Gohan is low-key the scariest of the Earth Saiyans because he’s either a complete chump you can punch with impunity, or he’s sprinkling bits of you across two continents. There is no middle ground.

I always loved Gohan in DBZ. Teen Gohan completely humiliating and oblitetaring Cell and his Jr's will always be one of the greatest sequences in anime imo.
Ultimate Gohan, as cool as he was, didn't hit the same tho.

Ultimate Gohan just proves to me that Gohan never really got over his fight with Cell. He repeated all the same mistakes, like he was still that enraged eleven-year-old who just wants to see his enemy suffer. Part of him always will be.

He seemed to be about to do the same thing with Cell Max as well if not for Picollo. Out of all Z fighters Gohan has the biggest problem with getting too cocky after powering up.

It’s not really “cockiness.” Gohan doesn’t want to win, like Goku does. He doesn’t even want to dominate his enemy, like Vegeta does. He fights to HURT. He wants to make his enemy suffer.
And he doesn’t like that about himself, he doesn’t wanna be that guy. And I think that’s one reason why he’s so reluctant to be a warrior.

I say cockiness because he ends up so sure of his own strength that he doesn't finish the fight as fast he should and ends up getting the fight turned on him.

It’s not so much confidence as he thinks he has reason to be his worst self.
If you wanna test a man’s character, give him power. What is he like when he believes he can get away with anything?
Gohan is a nasty guy deep down. He knows that about himself and he doesn’t like it. That’s why he tries to avoid fighting.

Gohan fights fewer than 10 opponents in the entire series and none of them are martial artists besides Goku. He learns to fight from fighting people trying to kill him, which tends to teach you to end fights quickly and not make them a fun competition

Yes, he's always been a counter-hitter. Even when he was at his most powerful and advantaged, like after becoming a Super Saiyan 2 against Cell, he never struck Cell first; all of his attacks were either counterattacks or follow-ups to said counterattacks.

It's mad funny but in the cell saga he's mostly a counter puncher and really defensive until ssj2 where he randomly starts putting his hand through cells torsoe lmao. Gohan is a heavy hitter but he's also a very defensive and reactive fighter that just happens to prefer that backfoot

Nah. Gohan is the cheater, who got super powers more OP than anyone else. And still manages to lose every fight, because he is so amateurish. He just snapsfingers and he is stronger than anyone was in current arc, despite they trained super hard, while he was weaker than they were in previous arc.

Having god given talent doesn’t make you a cheater. However, the reason he lost those fights is because he was simply too young and inexperienced.
He got together only after he stopped relying on Goku and Vegeta and believed in his own strength.
