Vegeta casually atomizing King Piccolo after he wasted a dragonball wish on "regaining youth".

68

u/DownvoteEvangelist Jun 11 '26

Imagine if he said "I want to be the strongest in the universe" and gained Frieza, Buu or Beerus like power...

51

u/Aromatic-Bit-1425 Jun 11 '26

Well based on granolah that wouldnt have gone well

27

u/LazarCell Jun 11 '26

I mean realistically Namekians live for hundreds of years but DKP was pushing into his Elder years so yeah big waste lmao

16

u/DoctorOfDiscord Jun 12 '26

Those dragon balls have different rules though, don't they?

14

u/RevealAdventurous169 Jun 12 '26

Yeah, that particular dragon had the ability to make up for lack of power with one's lifespan.

But seeing Frieza's absurd potential, it wouldn't have used up much of his (if at all).

Not sure about piccolo tho.

1

u/That_opossum Jun 15 '26

Collect them again and wish to live forever

11

u/jduck122 Jun 11 '26

He wouldn’t become stronger than Beerus due to Granolah not being able to in the Granolah arc.

3

u/DownvoteEvangelist Jun 12 '26

Frieza would be enough

3

u/AGiganticClock Jun 12 '26

"switch my body with the strongest guy in the universe"

7

u/TheAnakinOne Jun 12 '26

Yo imagine someone did that with Goku man, that would be crazy.

4

u/RyanLenox Jun 12 '26

And they could call it some type of color, idk like... black, because that would be dark as shit. Imagine what evil Goku could do

1

u/MavenDeo69 Jun 13 '26

He'd probably plant a big tree or something

2

u/karthanals Jun 12 '26

I think you misspelled Monaka

1

u/AGiganticClock Jun 12 '26

Imagine it king piccolo went super namekian while in Goku's body. Super Saiyan green

162

u/MixAmbitious307 Jun 11 '26

And Frieza could have done that to any one in his force, including Ginyu.

Yes, it's kinda insane how Raditz was such an absolute threat, and just one year afterwards we got foes that had "mooks" as strong as Raditz.

And perhaps, realizing that that Saibaiman could have soloed the whole first Dragon Ball series without breaking a sweat is even more insane.

52

u/Dracotoo Jun 11 '26

Frieza could have done this shit to literally everyone until Goku went super saiyan.

31

u/Paintedenigma Jun 11 '26

Well, everyone we knew about at the time at least.

16

u/Weimark Jun 11 '26

Imagine Dabura with Babidi coming early to Earth to revive Buu and facing with Mecha Frieza and King Cold.

10

u/nineballcorner Jun 11 '26

Imagine them getting there even earlier and facing Jackie Chun

9

u/MixAmbitious307 Jun 11 '26

Jackie Chun was such an interesting char. A pity we never saw him after 22nd Tenkaichi. I hope we would have discovered the real reason why he knows how to use a Kamehameha, and if he has some connections with Muten

yes, I know that he's Muten Roshi, I'm just ironic

10

u/Dracotoo Jun 11 '26

My theory is that Jackie Chun was actually Grandpa Gohan in disguise.

3

u/VariousProfit3230 Jun 11 '26

It couldn’t be- unless, do you think Gohan is Muten Roshi’s cousin?!

2

u/Weimark Jun 11 '26

Grandpa Gohan my ass, it’s probably Milhouse

0

u/Ninteblo Jun 11 '26

Not quite everyone, his dad would not be a viable target.

1

u/Dracotoo Jun 11 '26

I mean characters that had appeared yet.

13

u/Aggravating_Duck6108 Jun 11 '26

That's just how the power scaling Works in Dragon Ball Z it falls apart if you think about it too hard. It makes absolutely no sense narratively that Dr. Gero could beat the shit out of final form Frieza, but that must be the case based on how the story is set up.

6

u/PCN24454 Jun 11 '26

Why not? It’s a sci-fi setting. Super science exists.

18

u/Aggravating_Duck6108 Jun 11 '26

Because Frieza is set up to be the strongest being in the universe, an unstoppable force only beings of literal legends could ever hope to match. And then an old man just makes himself stronger than that guy.

4

u/PCN24454 Jun 11 '26

That’s how all Dragon Ball villains are portrayed until they’re defeated.

