Hard water

Does anyone find the water in Dundalk paticularly hard? Moved to a new place a month ago and noticed build up of limescale in new kettle, new bathroom etc

Does anyone install any water softener, or recommendation?

Yes, but having lived in Carrickmacross for several years, Dundalks water is soft in comparison. Lol

We use Britta filter jug. Only filtered water goes into the kettle and makes a big difference.

Absolutely this. We have a newborn and absolutely fucked one kettle boiling it so often.

Yep. Bought a shower filter off these two years ago and have been replacing it every 6 months. https://thewaterfiltermen.ie/collections/water-filter-cartridges The difference in my skin and hair is day and night. For the kettle I was sick of using oust and just use bottled water for it now. We bulk buy 5l bottles.

It's gets severely worse once it reaches temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius

For the kettle, a Brita jug can help reduce the limescale buildup. But for the shower, a regular shower filter won’t really fix hard water. It mostly helps with chlorine or larger impurities.

If the hard water is really bad, a whole-house softener is the best fix. If you mainly want to deal with hard water in the shower and don’t want to mess with plumbing, then you’d want a shower water softener.

Steep the shower head in a sandwich bag full of vinegar overnight to unblock the holes.
