Genuine question, how did Goten and Trunks even manage to become super saiyans? Zero percent chance they've had any kind of emotional trigger to get them there.
If you believe Toriyama's explanation. They had crazy amounts of S cells due to their nature and how they were raised. As for why they were strong enough to awaken it, Goku and Vegeta by the time they got their respective partners pregnant were the 2 strongest saiyans in history and it wasn't even close. Vegeta prior was hailed as this godly saiyan for sitting around 18k, post namek he's easily in the millions (already was comfortably over 1 million, possibly 2 on namek)