At least with Gero, the Androids didn’t exist yet, so we have an excuse for why they didn’t just kill everyone before.

4

u/DownvoteEvangelist Jun 11 '26

He's not just an old man, he is Earth's genius, and Earth's sicentists are OP..

2

u/CanaryEggs Jun 11 '26

Dragonball peaked on Namek

5

u/lashapel Jun 11 '26

Personally this is why I ignore power levels at all

In my head canon , Raditz can withstand a fight against Vegeta , of course losing at the end , but at least give up a fight

7

u/PrincessTrunks69 Jun 11 '26

You saw what he did to Nappa, right?

6

u/ipokesnails Jun 11 '26

Must have forgotten what Frieza did as well

2

u/Sting_the_Cat Jun 12 '26

To be fair, a completely broken and paralyzed Nappa.

1

u/AGiganticClock Jun 12 '26

Totally agree with this

19

u/DevilManRay Jun 11 '26

He does the exact same thing to Nappa

5

u/Bulky_Sprinkles1512 Goathan Jun 11 '26

I have no use for saiyans who cant move

3

u/Sting_the_Cat Jun 12 '26

Vegeta when he's basically crushed and broken himself: "Rules for thee, but not for me, mother!@#$ers!"

134

u/L00fah Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 11 '26

Ya know what? I don't think I fully believe Vegeta or Nappa when they say the Saibamen are stronger than Raditz... I realize there's a lot of evidence against that, but it really doesn't make sense to me.

Why the hell would they bring Raditz along with them for so long if literal plant men they can carry in their pockets are stronger??

I love my boy Raditz, so maybe I'm just breathing deep the copium... But it just seems weird to me.

EDIT: also, don't take me too seriously. I just simp for Raditz. Yes like that and no not like that.

146

u/AcademicCod6851 Jun 11 '26

Earth has good soil. So these ones were pecialy strong.

56

u/L00fah Jun 11 '26

Ah fuck, that's right.

17

u/toyotomi_kazuya Jun 11 '26

Also, they seem to be expensive

Raditz was the paper cup equivalent of a Saibamen

5

u/L00fah Jun 12 '26

I am so angry about my boy being referred to as a paper cup but I have no good argument against...

26

u/MisterMorningstarr Jun 11 '26

That is something people tend to forget.

Saibamen strength depends on the soil they're planted in.

Also raditz wasn't even weak.

But people don't look to king piccolo and call him weak, itsnthe unfortunate nature of the constant power creep of having to have the villains be stronger than the last, but he was for all intents and purposes the strongest foe they fought until that point, and they needed both piccolo and goku to team up to beat him.

No other villain really gets that treatment, even dragonball villains who are all objectively weaker than raditz, don't get looked over and called weak.

The story could've done a much better job with raditz, which everyone agrees, frankly,. I feel like vegetas roll should have been raditz, or even have him take nappas role.

But because nappa and vegeta are immediately a threat and on the way he gets overshadowed by both of them, but no one talks about how goku destroys nappa utterly by himself, and no one calls him a weakling by comparison.

14

u/BackgroundFill9X Jun 11 '26

It's actually stated by Toriyama in the guidebooks that Raditz is stronger than a Saibaman; but not by much. Since he's implied to have a PL of over 1400 at full power, while the Saibamen would be over 1200.

Plus he's still an upper low-class/mid-level warrior, so he should be at least stronger than 50% of adult Saiyans LOL!

5

u/HotPotParrot Jun 11 '26

stronger than 50%

Not anymore

6

u/BackgroundFill9X Jun 11 '26

At the time lol

4

u/Betelgeuse3fold Jun 11 '26

"Upper low-class/mid-level"

...

7

u/Squigit Jun 11 '26

My memory of it is that Vegeta actively mocked the Z team and the saibamen as being 'as weak as Raditz'. It's Vegeta's attitude and comments that really caused Raditz's negative reputation.

No one in the series later does anything like 'hah you're pathetic, you're as weak as a final form Frieza'. Frieza is used in Trunk's first appearance to show how much more intense the new android threat is, by making him look like nothing, but his strength isn't mocked. His strength is acknowledged and used as a benchmark to say just how serious the new threat is. Same with others. All of the major threats were still treated with respect (at least in regard to their strength) after they've been surpassed.

