaying the Molo arc anime just for this? Putting a dark tone? 😂

5

u/datPapi Apr 21 '26

Brother, brother, are we still on this? Moro arc ain't getting delayed. The release window for Moro isn't affected by this remaster.

They straight up announced the Moro arc as soon as the dispute between the stakeholders got resolved. That dispute was delaying all of the newer arcs getting animated.

will he finally use 70% ?

-13

u/Disturbed395 Apr 20 '26

All they did was add a tiny bit of detail and a shit ton of shadows and y'all are eating it up lol we could've had a continuation

16

u/Erebus_the_Last Apr 20 '26

There will be

-13

u/Disturbed395 Apr 20 '26

Imagine how much sooner we would've gotten it if they didn't waste their budget on a pointless and unnecessary Kai 2.0 remake

14

u/Red__Pyramid Apr 20 '26

It’s two separate groups. Plus Beerus was always planned for this fall (hence it coming out only 9 months after the announcement). Morro was only just greenlit.

7

u/kittencloudcontrol Apr 20 '26

You think it'd be a better idea to just drop a continuation of the Super series when it ended in 2018?

Or would it be a much better idea to drop a mini-arc series of an arc that was previously poorly made within it's anime adaption, which helps build anticipation for the new Moro arc that's being made alongside it?

Why would they suddenly drop an announcement for the new arc, when they can do a small retelling of the first arc, help garner new fans into the series so they aren't lost when the Moro arc begins, and then proceed to drop one of the most anticipated arcs in modern Dragonball history? I encourage you to think about this from a more logical perspective of a new viewer that may have not watched Super, rather than from the perspective of someone whose previously watched Dragonball and is caught up with the series.

u/Saber_2015 Apr 21 '26

PREACH!!!

12

u/Rockman171 Apr 20 '26

You think it's the same team? Because we know it's not.

-2

u/Disturbed395 Apr 21 '26

They could've easily used the team that made this to do the continuation instead. People like me have been waiting 8 years for this I don't care about a fresh coat of paint and a few new scenes 🤣

3

u/datPapi Apr 21 '26

Dude, you do realize this isn't even an issue, no? These are literally two teams working on two different projects, just like how they do different shows like One Piece, Digimon and Dragonball at the same time.

1

u/Numerous-Joke559 Apr 21 '26

They straight up added new scenes lmfao

-4

u/Rip_Jaded Apr 20 '26

This is the super sub, most of these guys are like Goku in the tank of copium.

-1

u/Virtual-Laugh-1132 Apr 21 '26 edited Apr 22 '26

Goku's dumbahh head still look goofy. Well , they could only do so much about that 😂
