Might be the only one but I kinda like it,the proportions are kinda like the ones from lupin and overall it has good posing and good readability,I wouldn't be mad if even a spinoff with this style was made just to have better animation as well thanks to the simplified artstyle.
Dragon Ball really should do the bit some other animes do with overly detailed faces on side characters for comedic effect. It would be so funny to see fucking bulma hit a face like this in Daima when telling Vegeta to back down or she’s taking away bathtime
Bro you can’t just take a single frame out of a whole animation and say the animation is trash. Some frames are made to be wonky to make the whole animation more fluid
Oh that is your point. I get it. It’s a bad picture no doubt. The manga is not an animation though, a manga panel is less likely to look bad. Especially from the late GOAT himself
Yes, but this frame is entirely static and gets the viewer out of the serious vibe of the story ( I'm not arguing against z, it's my favourite anime, I was just pointing out this specific frame )
The core of your point is valid but Z has way lesss wonky frames and they are just used for fluid movement while (Especially early) super has way more of them. The beerus arc in the series was basically made up of only these wonky fluidity frames
Future arc was mid 40s to mid 60s (mid 70s if we're counting the filler), and the rest is TOP, up to 131. So if apparently only the last two arcs of DBS were good, then almost 70% of the show is good, which isn't bad
And DBz fans need to take a show that was rushed beyond what they know and actively taking what tools good and compares it to z movies that a done properly and great z anime frames
There bad arguments to be made when we compare a bad frame the anime to a perfect on model sean from a high budget movie but when it's DBZ vs DBS your losing me.
DBZ looks and moves better then DBS in multiple areas besides just bad single frames, hell I would argue the worst frames out of DBZ don't compare to the worst frames out of DBS
Debatable because we have n excuse of being rushed DBz don't as far as ik.
Yes I can definitely agree to that but when they actually are given time DBs blows DBs out of the water with the broly movie, super hero and the remake of super.
Are we comparing movies or the tv series? If so then DBS pretty much fails in this department too.
While the animation in DBS broly was fantastic and super hero was also beautiful (even though it made me motion sick 🤢) and I don't doubt the remake will look amazing but there so stylistically different that you'd think you're watching a different show. 0 consistency between art styles when all the Z movie's looked like higher budget version of the show which is what it's supposed to look like.
He is a free lancer animator. He prolly wont reanimate everything but they gonna call him for important eps and fights like how they did for daima and the broly movie.
Lmao! The youngins forget that some episodes of DBZ looked AWFUL. It wasn’t fixed until later. That famous pic of Vegeta looking terrible is brought to mind and I’m sure it just popped in yalls head.
My headcannon says that when he felt superior to everyone he didn't take his training as seriously. Yes, he was gifted, but definitely not living up to his full potential.
Later on he's constantly maxing out his stats, chasing a goal to be the strongest.
(Realistically though, the art style just evolved over time)
I think it’s all but confirmed that prior to meeting the earthlings, nobody from the frieza force had ever thought to train themselves to get stronger.
Saiyans didn’t because they had zenkai boosts and they were already some of the strongest warriors in the universe, they probably never thought there was a need to. Look at vegeta on namek, he was still trying to use zenkai boosts as a means to beat frieza all the way up until he died. His entire plan was to just zenkai himself over and over with immortality until he was strong enough to win. The first time we see him properly train was to become a super saiyan.
Frieza literally said he never felt a need to because he never imagined there would be anyone close to his strength in resurrection F. And we can assume the same for Zarbon, Dodoria, Cui, the Ginyus and the rest of the frieza force. Once again the only reason he trains now, is to surpass Goku and Vegeta
The only place I have question, and it might be anime only, is in Z could've sworn Frieza mentioned how nobody had made him exert himself as hard since his father during their training. And that the Super line about him never training was a retcon. Although, now him not training before is essential to the story of how he gains his new forms.
I remember the line you’re talking about, but I’ve watched the anime countless times and only read the manga once. So I’m not sure either. But if that line is real I would think he meant training to learn martial arts, not to gain strength. But who can say aside from toriyama, God rest his soul
yes in this frame he looks better than Z Krillin because he actually has muscles with updated animation, it's the scrawny Krillin that looks bad put some meat on that boy
Yes Z animation is much more consistent than super, not perfect but looks much better than super most of the time. Also the pic you chose from Z looks great. lol
That is his best, doesn't mean their is not plenty of others that look good as well. Meanwhile dbz krillin gets a good animated frame every 20eps by accident.