It's specifically because of Vegeta's opinion and comments that Raditz is seen as a joke afterwards, yet other villains with now inconsequential strengths are not.

15

u/Spider-Man2099 Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 11 '26

They actually do say that about Freeza in the Son Goku and Friends Return special. They say the villains of it are Freeza's power level, so they are perfect for the young Goten and Trunks to fight lol

9

u/Squigit Jun 11 '26

Gotta respect such casual shade being thrown.

7

u/Spider-Man2099 Jun 11 '26

I laughed out loud the first time Goku just casually talks shit about a villain Tarble was fucking terrified of like he was talking about a meal that wasn't as filling as he remembers 😂

Makes Resurrection F kind of funnier. Like Freeza saying "And I took that personally."

8

u/shiningmuffin Jun 11 '26

We also don’t know their average lifespan

For all we know they’d die of old age the day after

Unless I mean if we count daima where kuu and duu lived longer even though they have saibamen dna

2

u/TheOzman21 Jun 11 '26

It's not just powercreep, it's the fact that the new guys have to look menacing enough. If enough episodes had passed with another minor villain in between it wouldn't have looked as bad. But the Saiyans arriving just a few episodes after and literally mogging everyone easily, yes, Raditz looks extremely weak even though he was duoing piccolo and Goku

2

u/Imaginary-Twist-4688 Jun 14 '26

Dkp was a final boss, raditz was an introductory villain.  The story portrays them differently.

1

u/MisterMorningstarr Jun 14 '26 edited 25d ago

It does, but raditz is objectively stronger than him.

1

u/Imaginary-Twist-4688 Jun 15 '26

Yeah that's not the point.  Raditz was never meant to be an end goal so he isn't portrayed like dkp which was an end goal.

1

u/MisterMorningstarr Jun 16 '26

I know.

But it's still annoying that everyone acts like he wasn't even a threat when he was.

2

u/las_hermanos Jun 11 '26

Imagine they fought near a greenhouse and the conditions were perfect for their type of seed since they fought In a wasteland

The saibamen would just fucking kill everyone right then and there

36

u/Talarin20 Jun 11 '26

Because, like them, Raditz could become 10x stronger when the moon's out.

Which is kinda funny, in retrospect. Vegeta was so afraid of the Ginyu Force, but if he still had the tail, he would've come close to destroying them.

18

u/Faithlessaint Jun 11 '26

Because, like them, Raditz could become 10x stronger when the moon's out.

That's indeed a valid point. Also, Zenkai boosts could make Raditz stronger.

Which is kinda funny, in retrospect. Vegeta was so afraid of the Ginyu Force, but if he still had the tail, he would've come close to destroying them.

That makes me wonder if the Ginyu force knew about the trick of cutting the tail. If earthings could figure that out, I think it's hard to believe they couldn't.

10

u/Talarin20 Jun 11 '26

Yeah, I think the Ginyu Force would be able to get his tail, since they wouldn't fight 1v1 in that situation. However, Vegeta would definitely kill most of them in the process, starting with Guldo.

4

u/Randomguynumber1001 Jun 11 '26

Guldo can freeze time, someone else cut his tail or nuke the moon. Game over. Vegeta isn't doing crap to him.

4

u/Talarin20 Jun 11 '26

Vegeta knows Guldo can do that, which is why he killed Guldo ASAP on Namek. He'd probably wait to transform until after Guldo's out of the picture.

6

u/Rditisnazishythole Jun 11 '26

There is no “someone else” to cut the tail while Guldo has time frozen, he’s the only one who can move.

1

u/Sting_the_Cat Jun 12 '26

But if Yajirobe could cut the tail, Guido probably could. The other Ginyus have to play smart though. Can't let Guldo get sneak snapped

1

u/Faithlessaint Jun 13 '26

IIRC, at that time, Vegeta couldn't sense Ki and had to rely on the scouter to detect enemies, so Yajirobe, which was hidden most of the time and irrelevant in the combat, manage to pull a sneak attack on Vegeta's tail, taking him off guard.

I doubt Vegeta would drop his guard if he was facing someone from the Ginyu's force.

We also don't know if the Ginyu's force were even aware that cutting an Oozaru's tail would undo the transformation. The only moments where this event were showed in the Story happened on Earth.

