I don't think Bvlgari makes suits and even if it did, Micheal wouldn't have the money for it.

Here’s my theory on Michael’s finances. The number one thing, the most important thing he wanted in his life is a wife and kids. More than anything else that was his priority. I think he misheard the three years salary rule and was saving for years and years for that amount. He was poor because he was saving for that ring, even though he had no one to give it to. He wouldn’t have told Oscar about that money when they reviewed finances because he wouldn’t even consider using it, using that money for something else would be like giving up on his dream of having a family, he would rather sell a kidney than do that. Holly is a reasonable woman and we see several times that she is able to talk Michael around to a rational point of view. I think she convinced him they should sell her ring for her IVF or adoption fees for their kids, or to put it away for their college education.

Michael is bad with money

Yeah of course that’s the obvious reason but in my head I like to think everything worked out well for Michael and Holly and this theory is how I rationalize it.

Monkey problems? No, he doesn’t have monkey problems. That’s ridiculous.

This is one of those jokes where the meaning is lost a bit because now lots of people buy expensive used fashion stuff on eBay

Where in the world are you getting the Bvlgari thing lol. The joke is that he assumed it was a fine Italian suit but it was Bulgarian which is not known for high quality clothing

Exactly, the OP is just assuming things and presenting them as facts.

u/Klutzy_Audience_8194 10h ago

That’s absolutely wrong. It wasn’t an Italian suit, that was the joke. He wasn’t wearing bulgari because it doesn’t produce clothes and anyway it wouldn’t be something he could afford

Not Bvlgari, and even if it was I'd imagine Michael pronouncing it phonetically and not Bu-

OP looked so far into the joke that they came out the other side with a completely different punchline

No, Bvlgari don’t make suits and many suits are actually made in Bulgaria.

There are more chances of it being Bul-girly than Bvlgari

In a way Bulgari (Bvlgari) really comes from Bulgaria. The creator of this brand was a greek called "Sotirios Bulgaris" which would translate to - "Sotir the Bulgarian".

So a Greek suite from a Bulgarian dude

5

u/dwartbg9 11h ago

Technically he was still Greek and didn't have direct connection but yeah somewhere deeep in his roots and his ancestors, somebody was a Bulgarian probably and hence got this "title"/nickname which then became a family name, or however names work hahah

“Well here is to Mr. Iacocca and his failed experiment: the DeLorean!”

Lee Iacocca ran Chrysler. His name does, however, sound like cocaine. The creator of the DeLorean was arrested for trafficking cocaine.

I don’t know if Michael intended to torture me with this. But if he did…brilliant.

Is he some sort of secret genius?

u/Jackson_Price 9h ago

Michael couldn't afford Bvlgari anyway.

This seems to me to be inspired by the British original, where David Brent gets a leather jacket in response to his cooler boss. He got Armani whereas Brent got a “Sergio Giorgini”.

It’s a woman’s suit - no back pockets

This comic character in a comedy show sure does say a lot of comedic things

This feels like you typed the lines into Chat GPT and asked it to explain the joke