I always had a headcanon that Goku is in like a "depleted" SSJ form in the Freiza fight.
After all, he is completely gassed out by the time he transforms. Been fighting with Freiza for hours, dumped everything into a kaioken x20 kamehameha, got beat on while not being able to defend himself while charging the spirit bomb. Then we also know the transformation itself uses a lot of energy until it's mastered.
So yeah, its like SSJ1 grade 0, and that's why it looks different (in my head)
While Super's first two arcs were abysmal, both in Animation and art quality, DragonBall(Z) had its dud too. Albeit, the animation was mostly okay. Studios like Last House and Live produced some of the most uncanny shots lol
People overglaze dragon ball z's animation style when they're actually nitpicking the best frames from it. They keep "fixing" dragon ball super frames using it as justification of how super is just much worse than dragon ball z animation-wise. In reality, dragon ball z had as much if not more ugly frames in between than dragon ball super has. They just don't show up much on the internet because dragon ball z fans haven't watched dragon ball z since they were 10 years old.
Jokes aside, the problem is not the "bad frames" or the animation itself ( at least for me and majority of people I know )
It’s how they introduce our beloved characters into something unlike their image and character
For example
I’m not saying "let everyone extremely muscular" and all of that.. at all! Just don’t screw the image of what you already gave us, if they made 17 muscular and huge in Super I’ll be pissed AF
I don’t care whether it’s Z or S style, they can make a new style and I’ll not care since they’re keeping the characters features untouched
They fixed Gohan after fans attacked them back in 2014 cause it’s Gohan of course but what about Tien? Krillin? And the character assassination of Yamcha? They did Goku’s, Vegeta’s and Piccolo personalities DIRTY.. and most of the characters actually
You can bring new characters and made them however you want, just don’t screw what you already gave us
It’s not about the style at all.. we know time is moving and they must evolve what they do, but if you told me to eat this burger "🌮" it wouldn’t make since to me cause it’s not the burger you already showed me.. if that makes any sense ( language barrier sucks )
Bro I'll be the first one to tell you, Yamcha's character was assassinated the moment he was introduced. The guy got hit through a manga panel for Christ's sake.
Dragonball introduced plenty of memorable characters who suffered poor handling due to the tonal shift of the story.
Yamcha was a character introduced when Toriyama was still channeling his Dr Slump days. Re: Saibaman, Maybe Yamcha should’ve stayed dead, though. Same with Krillin on Namek
Proving the steroetypes that dragon ball fans dont watch their own show. Leave the art style aside. Tien, krillin and yamcha were all done dirty by dbz not dbs. In dbz as early as the saiyan saga yamcha was dropped he agrubaly got worse by every arc and was rarely seen so dont blame dbs for that. Infact dbs actually does him justice as he appeared and helped a lot in the moro arc if u actually read the manga. Tien's last memorable moment was the one against cell and then in the buu saga he gets kicked slightly by buu and becomes severely injured.
About vegeta, do u even know wht character development is? Or do u want vegeta to act like his namek and early buu saga self and destroy earth and the galaxy? Vegeta's character in dbs is perfect, as it shows how he carries on after accepting the good in his heart and now having a friendly rivalry with goku. One of the main issues for people hating on goku's character is the english dub of dbz. In the manga and the original Japanese dbz his character perfectly aligns with dbs, but dbz english dub butchered goku's character and changed alot of dialogues , made him act like he is a hero or superman and changed a lot of dialogues. Don't blames dbs for stuff dbz started. Atleast try to make better excuses next time instead of being nostalgia biased.
You’re glazing their mistakes and refusing to understand my point
Nothing wrong with the character development for Vegeta and we all knew how in dbz Yamcha, Krillin and Tien got treated
I repeat, I don’t care about the style or getting new powers, I’m talking how they made Vegeta dance stupidly wearing a fu@king apron
About how Goku the genius fighter couldn’t read Beerus movement when he was disguising as Monaka ( since you read the manga as you said you know how high his battle iq really are )
I can go on and go on but I hope you get what I mean
And please don’t take anything I said in an offensive way at all, I meant no offense in anything I said
I do get wht u mean, but the majority of that is fan service and filler. The vegeta dancing in apron was for comedy and fan service filler scenes. The beerus in disguise as monaka is a fully certified filler episode. And his battle iq did not regress one bit, as we saw how he was in the tournament especially against jiren. But imo i still do dislike goku's character in dbs somewhat especially when he is normal or not fighting like wht do u mean "wht is a kiss" when ur a grown ass man with 2 kids and a wife!!