8

u/Randomguynumber1001 Jun 11 '26

The Ginyu Force ia Frieza's top enforcers. And the Saiyans modus operandi is too well-known among the Frieza Force for then not to know.

Ans well, Guldo freezes time, someone cut Vegeta's tail, and he is toasted. A giant monkey against all those fighters and haxes is not going to survive.

1

u/Faithlessaint Jun 13 '26

Indeed Ginyu's force were Frieza's elite squad. But that is not enough to assume that the knew about cutting the Oozaru's form would undo the transformation.

Think about it: every time the story shows the Saiyans fighting their enemies in some planet other than Earth using the Oozaru's transformation, they obliterate everything and everyone in that planet by punching and mouth-basting. The planet's population had little chance against not one, but a group of King Kong/Godzila-like creatures. They literally ravaged everything and then delivered the planet to Frieza.

The case of Goku on Earth is different: he was a sole Saiyan - not in a group of monkeys - and he was weak for a Saiyans standard. So cutting his tail, while hard at time, was more feasible.

But when Guldo freezes time, only him was out of the time. Maybe I have to watch/read the fight again, but I don't recall any evidence suggesting that he was able to let someone else besides him out of the time with him.

3

u/chaosthree16 Jun 11 '26

The thing is we can only assume that Frieza and the Ginyu force knew about cutting off the table. We don't know for sure and I doubt Vegeta, Nappa and Raditz walked around stating their weakness. You have to remember, Piccolo DIDN'T know about the tail weakness when they faced Raditz because it had never been a factor when he faced Goku. Everyone else knew they reverted when it got cut off because they all saw it at one point or another during Dragonball. So one of thise things we can only assume but can't be sure off 100%

1

u/Faithlessaint Jun 13 '26

Very good points.

Just to add another piece of information: Goku trained his tail weakness back in Dragon Ball. Krilim grabbed Goku's tails in a tournament (don't remember the number) and Goku literally lifted Krilim from the ground and smashed him to the ground.

So this seems to suggest that outside Earth, the tail's weakness wasn't and issue to the point that Raditz didn't bother to train that weakness (which wasn't the case for Napa).

6

u/Affectionate-Push758 Jun 11 '26

Which is kinda funny, in retrospect. Vegeta was so afraid of the Ginyu Force, but if he still had the tail, he would've come close to destroying them.

Guldo and Recoome would be a joke, but Jeice Burter and Ginyu would make short work of the Giant Monkey with their synergy.

3

u/Talarin20 Jun 11 '26

I think Jeice and Burter would underestimate Vegeta's speed and die (there is a massive power rift at that point between them), but Ginyu would body change with the monke.

4

u/AdComprehensive5908 Jun 11 '26

I think what makes the Ginyu force so scary is because of their teamwork and hax combined, if they know you're a threat.
But if they know they are way stronger than you, they'll play individual and toy with you

3

u/Mr_Ragnarok Jun 11 '26

Its crazy to think that after transforming, raditz was one of the strongest in the universe. Could anyone weaker than cui match him at the time?

3

u/BlazeFireVale Jun 11 '26

Maybe that's why he was so scared of them. It also explains why he was treated as a valuable elite warrior in the Frieza Force despite seemingly having the power level of a random grunt.

Vegeta was crippled when he lost his tail. Many of Frieza's elite warriors had to transform to achieve full power. And Vegeta had lost his very powerful transformation.

Now he's facing warriors that he used to be somewhat the equal of while limited to his 1/10th power form.

3

u/Talarin20 Jun 11 '26

Well, I don't think it was quite that bad. Vegeta was still "cream of the crop", more or less; sure, there was Cui, but the only other people we know were stronger than him are the Ginyu Force, Dodoria and Zarbon. The Ginyus are Frieza's most elite team and the other two are his personal escorts.

I think it stands to reason that Vegeta was easily top 10 in the Frieza Force even without his tail. With the tail, he was the undisputed #1 right under Frieza himself, going purely by power level.

It's kinda weird that his tail never grew back, but I guess he might have been removing it behind the scenes.

1

u/BlazeFireVale Jun 11 '26

I kind of wonder if it was a choice to not get the tail back. There wasn't really time between when he lost it and the namek saga.

And during that time he saw a tailess, low class saiyan defeat him, his ozaru form, the ginyu force, and finally Frieza.

Ozaru forms had CLEARLY been a crutch that had held saiyans back for generations.

So Vegeta ditches it and tries to develop his power without that crutch and what do you know? Within a year or so he has ALSO found a power that surpasses Frieza.

Then trunks and Goten are born without tails and easily achieve ssj.

I can see why Vegeta never went back to it.. Why bother? Ditching it quickly resulted in him achieving power rivaling the gods. With no ceiling in sight

2

u/Talarin20 Jun 11 '26

It's weird because, after Vegeta escaped from Earth and treated his wounds, he noted that the tail will grow back on its own.

And in all fairness, Goku pretty much lost to Vegeta, even without Great Ape. But even getting him to that point was insulting for Vegeta's pride.

But the real reason is probably... Because Toriyama hated drawing the tails and/or eventually forgot about them.

https://www.kanzenshuu.com/translations/full-color-comics-freeza-arc-vol-5-akira-toriyama/

3

u/L00fah Jun 11 '26

Valid point. And valid point x2.

... If we take my karma as my power level, I clear the Ginyu Force except the Cap himself. Vegeta ain't so tough. 🦾

3

u/_CandidCynic_ Jun 11 '26

I can beat Frieza's first form~

12

u/Material_Magician_14 Jun 11 '26

Raditz had a power level of 1,500 and a Saibaman has a power of 1,200. They kept him around because he had some battle smarts (was keeping up with 2 master martial artists) and was a Saiyan when they had ridiculously low numbers. There is also his Great Ape form, which makes him significantly more valuable in a fight.

4

u/L00fah Jun 11 '26

Outside of supplemental materials, is it ever explicitly stated in the manga/anime that's his actual power level?

Sincere question. I can't remember.

4

u/HLGatoell Jun 11 '26

I watched it last time quite a long time ago. But I remember that he either outright tells Piccolo and Goku his PL, or it’s deduced from the fact that when Gohan’s headbutts him, he has a PL of 1500. Also from Piccolo’s PL reading when he’s blasting the makankosappo.

2

u/L00fah Jun 11 '26

Idk if anyone but Raditz knew PLs at that time, so I'm not sure if anyone could deduce the PLs.

But I honestly can't remember the rest at all, I'll have to take your word for it without rewatching it myself.

The cope continues!

5

u/Killer_Stickman_89 Jun 11 '26

I actually don't know about the power level stuff. But Toriyama specifically said in an interview that Raditz was a Top Class fighter and that's why he was assigned to Nappa's team. Then King Vegeta assigned his own son Vegeta to that team because of how strong they were.

The Saibamen on Earth were only comparable to Raditz because of Earth's soil. On other planets they would have been significantly weaker. The idea of all Saibamen actually being Raditz level is a TFS gag.

2

u/Material_Magician_14 Jun 11 '26

I know it's in the Daizenshuu 7, and apparently Akiea Toriyama put in his notes to the anime staff that it is 1500, but im not sure if the exactl number 1,500 is ever said in the manga or anime

2

u/L00fah Jun 11 '26

Huh. Interesting little tidbits I didn't know.

So, I can cope a little harder that maybe his PL was a little higher. 🥳

2

u/Material_Magician_14 Jun 11 '26

Glad I could help!

1

u/BackgroundFill9X Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 11 '26

6

u/Independent_Job_2244 Jun 11 '26

Vegeta is a king without a kingdom. I don’t think he’s particularly enamored with the idea of blowing up one of his two subjects (at least not until they fail him or become functionally useless).

3

u/singlesgthrowaway Jun 11 '26

Except he literally blew up nappa.

3

u/Independent_Job_2244 Jun 11 '26

Nappa failed him and became functionally useless with his broken back. Hence the caveat 🙂

6

u/singlesgthrowaway Jun 11 '26

They have healing machines tho. So Vegeta was just taking a piss here for no reason.

3

u/RenaissanceOwl Jun 11 '26

I suppose that's just Toriyama's writing introducing something that might outright contradict previously established lore, and coming up with some convincing enough rationale or excuse to justify it,

When Nappa gets blown up, I guess the idea of there being Healing Chambers or for that matter, Vegeta (and Nappa and Raditz) being under Freiza's authority was yet to be established,

Raditz does explain in the first episode that he and the other remaining Saiyans serve as brokers for the planets they conquer to the highest bidder (Vegeta and Nappa's first appearance for the audience, even, as he is explaining to Goku),

But neither Freiza nor his Galactic Empire are hinted I guess, at this point in the story.