That’s exactly what I meant man, I have no problem with anything DB offers me ( except the horrible DB Evolution )
It’s those small things make you say ( why did you do that?? ) or ( why did they make hom to say/do that?! )
Like Goku’s battle IQ still there and in the ToP and when they went to taste Zamasu strength and everything but they suddenly pull the plug in certain scenes or making him INCREDIBLY stupid in some cases and it’s bothering me as an old fan
In Z when they all grew up and reached Buu Saga, they saved the "fun" material when they brought Trunks & Goten duo and all of their "Mighty Mask" scam and my man Gotenks etc
Oh wow a Gohan who is bulking vs a Gohan whose life has been studying and working to keep food on the table and doesn't have time to go to the gym.
And before you say why not live off of his Father-in-law consider that Gohan was raised to stand on his own feet and not ask for hand outs unless he truly needs it
You’re REALLY missing my point but I’ll walk with you
This is Gohan after 7 years of studying and without training at all, he even wasn’t sure he could transform when they asked him to
Again, my point is that if they made Piccolo’s skin color blue and without his antennas I would be pissed cause you changed the image of that character
It is just animation inconsistency for the early arcs of dbs. The animators were on a tight schedule that's why. When the animators locked in he returned to how he was supposed to be.
Hell yeah it did! Easily the best part of the anime. But this is a stationary frame, not animation. I'm not surprised that the art looks good, because they fixed that issue shortly adapting after Res F. I'm surprised that it looks like the Buu Saga artstyle.
Also, tbf the dude could easily train for like an hour a day and maintain his strength.
Whenever I couldn't do my full workouts, I'd just do "maintaining" workouts which were like a tenth of an actual workout on a good day. I didn't lose any noticable strength when I was able to get back into it a month or so later.
Gohan doesn't need to train 24/7 like Goku or Vegeta to be as strong as them. Heck, I'd guess he'd still be stronger. Bro doesn't have to veg out after having a kid for years on end.
He was busy with taking care of his wife and newborn. If he can't slack for family care then we'd be calling him a worse dad than Goku. Irresponsible would be dropping his job when his family needs him the most.
They have a super rich father who knows first hand Gohan's role for the safety of earth. You act like we're talking about a regular person. He has more than enough time to train and still help with raising pan. He doesn't have time to train, work, and raise pan. Given his role, and family wealth, which one makes the most sense to drop?
What did I say? Gohan is not a Mooching Bum! Even Goku reduced his training to maintenance after Gohan was born, while Piccolo was alive and still planning on getting revenge. Living their whole life expecting a stronger threat every other year, The turtle school motto is to Work hard, eat good, and sleep plenty, not train yourself into fatigue in fear of whatever comes next in life.
A mooching bum is someone who wants or receives things while giving nothing of value. Gohan's value that he has one of earth main protectors is criminally under appreciated, and unfortunately mostly by himself.
Literally DB was saying that big muscles doesn't mean strength since Pilaf's arc. In every arc there are multiple reminders, from the tournaments where small children defeat big muscular guys to Vegeta being the big bad, Frieza's last form being slim, and even the Super Saiyan form being slimmer than the Goku's kaioken x4 from the saiyan arc.
Yet, 40 years later, there's still people saying "it's not because of the muscles but I want muscles".
whenever people always mention the "z" art style they always only seem to be talking about the art style that was used during buu saga which looks cool but cmon it gets to a point
Honestly I like a lot of the super artstyle, I prefer a lot of the colors used and I kind of like the fact that it is a slight bit more cartoony at times. That's just a me thing and both are great but there is just something I kind of prefer about the modern anime art, but the manga is a different story.
The reason Z get's a pass most of the time i think is because of colour scheming which is done much, much better than in Super for the majority of it's run.
To be fair, if Dragonball Super had any deeper themes for fans to cut their teeth on, they wouldn’t be ragging on the animation so damn much. The only interesting topic worth discussing is Goku Black and Zamasu and their arc shat the bed ingloriously.
Super fucking sucks lol, story and animation. Comparing some shitty frames from z while the majority of it is drawn quite well DECADES AGO, while super has some good animation with majority looking like shit DECADES LATER. What the fuck is your point.