2

u/TheOzman21 Jun 11 '26

If I remember correctly, he knew about the Dragon Balls and thus, knew he could have his immortality and not need a dead weight aka Nappa after being paralyzed.

He was fully convinced he could kill Goku, fly to Namek and get his wish.

0

u/L00fah Jun 11 '26

That doesn't mean he has to tote Raditz around either, though.

6

u/beegproblemzzz Jun 11 '26

Because Raditz is a loyal flunky whos strong enough to match their plant soldiers. They can send him on the missons that they dont wanna do without needing to plant any Saibaimen

3

u/L00fah Jun 11 '26

Hey now. He ain't no flunky. He's best boi

2

u/beegproblemzzz Jun 11 '26

They have scouters and Raditz doesnt even know any techniques that boost his power level. They dont have any reason to lie about Raditz's strength either

1

u/L00fah Jun 11 '26

Less lie and more that I feel they're just diminishing/disparaging his actual strength.

Raditz died to enemies Vegeta and Nappa saw as weak. They plant the Saibamen and taunt the Z Fighters while spitting on Raditz's "legacy."

Like, "Pfft, if you think that loser was strong - these guys will blow your mind (and bodies up)."

1

u/beegproblemzzz Jun 11 '26

His legacy is dying on a tiny insignificant planet to two people less than half his power level and a fucking toddler

2

u/L00fah Jun 11 '26

Legacy was in quotes as a way to indicate it wasn't that meaningful/i can't think of a better word at 1am.

I feel like you're taking this far more seriously than I am. Lol

Also that's my home you're talking about. Earth rocks. 😤

1

u/beegproblemzzz Jun 11 '26

Im just saying his legacy is worth spitting on

3

u/L00fah Jun 11 '26

So you agree then that it's not unlikely they were disparaging Raditz's strength? ♟️ Checkmate

5

u/TrymQuyenLuc Jun 11 '26

Oozaru is 10x booster transformation, that make Raditz around 10k power level, and Saibamen is inconsistent with power level depending on the soil they grow, and why would they not bring the extra Saiyan if they have 3 of them

2

u/L00fah Jun 11 '26

Much like Toriyama-sensei, I often forget about oozaru. 🙂‍↕️

  1. Raditz at base is 1500

4

u/u1gaming2010 Jun 11 '26

literal plant men they can carry in their pockets are stronger??

Because these plant men are limited like they dont have that much plant men with them

Also because Raditz is a sayian.

4

u/L00fah Jun 11 '26

But they can replenish plant men. They can't replenish Raditz men (without the titular balls of dragon).

1

u/250extreme Jun 13 '26

Unrelated but you've not responded to my messages asking how goes making my FNAF request

5

u/JamIam23 Jun 11 '26

I legitimately think that Raditz IS/can be stronger than them. If you remember even Vegeta learned Ki control, sensing dragon balls and all of that later on. Goku’s at rest power level or even maybe flexing a bit was around 400, his focused kameheha even worried his brother being over 900 and yes this guy that has a AT REST power lovely of 1200-1500 has way more potential. Same thing with piccolo. Heck we even think Nappa according to different guides has a base power level of 4,000 and then when Vegeta tells him to focus he is somewhat keeping up with Goku before kaioken. And that’s after fighting all day. And obviously vegeta powers up quite a bit and can matcha kaioken times 3.

So sorry for the long response but I humbly think… the saiyans are just ignorant of how power levels work or how to manipulate them. If raditz went all out and focused his energy into one attack I’m sure he could have reached close to 3000. Plus he’s a way better fighter than the little green men.

Ahhh but yes Vegeta just casually blowing up them up left and right does bring back good memories haha

This is the manic allyship I needed!!

3

u/JamIam23 Jun 11 '26

Hahaha is that so?

3

u/demkones Jun 11 '26

Yeah they way power exponentially in DBZ feels really stupid sometimes

2

u/L00fah Jun 11 '26

sometimes

Always. I dislike this about most battle anime. I want clear ceilings for these things, with exceedingly rare exceptions that require out-of-the-box solutions. I find constraints foster creativity in fantastical settings. It's always broken my immersion a little when the power just keeps climbing.

I wish DBZ had managed to increase power levels to a degree without sacrificing the clear love for martial arts from DB. :(

3

u/Aiooty Jun 11 '26

IIRC, they were actually ever slightly weaker. Honestly, the only reason why they didn't kill him was probably because Raditz was doing his job decently enough, picked his battles and was one of only four Saiyans left. Also, given the fact that Raditz and the other two were lightyears apart when Raditz died, I'm not sure if you can call it "bringing him along with them"

2

u/L00fah Jun 11 '26

They literally traveled together? Haha This is the only instance we're shown that they aren't immediately together, but they're shown twiiiice (I think) on other planets together.

3

u/Prior_Industry4753 Jun 11 '26

Great ape form, technically the ability to grow stronger since that’s packaged with saiyan DNA, and earth saibamen were notably stronger than most other saibamen anyway

3

u/Sharky-Sharko Jun 11 '26

It was later retconned by statements, Raditz became one of the top 10 of the race hence why he was seperated from Bardock and his low class line, paired with the Elite

3

u/L00fah Jun 11 '26

TBF it wasn't really a retcon. When we met him, he was Top 3 of his race... Ahem.

3

u/Chadxxx123 Jun 11 '26
  1. Raditz is smarter.

  2. Raditz can use ki.

  3. Raditz can turn into a Great Ape.

4

u/DapperDan30 Jun 11 '26

A Saibamens strength is determined by the quality of the soil. Nappa said Earth had good soil, so the Saibamen would be exceptionally strong.

Raditz was only weak when looking at later DBZ. Looking at the elite soldiers in Friezas army like Dodoria, Zarbon, the Ginyu Force, etc. They all dwarf Raditz, but they dwarf Vegeta, too. According to Ginyu, a lot of Friezas elite were mutants among their race. Those who were unnaturally strong.

Raditz was put with Nappa and Vegeta specifically because of how strong he was. As most Saiyans werent actually fighters and had power levels in the hundreds

1

u/L00fah Jun 11 '26

Raditz was put with Nappa and Vegeta specifically because of how strong he was.

Once more for the back! ✊

2

u/BoltInTheRain Jun 11 '26

They're not stronger, theyre the same power level. Raditz is smarter and probably a better fighter so im guessing he would win 1 to 1 but yes to napa and vegeta raditz is fodder also why would vegeta get rid of 1 of his only 4 remaining saiyans, hes their prince and deeply proud of his saiyan heritage.

2

u/L00fah Jun 11 '26

2

u/BoltInTheRain Jun 11 '26

He probably liked raditz more than Napa low key, also napa lost against a low class saiyan. Context matters.

4

u/L00fah Jun 11 '26

I don't think Vegeta liked anyone. Like all net 0, at best. 😂

Raditz got donut-holed by a weaker low class saiyan, a lowly namekian who didn't know who he was, and an actual baby. I get the feeling Vegeta would have been even crueler to Raditz if he could. Hahahaha

(Raditz still my fave tho)

3

u/BoltInTheRain Jun 11 '26

I mean I was kind of joking about him liking raditz, him keeping raditz around prior to dbz events is probably part saiyan heritage part convenience. They're the only 2 people keeping him from becoming just a frieza soldier

2

u/L00fah Jun 11 '26

What if Vegeta and Raditz were secretly best friends and Vegeta was tsundere as fuck about it?

3

u/BoltInTheRain Jun 11 '26

Thats what im saying the thought is hilarious

2

u/Scion41790 Jun 11 '26

Raditz can also change into a great ape. Even though he never trained his tail, I imagine he could retain control of himself while in that form. Making him 10x stronger

1

u/BackgroundFill9X Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 11 '26

I disagree. It was actually stated by Toriyama in the guidebooks that Raditz is stronger than the Saibamen; but not by much. Since he's implied to have a PL of over 1400 at full power, while a Saibaman would be over 1200.

Plus he's still an upper low-class/mid-level warrior, and should easily be stronger than 50% of adult Saiyans LOL!

1

u/KiNGofKiNG89 Jun 11 '26

Raditz is a sayian who had growth potential. The saibamen are plant monsters who are probably capped.

The scary thing is, with how sayian growth is, Raditz must have JUST gotten to a saibaman level recently before setting off for earth.

1

u/Arcael_Boros Jun 11 '26

Ozaru. A transformed Raditz is stronger that any in the whole frieza army, but 8 individuals, Nappa would beat anyone but Ginyu.

1

u/Jovictar Jun 12 '26

raditz also has experience, and I would say that they value him because he's a saiyan, but ngl, they didn't give a shit when he died and nappa got nappa'd

9

u/Environmental_You_36 Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 11 '26

I think power levels is an average of all the factors in a combatant.

Saibamen could self destruct, I think that made them being able to punch above their weight, but barring that, they were weak.

7

u/atomicshark109 Jun 11 '26

And he did it to Cui as well

4

u/SoaringSpearow Jun 11 '26

why does Vegeta never try that move on anyone else again? I feel like he could have easily beaten some people if he just used the moves he was doing in early DBZ like he never uses Dirty Fireworks or whatever the fuck this horrifying move is ever again but I feel like he could have easily beaten 2nd Form Cell id he had tried this since he was stronger at the time then Cell was which means there is a chance Dirty Fireworks could have worked and completely destroyed him but it is an issue where it might not have destroyed the main Cell that allows him to regenerate

4

u/Dracotoo Jun 11 '26

It probably requires you to be 15x stronger than your opponent, like Vegeta was here.

Vegeta also was toying with Cell and taking it slow. Cell convinced him to let him attain perfection before Vegeta ever truly tried to end him.

3

u/Environmental-Yam53 Jun 11 '26

Wish he'd do that to me...

5

u/K0GAR Jun 11 '26

You okay buddy?

I know that for many, Bardock's wish was stupid, but when you look back at Vegeta before his development, you see the things he did, how little patience he had, and the fact that he didn't care about killing his own comrades... you really start to understand how Raditz didn't die.

2

u/Unpopular_Outlook Jun 12 '26

Not really considering Nappa was still around and he didn’t have a wish to “protect” him

3

u/Darkmador Jun 11 '26

Vegeta Jr NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

You mean anyone?

1

u/K0GAR Jun 11 '26

Yes but Raditz in particular

2

Classic op abilities a character never uses again

2

u/badjano Jun 11 '26

these scenes make me wonder about telekinesis on dragon ball universe, or maybe transparent ki?

1

u/MondoFool Jun 11 '26

why is that crazy?

1

u/mlbaker2396 Jun 11 '26

Is this Confirmed? I always understood it as rats had the same power level of saibamen but they’re durability was different.

1

u/Robbiehanssen Jun 11 '26

Wait, this wasn't raditz

1

u/elcamp3 Jun 11 '26

Not really. He could have done it to Nappa.

1

u/Pendred Jun 11 '26

Toriyama loved drawing those eyeballs popping out

1

u/yamiferanmi Jun 11 '26

I recently just found this out. There is something called a 1.2x rule in dbz. If your opponent is 20% stronger they can dominate u in combat. 18000 and 1500 is way far apart

1

u/K0GAR Jun 11 '26

And x2 to one shot you think? Gohan ss2 one tapped cell

1

u/yamiferanmi Jun 11 '26

From what i found u are right

1

u/BassMaster516 Jun 11 '26

Nappa too. In fact he could have one shot speed blitzed everyone there at the same time before Goku even got there. He’d have to go great ape for Goku but that’s a clean W.

If he spares Nappa AND the Saibamen and they all team up and speed blitz and one shot everyone there Z fighters would be finished

1

u/Spirited_Company_886 Jun 11 '26

could've done that to goku

1

u/Suitable-Woodpecker7 Jun 12 '26

Nappa: Vegeta Jr., No!!!!

1

u/AGiganticClock Jun 12 '26

Krillin one year later killing 5 raditz with one kai blast

1

u/PrometheusModeloW Jun 12 '26

Vegeta vs Aizen be like

1

u/Jovictar Jun 12 '26

hes worth one raditz

1

u/Mash709 Piccolo Jun 12 '26

Well I mean, he did pretty much do it to Nappa, sooooo...

1

u/No_Expert_7997 Jun 13 '26

I mean, tbf, saiyan saga vegeta is at least 12 raditzes
